People are very sanguine about dropping four points already. If we want to finish above cheaty then it’s a terrible start. People saying they would be satisfied with a top four - really? If we don’t win a couple more titles with Klopp now (CL or PL, not one of Guardiola’s “tittles”) then when will we?
That fucking book. Wish that Pep hadn’t written that, to be honest I’m beginning to think he’s a bit of a ‘big time Charlie’.
Ah fuck it. Call it self love
Uhh what? I think you’ll find that the majority of us know that this is a not insignificant setback already. Injuries have decimated the squad in all areas. We could perhaps accept a one-off bad performance against Fulham but I agree that two in a row is hard to take
I’ve already gone on record to say that I don’t think we are winning the title this season. The primary reason for me is the durability of crucial members of the squad.
That was my thought when I saw the goal, but I couldn’t quite remember (also I didn’t get a good look at it thanks to technical issues).
His positioning left much to be desired there, and especially given his limited pace he ought to have been more disciplined with the line.
What?
It’s not a good start but I trust the squad and the management to make corrections. Man City dropped three points in their first two games last season and no one in their fanbase was panicking that Liverpool were now uncatchable.
I also think Man City are a worse team today than they were last season.
CL is unaffected by our games so far and I expect us to have another strong campaign.
firstly theres an obvious difference between Nunez and Carvalho
but more importantly, it was general bog standard niggle the professional players would get every other week…there was nothing (IMHO) for Milner to intervene with…Anderson didnt leave his studs on him, didnt continually abuse him, he just did some low level niggle…
it makes a better narative if there was something to get involved over, but by premier league standards, there was nothing there that ‘needed to be dealt with’
Darwin just fucked up.
again, this is just my opinion.
Thanks for the still.
It certainly is telling, Eze gets the ball facing his own goal with Trent in front of him and Fabinho coming behind him. Technically, he’s one on two in a dangerous position for his team if he loses position. However, there is the freedom of Anfield to at least two Crystal Palace players smack bang in the middle of the park with none of our midfielders anywhere to be seen. Eze then makes a simple turn in and Fabinho, Trent, the non-existent Liverpool midfield and everyone else wearing Red except VVD and Phillips is now a passenger. Eze then releases the ball just past where the center circle begins in Palace’s half, he’s turned and run unchallenged for about 20-25 with enough time on the ball for a pot noodle and a wank as well before releasing.
We’re good at suffocating teams but the shape of the team on that still is horribly exposed; Fabinho being pulled wide, Elliot out wide and irrelevant, Milner nowhere to be seen and Trent running backwards with the ball already past him. That’s leaving a gaping hole just waiting to be exploited and it was and if the plan is for Fabinho to be the cover for all that space then we need to think again because he’s damn slow and has started getting dribbled and turned as easily as fuck.
Klopp’s taken this team as far as it can go, finishing above City was a huge ask even before season began…now it’s got that bit tougher.
Still think we’ll finish close to 90 points again this season, it’s whether City go on a crazy run again like they did the last 3-4 months of the season.
I don’t believe that. I think we’ll win (at least) another PL and CL before the end of the Klopp era
We can’t expect to go head to head with this machine. Klopp has made us over-perform season after season. This guy is a miracle really. But we absolutely can’t expect to beat that juggernaut in blue, unless they seriously start underperforming, in order for us to pounce on the occasion. That’s what we did in our title-winning season.
The other seasons, Abu Dhabi have performed to their usual standards. Four champions titles in five years, and there is every chance that they’ll do it again.
Hopefully we’ll be able to win games soon in order to at least give them a run for their money, and if we manage to beat them in our next encounter, then we’ll see. But us winning the league would be very much against the odds, that much is clear, with or without Klopp.
Especially with us being hit by these freaking early injury-woes, while the bald cheater has a fully fit squad to chose from as far as I’m aware.

In our title winning season we were record breaking - I think 26-1-0 at one stage FFS - cheaty only fell away after we had established a clear lead. Thats what we’d have to do again - after our terrible start sadly its looking incredibly remote. I want this team to win another PL - ending the Klopp era with only 1 PL would not not do justice to the teams he’s built - but time is running out and really when you consider the age of the bulk of our squad this season was our best chance. Very disappointing!
This team is fantastic, but there is another team which is every bit as performing, fuelled with a bottomless amount of cash if needed, and benefitting from dodgy ref decisions as well. The deck is stacked as fuck.
The fact that we managed to win one title with Klopp is nothing short of a miracle for me.
this is the problem with having a high possession rate which I hinted at earlier. Once you get up around that 75% mark you starting thinking with the mindset of full-out attack. This is the discipline which we lack at times, to keep our shape and ensure we have the numbers. It can be a detriment to be dominating at time, as teams like Palace will drop deep and compact and try to weather the storm. Suddenly your mids are creeping up to the top of the box or out wide with the wingers and when you make a mistake and turn the ball over, this shit happens.
this will be something the technical team will pull apart and Klopp will definitely have already discussed this. the strength of Henderson and keeping players checked in was missing here, he knows how to keep the team organized.
This is a really good point. One of the things that is most notable about Pep’s Barca era team was how much effort they made to still keep the pitch stretched even when having that much possession. It’s very tempting for everyone to just creep closer and closer to the goal, but it ends up just causing you o get in each other’s way and making the defender’s work even easier.
perfectly explained here, by one of the best. Pep may be the rich twat with the best tools, but he knows what he’s doing.
I said in the in game thread that Fab was the main culprit for the goal as he allowed the player to come inside by over committing and getting ‘done’ then VVD could see what was happening and rather than making a conscious decision to come across he held his position.
For me the high line is great for our press but why when they only have one man up front do we not mark him and not allow him to go in behind, especially in this situation where the player on the ball has time and there his too much space in behind?
Unfortunately for Nat, he didn’t time the trap well. Zaha’s run actually starts in his own half and within 3-4 strides he’s level with Phillips. but Eze plays a quick ball and beats the trap. Credit to those two, it’s a well executed break.
