Post match: Liverpool v Chelsea (EPL 9/5/26 12.30pm)

It wasn’t Grav it was Gakpo, Barnes also blamed the wrong player.

Who made that cross field pass to Rio second half and he set off and fed Cody on the overlap only for Cody to fubar it?

Considering we have won only 12 of the last 31 sums it up perfectly.

I thought Rio held on to the ball far too long and it wasn’t a great pass to Cody but because hes everyones favourite scapegoat he gets all the blame.

You’re right, Cody has to rightly take a lot of blame but that particular one wasn’t his fault.

But I think “scapegoat” is absolving him of rightful blame.

We know Slot is behind the malaise but Cody has been particularly dire. And a big part of it is his visible lack of effort.

There are loads of them need to have a long fucking look in the mirror. If they can tear themselves away from insta for two minutes.

Cody offside for jones goal also and only had a handful of touches in first 45.

What do you expect him to have when it takes us 3 business days to get the ball forward.

Gakpo is shite and was shite today as always (though as always we can´t create much for our striker) but I think for that opportunity Rio´s pass was too under Gakpo´s body and it was a difficult one to take in his stride.

He´s just not very good.

He can´t dribble and isn´t quick enough to stretch teams out wide.

He isn´t a clever passer and seems to have tunnel vision so can´t create for others.

He´s not good enough centrally to be a striker.

Madness we didn´t replace Diaz and thought Gakpo would be our first choice winger.

He is part of the problem.

When he drops deeper to “help out” all he does is stop the ball, thereby killing the momentum of the move, and, as if realising for the first time that he has neither the pace nor the strength nor the guile to counter the defence in front of him, passes it straight back and legs it upfield.

As if now it’s someone else’s problem to unpick the opposing defence.

Every single time.

Okay, I have seen, we all have seen, Cody play better. Last season for example. He played better because the team dynamics and tactics (Klopp-era style) suited him. It also gave him confidence.
I’ve seen him tricking his way past defenders and using quick feet to bamboozle opponents. He did it in front of me against Bournemouth in the first game of this season.
But as the season has gone on, the negativity on the pitch has made him go into his shell. He’s playing not to get blamed (ironically it’s having the opposite effect).

That is unequivocally down at Slot’s door.

Decided to swerve this game. It doesn’t seem I missed much?

Why?

Probably because @Hope.in.your.heart isn’t a sadomasochist like the rest of us

Not surprised by this result. The PSV and Tottenham home performances this year have told me that there is no floor on a game-to-game basis. I know we have injuries, but the players we have available should be good enough to beat bad teams at home. And make no mistake - Chelsea are shambolic.

Despite this and the presence of an interim manager, they outplayed us. Our head coach looks checked out, and our players reflect that attitude on the pitch.

This isn’t the toxicity of the Hodgson era. This definitely gives me more late-stage Brendan vibes.

I don’t think they can bring him back at this point.

We are away on holiday at the moment and it’s the first time ever that we couldn’t be arsed to find somewhere to watch the game. Sounds like we made the right decision. The very worst season that I can ever remember.

Gakpo 12 touches in 77 minutes.

At this point you have to question whether this team even wants CL football next year. Intensity of play would suggest not.
