So much to be pleased about. We looked and played like a Liverpool team after months.
Everyone played well but Bajcetic stole the show playing in a new position. What a prospect he is. Both Nunez and Gakpo were fantastic offering further proof that writing off new players after a few months is idiotic. Especially when they are playing in a struggling team.
Really happy with that performance. I thought that midfield setup was interesting, and gave Henderson a bit more freedom to create, though that setup is not going to work on every team.
The energy last night was outstanding. Honestly, that’s the energy I expect every game from them and it has been missing for half a season, but if a home derby is needed to bring it back and the energy is here to stay, then I am a very happy chappy.
Nothing gets completely turned around in 1 match, and it was an opponent in the relegation zone, but I really really hope this is the real start of our season. Our fans were fantastic. They need to put in that same effort next home match regardless of who it is.
Top 4 I feel is still unrealistic but we need to string some wins/clean sheets etc together and finish the season strongly to take something into next season.
At last, a performance worthy of LFC. For me the most significant thing was the fact we played fast, competitive football from the first whistle instead of faffing about slowing the game down for the first half.
So many good performances and now with quality players recovering from injury we should be able to kick on.
Well that was much easier on the eye. Not sure if we’ve turned a corner, it was Everton and they had pretty much no threat. But still, nice to see the players looking like they actually enjoyed playing football!
Really enjoyed last night. It was bouncing from the start and never really dipped. Best atmosphere for a long time. If we could play Everton every week we’d be fine. It was classic Dycheball. Low block, time wasting, players taking it in turns to commit fouls and pinning all their hopes on getting something from a set-piece. Showed Dyche up as a dinosaur because every other manager seems to know you’ve got to get at Liverpool. Commit a few players forward and put us under pressure. Everton were in damage limitation from the kick-off like they were playing peak Klopp LFC from 2019.
The front line all played well and we were a threat on the counter attack for the first time for ages. Robbo was excellent and gets an extra point for winding up Pickford. Gomez had a good game too but star man was Bajcetic. This was the first time I’d seen him play in the flesh. He is seriously impressive for an 18 year old. Harvey’s good for his age too but Bajcetic is not only good he very obviously fits into this team. Got just about everything we need in a midfielder. First choice now on merit.
I dont know if every feed got the same post game interview, but on the International english language broadcast in the US we had a lovely one with Mo and Bajcetic. Mo has just scored what turned out to be the winning goal in a high priority game in a season where he’s personally struggled. His entire interview was praising everyone else - how fantastic Bajectic has been and how immense Darwin is and how good he is going to be for this team if people give him a bit of a patience.
Harry Kane could have gone through that interview and mentioned nothing but his goal and not even acknowledged the kid standing next to him.
There was a game maybe about 5 or 6 games into Alonso’s Liverpool career that made me fall in love with him. He hadnt come into the side straight away despite looking technically brilliant every time he played, so there was this question (fear) over whether a Spanish CM could hack the pace and physicality of the Prem. Then in one game in the early autumn I saw him launch himself into a tackle like he’d been playing here all his life. There was never a question asked about him over that again. Last night Bajcetic had a similar challenge on Gueye. He didnt win the ball, but his commitment prevented Gueye from doing so, and Robbo was able to pick up the loose ball and skip away from something that with a less committed defense effort could have been a dangerous counter for Everton.
If we’re thinking of the same incident (first half) then it got me and a few others around me out of their seats punching the air. He’s not only good technically, he puts himself about. So cool and composed as well for a lad his age. I’m not so keen on the overhead back heels but I’m nit-picking here. He is a serious talent.
I love VVD standing tall for his team mates. What made me chuckle was someone trying to restrain the Scouse Greek, he was so up for giving out shit to someone
