Post match: Liverpool v Crystal Palace (EPL 18/9/21 3pm)

Why is everyone saying the scoreline flattered us, yes palace could have scored but we could have a couple more aswell.

Fair play to Crystal Palace. Even though they lost, what a buzz that must be for their fans to finally going from a Triceratops as coach to a progressive, forward thinking manager who gets his team playing exciting football. They had a real crack and played some nice stuff, just not clinical enough when you’re facing an Alisson and Mo Salah in this kind of unstoppable form. Not to mention Mane who just toys with Palace every time he plays them.

Palace were not the pushover some may have expected, the have made it hard for us in the past, and caused a few issue t5oday.
Alisson was on song,as usual so no damage was done.
I nteresting with the defenders not having played there before and didn’t do too bad at all.Konate looks like he might be just a tad useful.Great to see Mane get his ton,and loved Naby’s goal.
Very happy camper at the minute.
Alisson MOTM for me.

We definitely deserved to win but I guess some would think that it does not really look like a 3-0 kind of game, more like a 1-0, 2-1 kind of game. That is a compliment to how CP played rather than a criticism of how we played.

I think Konate’s debut showed how difficult it is to come into this Liverpool side and performed to a very high standard. He was definitely nowhere near Matip’s standard but he is young and showed that he has some very good qualities and with the right coaching and attitude, he should become very good for us. Barring luck with injuries, this game also showed how much depth we have, and how good those depth is, despite they are not big names. Milner came in at RB and handled Zaha pretty well, usually a tricky customer. Thiago had to go off but Keita came in and scored a wonderful goal. We have the luxury of resting Robertson. Even Origi looks motivated when he came on for a few minutes. I think we are getting in the right groove in terms of attitude, motivation and getting the job done.

Palace fought hard, had a couple half penalty shouts, and would have been good value for a goal. On the other hand, we could have had a couple more (umm… Diogo???) although Keita’s was a thunderbolt out of nowhere.

So on balance, I’d say 3-1 would have been a scoreline reflective of the game… so i guess you could say the scoreline flattered them… ever so slightly…

I haven’t heard anyway saying we didn’t deserve to win, so I figure that’s fair enough. There always seems to be a tendency to big up the underdog and try to make the game seem closer than it was. On the balance of play, I’d say we probably deserved a bigger margin of victory agains Milan mid-week - but that game could have been 3-0 15 minutes in…

lads played well, and Palace made a game of it. We deserved our points and great to see the rotation of the squad keeping the high acceleration needed to win games.
Alisson’s job is to keep the ball out of the net which he did today, so rightfully kudos to him.
Hopefully Thiago’s injury is not a serious one

The thing is although we could have scored several more, if Palace had scored when they had good chances the momentum could have changed the game entirely.

I’ve highlighted the two key words.

My Palace-supporting mate is adamant they would have won the game if any one of their penalty shouts had been given.

Yeah, right.

I might jinx things by starting Norwich thread…
Anyone any thoughts as I am undecided…

It’s a hard one as it’s cup and we should expect many changes to the team. It could ruin your reputation if the youngsters lose to Norwich. The chance of a jinx is high, I think all competitive matches are important and we should go out to win them. Personally I’d leave the cups for someone who doesn’t feel the League cup is important.

The Caribo Cup is the League Cup.

Reading on here on a regular basis how lucky we were to win. If Palace had done this that or the other. Well they didn’t. They knocked it around ok but had less than 40%possession and 2 shots on target.
If the Tsimikas thing was a penalty then we’d be getting 30 a season.
Thought the ref was decent, didn’t fall for the theatricals and let the game flow.

If I was a Palace fan I’d have been annoyed at the ref yesterday.

As well as Milner played, it was made 5x easier by the ref’s refusal to book him. How he and Thiago escaped yellows is beyond me.

I think a 3-0 win against steam who beat Spurs 3-0 is a pretty good result. Considering we played mid week.

Big save from Alisson at 1-0 from Eduardo.
That goes in and it’s a different game but that’s why we have Alisson. His concentration level and one on one skills are amazing.

If it was me with such an impressive win/draw ratio… I would stick to the important games!
But your choice entirely…
Maybe lftikhar with his shit record might do it and this should give Norwich a fighting chance…

Best we’ve had since Clemence without a doubt. Not afraid to put himself in where it hurts either.
