Gomez gets it.
It’s such a pity Joe started getting injured, we could have used his services much more over the years. He immediately made our ball possession in defence much better.
I still don’t like to hear booing at Anfield and the fans that do it, should go and support Everton.
I don’t either but it’s not as unusual at Anfield as we would like to think. Rafa’s team got booed for a 1-1 draw when they were top of the table.
Just look at Slot’s midfield this season, aren’t they all the same in possession?
Even Wirtz has become the same however he can’t shoot
.
It has to be a training thing, vision of the game, only Jones offers up something different now.
The match day fans have been remarkably restrained in response to what they’ve been served up this season
That’s because most of them are fast asleep!
I was there for possibly the worst match of the season (Forest) and there were no boos. Just resigned early departures.
But now the anger grown and it won’t be denied.
Did you watch the second half?
I feel asleep during the 1st half to be rudely awakened by some extra noise when Chelsea scored.
In that second half Jones showed more going forward than any other player on our team.
I know Szoboszlai has been our best player this season and many defend him. I’m not even saying it’s his fault just that what he does doesn’t fit in with what the rest of the team are doing.
This crap shouldn’t be supported.
Or right side is a joke whoever is there, it’s worst than having TAA jogging about.
Tell me what is the point of what Szoboszlai does?
We are not talking about Hungry though, are we?
Watching the old firm derby. Both Celtic and Rangers look better than us. Mind you, it’s not that hard at the moment.
Even the team @Mascot coaches is probably a better viewing proposition at the moment
I have to say though I was wondering what Szobo’s position was because he was going beyond Gakpo, who was supposed to be our Centre forward. But was still ending up mostly in his usual left-sided position and Rio was regularly ahead of him. Which is why Cody was the third in line to start pressing but he’s pressing was so lethargic that it allowed Chelsea to comfortably dribble away from our press.
That’s what I trying to get at the structure, tactics and execution, even the commitment, is just so off.
I ask what does it serve that Szoboszlai sprints 20 to 30 metres at a professional EPL player ( who in all honesty should be more than capable of dealing with, it just doesn’t make sense.
Yet we concentrate on Jones being pressed relatively well and messing it up at right back.
Jones from what I remember played much of his career more on the left of central midfield and quite high up the pitch.
I really get the feeling people aren’t watching.
What does Szoboszlai create when we have possession. Yesterday Jones created a lot more in the few spells in the second half he took to getting central and pushing forward the the rest of the team in 90 minutes of Slot ball.
However this isn’t about Jones vs Szoboszlai it’s about wtf is going on and why are all are midfielders playing like gumps?
Absolutely nothing. I was going to come to this point, our pressing is disjointed and unless we win the ball really high up and it’s just a matter of putting it in the net, we don’t know what to do with it.
The most broken portion of our game is when we start out from the back. Like I said in my first in this thread, it’s almost accidental that we created good opportunities from scratch.
Never more obvious than in the first half yesterday. There was a period of about 15 minutes when we were penned in our own half and couldn’t get hold of the ball at all.
When a Chelsea attack broke down we were treated to the spectacle of us trying to move the ball upfield with no success. Nobody could find a forward pass, nobody could carry the ball out of defence, nobody could beat a man. It was literally seconds every time before Chelsea won it back. Absolutely pathetic to watch.

“Said it over and over again, our fans will back them even when they’re losing, if they’re giving their all. These lads aren’t. All stems from the top.”
Edit
That’s a stark contrast to what JoGo/Virgil said; it looks like our “new generation” of players doesn’t understand it.
At the beginning of the season when Sloz was asked to drop in at Right full-back, with constant weekly coaching I had visions of him becoming the best right-back in Europe… Yes we needed his engine in midfield, yes we needed his shooting from long-range, yes we needed his pressing etc etc… but now what I see we have produced with this forever changing hybrid ‘hokey-cokey’ tactic from Slot, is a guy now, that seems confused with what exactly is required from him. Not only that, alongside Wirtz, both of them seem to be micro-managed from the sideline to such degree, they seem afraid of expressing their natural abilities on the pitch…
The energy levels of Sloz, remind me very much to the energy levels of Terry MacDermott. Yet if we look at the goals scored and the assist record of TMc, they are/were so much greater than Sloz… This to me, is again evidence, that we are not using the gifted talents of Sloz, in a manner that benefits both him, and us, and that is definitely down to the coaching department.
I suggest only watching the big games instead of going cold turkey on your favorite club. But of course, I partly say that because I so vaue your presence here.
If you only watch some highlights now and then and then the odd big game and maybe European football, then that is enough to know where we are and how we play. No need for self crucifixion and watching everything
Szoboslai is a slightly better than average player. That’s all. But he is better than what we’re seeing under this manager. Moves break down when he gets the ball. He’ll stop dead and make a ‘calm down’ gesture to his team-mates. Then he’ll pass it backwards. He very rarely makes a forward pass of any substance.
This has to be on the manager. Safety-first, let’s re-group and give nothing away fucking garbage.
