The valid point these pundits miss, to me anyhow, if we take a two goal lead in any game, our philosophy now, and rightly so, seems to be for the players to preserve some energy and consolidateâŚ
This might be due to the likelihood that our squad will be playing 50-60games during the season⌠and the sharp end, the cup final dates etc, will be coming about when our energy fuel gauge is beginning to register that the tank is sucking fumesâŚ
The reason I believe our policy has changed from playing the cavalier âgung-hoâ approach all game, every game⌠is because if we check the recent records, our players are not getting the niggling injuries as often as we were in the past⌠It is as though some medical boffin in the club has said⌠âIf you want to improve the injury list, stop playing at break-neck pace every gameââŚ!
At the weekend, did we have any familiar faces not available due to injuryâŚ? and how long has it been since we have had that luxury⌠The correlation between persistent injuries not occurring, and us playing shite for some part during a 95min game, seems to be workingâŚ
Lets just swamp the opposition and score five or six when we have reached a cup final or two :0)
I think we were more effective at it under Slot last season I have a feeling the changes are still creating some cohesion issues if you look at the goals a lot are needless misreading of passes to start.
Newcastle picked themselves up and probably the ones it doesnât apply too.
Ath Madrid was offside and deflection. Where we havenât done that we kept two clean sheets so thatâs probably it. Letâs be totally honest Everton were offering very little until they were handed the ball for that goal and even then itâs a good finish.
Salah probably should make it 3-0 just before it, and it wouldnât have been massively out of place if we had gone up by 3.
Nah utter bollox, that is his shampoo the are talking about
LFC rightly doing what is best by their players and the clubâŚ
howeverâŚ
(had this conversation a few times now)âŚthats a massive issue created by football and a fundamental problem.
the game is actually part of the entertainment industry, it last for ninety minutes and should be played correctly for ninety minutes, the product we are now witnessing are 15/20 minute spells, alost âset playsâ, and then long periods of energy conservation. FIFA are damaging thier own product.
you can go watch grass roots football for a fraction of the price and whilst the players themselves arent of the same quality, you do get 90 minutes of two equally graded teams trying to win a game of football.
its very sanitised at the top level (no blame attributed to the clubs)
you wouldnt go to a play and expect the actors to pick out the odd scene they love, nail it, and just post in the rest of the performance
I donât follow thereâs nothing valid about that, itâs more like contrived nonsense or listening to Donald Trump.
How do you conserve energy by giving the ball away through forcing the game. Ending up racing after the opposition in possession?
Ok we avoid being tackled however at the same time either need to make tackles or concede a goal.
Keeping possession is the way to preserve energy. At least imo
I noticed all the moaning from pundits ceased when we got crowned champions. At some point you canât keep thinking itâs luck to grind out results week after week.
Very late to the party, but I didnât get the occasion to post something after the game. I watched it though, and it was great to be honest. As seems to be usual these days, we made a super start to the game, put them under pressure, and scored two magnificent goals. Especially the first was one to take you off your seat and to be remembered for a long time. What. a. goal. But the second was delightful as well, Ekitike did so well to put in into the net. After that, the first half was a tale of full control and not giving Everton a sniff apart from a half-chance. It was really great.
As could be expected, the second half was more difficult, probably because of the tough game on Wednesday, but also because of an excellent Everton. Our lads struggled to control the game as they had done previously, and missed their few chances to make the third goal. Inevitably, Everton scored from a beautiful goal, and applied a lot of pressure after that. But our lads found the strength to resist and not to concede a second. They turned out deserved winners imo, as they could have made it 3-1 from quick counters. But unfortunately, our subs (ie. Wirtz) werenât decisive in that regard, and so we stayed under pressure until the end. But we made it. Three points, and with results going our way this week-end, we find ourselves five points in the clear already. Whatâs not to like about that?
Well done to our lads. It was tough, but they prevailed!
Also, one noticeable point to add: the ref let the game flow, but consistently. The result was a fast, fluent game, without too many bad tackles. There was no intent to injure the opponent on either side, and I perceived this as a refreshing change when compared to former derbies these last years. Hoepfully itâs the start of a new trend, Iâd love it. And I reiterate with quite some satisfaction that the ref was excellent this time around. Well done to him too!
