Post match: Liverpool v Everton (EPL 13/2/23 8pm)

yes, I think I heard something similar on my stream, but unfortunately there is a slightly more distressing flip side, even if we win our game in hand but then lose to Newcastle, we are 9 points off 4th place as opposed to 3 points off if we beat them.

If the team needed any motivation to ensure they play at the same level at St James Park that they did today, that stat is it !

EDIT - can anyone explain how I include the post that I am replying to within this reply, couldn’t work it out ?

Click the little speech bubble in the top left corner after you hit reply.

Thank you!

Robbo laughed because he saw the gloves Pickford was wearing

I haven’t had that much time to watch football lately as the baby has been keeping me very much occupied (and it has been a crappy season so far anyway) but made sure I tuned in for the derby. What a relief to finally see a win.

The midfield looked solid and young Bajcetic looks like he could develop into one hell of a player.

This hasn’t been photoshopped

Isn’t it amazing, for the last 6 months(?) the fanbase has been calling for a return to counter-attacking football with fast breaks, 3-4 passes out from the back. Given we don’t have a pressing game anymore it seemed the obvious plan b. Lo-and-behold, look what happens with a counter-attacking game. That first goal was Liverpool of 2018-2020, just cutting teams apart in the blink of an eye. They have a chance, we score.

Just watched the game already knowing we won 2-0. We didn’t play counter attacking football but our counter attacks were devastating.

  1. Thought we were excellent. That was a derby game and we bossed it.
  2. TAA was brilliant. Such a smart football IQ, cool as a cucumber, some great passes.
  3. Bajetic was superb. Great composure. Broke up play and looked to get us on the attack Last 5 mins before he went off, his passing went a bit sloppy.
  4. Way too much made about their chance after Matip’s poor attempt at a clearance. I thought he was clean through following the comments on here. Someone, Dane I think even tried to blame Gomez, saying he turned his back and got a lucky block. SMH.
  5. Gapko grew into the game. We saw what Klopp saw and what I didn’t see. Dropped deep collected the ball, turned and got us on the front foot. If he has as much technique as Bobby, while having more pace, well that could be a devastating weapon to have in our front line.
  6. The captain was fantastic. Was everywhere, ran his socks off, played some intelligent football.
  7. Mo. That’s the player I hope we see for the rest of the season. Very tricky, took the right options.
  8. Darwin, absolutely no doubts or worries that he’ll be great for us.
  9. How many fouls were Everton allowed? Poor reffing. Couple of nasty ones Jordan I thought. A shoulder in his back on his blind side.
  10. Loved Andy Robertson. Loved his game, loved his snide, I also loved VVD getting in their faces, thought some of those Everton players were going to poo themselves.
  11. Great to see some of injured players back.

We look like we are gearing up for 4231 to me, in terms of recent recruitment.

Nunez
Diaz Gakpo Salah

With Jota, Firmino, Carvalho and Elliot able to rotate in. I think we also need a fast understudy to Salah, strong, with a trick, and an eye for goal. That is not a bigger priority than sorting the midfield, but it is coming.

Fair shout. With the emergence of Bajcetic in the middle, it is a timely reminder that we have some great young players.

Doak has done really well to get a sniff in the first team at his age. I want to see how he develops in the next two years to help me know if he is of the calibre to replace Mo, but he deserves a shot to keep growing.

That was utterly atrocious, has someone pressed play on the goalie or has he just not spotted Salah.

Looks like he has already started his 20 second rants he does at his defence.

oh please… we’ve had enough sore midfielders this season

Would this be enough to convince Bellingham?

All though that is all true, let’s not forget who we played, let’s see how we do this weekend, the opposition will be a lot tougher.

I was here, commented on the match, sorry that you missed it …

Didn’t post last night as I needed to be up very early this morning. I woke up with tinnitus hissing in my ears. Did I have the TV on too loud? No, it was just the sound of Evertonian piss boiling.

MotM, Bajčetić. This lad is something special. I just hope we don’t lean too hard on him as, unbelievably, he is still only 18.

Both goals were pleasing. Two on the break against a side that was set up to defend.

It’s only one match and it’s only Everton but this felt like a step change for us. A decent performance and a couple of long term injuries coming back. Feeling positive for a change.

Much needed win, with some top performances.
Its a bit picky, but last night was a microcosm of the treatment Salah gets over the last four or five seasons. Constant chopping, pulling and cuntism that would see Harry Kane or Grealish in hospital. And blind eyes turned to it.
