I think it’s more like an evolution of the tactics. I don’t think Klopp will change it wholesale…he will just tweak it to be more varied, more flexible and improved…
I don’t get Sky. Yes when you see it and I was agreeing with the essence of your post completely (just not good at expressing things I guess and still a bit wound up).
The thing is is those 2 deep pivots and we get caught out by Chelsea ever time we play them. If you commit to pressing them you leave yourselves exposed unless your 3 attackers have closed off the passing lanes to the flanks (which they invariable haven’t as they have been pressing the defenders). Chelsea have been setting up like that against us for years now despite who is manager.
I do agree that it does matter in regards to what you are pointing out.
It doesn’t matter in regards to what sums up the game, which is what I got from the post.
What sums up the game in my opinion is far more the three things I meantion than the list of things you posted. The list of things you posted is important and I agree they exist and matter, but I think they are the side effects of the things I listed.
This is not if, but when. Firmino is central to our current football style. However, he has been crap for over a year and worse, he is approaching 30.
Finding a good traditional No.9 player without blinking your eyes is easy. Finding a Firmino replacement, however, is a tall order, if not extremely difficult.
Yes, totally agree with the double pivot press there.
Though I do find that the manager did make a difference after all. I saw not only a complete different Liverpool compared to the 1st game of the season, but a completely different Chelsea as well. We seemed to have Lampard’s number for some reason…Tuchel has set up this team quite well immediately (only conceded twice in ten games, is unbeaten in the last ten league games, and you can see they are applying everything well). So they were much more effective.
I feel we just scored more goals than them in the past and Hendo made such a big difference being astute enough to cover 3 opposition players at a time, even if Milner tries we have noone else like that. So really need a tactical rething if Hendo isn’t available.
Hendo definitely a big miss for the pressing, but attitude was different. Surely you can find that sky bit on youtube if you care for a quick search, I think it’s interesting to watch. But anyway.
It was their first clean sheet against us in the league these past 3 seasons and that speaks volumes about our current situation in attack. On the other hand we kept 2 clean sheets in the last 6 league games against them, so having conceded shouldn’t have mattered much if our pressing and attack was functioning, it should still be good enough to secure at least a draw when conceding only 1.
For the record, these past three seasons’ results vs Chelsea:
2018-19: Away draw 1-1, Home win 2-0
2019-20: Away win 2-1, Home win 5-3
2020-21: Away win 2-0, Home loss 1-0
Our only loss against Chelsea these three seasons comes in their only game they managed to prevent us from scoring (actually shooting to be precise).
The solution to our problems is our attack. The question is how do we get them on fire again?
found Soccer Gossip with Micheal owen some big plonker and a soft as shit presenter, they criticised TAA a lot again without pointing out how diabolically poor Thiago was.
I really don’t like how TAA is being used at the moment (coming in as a central defnder to cover) some of that role should be taken up by a DM (as it was before our crisis). It’s just asking too much of Trent and isn’t a strong point in his game.
Here’s what I found: micheal Owen actually makes some good points about our attack but the defensive analysis of this team is complete shit:

N.B My feed of this was very choppy I wonder if I have to sign up to Youtube (so much to gripe about these days).
As I said something not right, they’ve gone soft, lost all fight for eachother.
Even Robbo lets his head drop, unthinkable 6 months ago.
On our pressing, what IS the point of pressing behind the player with the ball?
Just watch Firmino and Gini, rediculous no?
We have pressed them in the past pretty well, but that was when we had all our players available and were a well oiled machine + 2 quick centre backs that could cope with the long ball bettererererer
Massive extenuating circumstances as to why we have been rubbish for a while. However, it is absolutely fair game to say that we haven’t done as well as we should, even in spite of circumstances.
For that, the manager and the players are rightly criticized.
We can’t overreact as we are a good team. Wholesale change is not needed, but some change is needed, as well as obviously getting our big players fit and back and playing.
Time is running out but I haven’t given up on top four yet. And strangely, the CL provides some sort of respite from the rough and tumble of the Prem, and its shite officiating. I’m not even close to suggesting we will win the CL, as we have slipped so far this season, but that appears to the the competition that gives us some joy at the moment.
I back Klopp 100% to sort this out. Get through the season, see what it brings, refresh the group in summer as much as budget and circumstance allows, and go again.
Did think the last time Everton finished above us we went on to win the CL in far stranger circumstances and with a poorer side.
If Klopp pulled that off then it would be a massive fuck you to this entire football media in this country.
Imagine if 6 months ago somebody would say “you lot will be languishing in mid table, with Everton above you and just off the back of 5 home defeats”.
I’d have laugh at that
I don’t disagree with you but in all honesty why should we need to ask for stuff?
it’s a failure of the whole system that this shit isn’t picked up and dealt with. In rugby he would have been cited.
I don’t think it’s a one player fixes all scenario to be honest. Not unless its VvD.
… and Hendo … oh! sorry that makes 2 players.
Anyone calling for Klopp to leave needs to give themselves an upper cut and get some perspective.
You’re right in my view, the frustrations come from what seems to be a reluctance to change his formation, tactics and loyalty to certain players. Supporters are tired of seeing us churn out the same dross while we are going through this slump and can’t work out why the gaf doesn’t want to try something completely different.
I would expect 99% of supporters love the man, as they should, and just want to see him doing something more radical to lift us out of this mire.
this is absolutely spot on. I actually see Thiago as a bit of a catalyst when it comes to this, and Milner. Gini is fantastic on the ball but too soft. This club has always needed players with fire in their belly. those that will run through a brick fucking wall for the club and on the pitch the last few weeks we haven’t had that. Even Henderson is turning into a bit of a pussy and he used to have a go at anyone.
Why do we get picked apart by the bottom teams? Because they’re used to slugging it out in the trenches, that’s how games are won in the Championship. Hard work and grit. the players currently on the pitch at Anfield are playing like they’re floating around the Bernabeu with the ref in their pocket and that’s not reality.
These lads are getting an education in being soft and what that gets you. Which is just a paycheque and a beating from lads who make 1/3rd of your pay on a weekly salary. At some point, that will sink in.
Fuck me, do we miss big Virg more than ever. He had a big fucking brass pair on him and led by example.
