Konate rubbed his tummy

Nunez was a game changer. He causes chaos in the opponent’s defence, inducing mistakes. His selfless pass to Mo needs to be an example for our other forwards.

Early kick off right after an international break. We usually struggle to get in the groove in these situations, so a win whatever the performance was the most important thing.

Can rotate for Toulouse, and work on things on the training ground for the Forest game on Sunday.

Easy way to judge if it should be called handball… or not -
If he was standing on the goal-line and stopped the flight of the ball in the same way… there could be no argument
Alongside the PGMOL… It is actually the pundits that are turning the game toxic… To them, every decision has to contentious

We got the three points, that’s what matters. We have three other winnable games in the league before the next international break. Let’s win ‘em and see where we at when we play City after the break

First half we showed some good football, good movement in midfield and some nice little triangles. We should have scored even when we were playing 11 vs 11.
Now, let’s build on this and smash Forrest next Sunday👊

Konate ‘could have gone’

FT: Liverpool 2-0 Everton

Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: “I liked it a lot. It is a derby, you have to consider different stuff With a better last pass in the first-half we are three nil up. Our counter attacks and good offensive transitions we should have scored and didn’t.

“We didn’t allow them to do what they wanted. We were clear in the challenges. It is difficult because it was a deep block and they adapted slightly and set up to our strengths.

“I liked a lot of moments and then the red card was pretty influential in the game. I wanted us to be calm and ignore that we were one man up. It is difficult in the stands because it’s like now you have to create with each possession and it took a while until we got chances. And then the penalty. I saw it back and it is a clear penalty. Ibrahima, could have gone, yes. It could have happened obviously and then we took him off and from that moment we were solid and compact.”

Defenders now, in the box, have arms at the side or behind their bodies, so they don’t giveaway pens…he was directing bloody traffic…no intention of bringing his arm in closer to the body…

Young was rightly sent off whilst Konate’s second challenge wasn’t nearly as egregious and did not warrant a second yellow. Furthermore, it’s striking that if left to his own devices, Pawson would have deprived us of not one but of two clear penalties. The ref didn’t gift us anything and any similar talk stems from wanting to create controversy and/or pure bias.

As for the game itself, it was hardly a vintage performance but it was sufficient. If Everton weren’t so shit, we might have had to break a sweat to beat them. Funny thing is that although Salah was pretty poor throughout, he turned out to be the match-winner.

Young fouled Diaz to stop him running in on goal… That is why his 2nd card was issued

Yes, Pawson pointed that out when Tarkowski went up to him.

The Independent Key Match Incidents Panel ruled Diogo Jota should not have been sent off against Spurs. There has to be more to the foul, which Ashley’s ticks the boxes. Plus he had a warning already oin the first half after his first yellow.

Stephen Warnock came out the absolute beauty for it not being a penalty was the arm was already out before the cross at no point was it moved to the ball.

The argument that Konate should have been sent off seems to based on the idea that when you get a yellow card any subsequent fouls should result in dismissal.

Klopp, seeing that the Everton players and staff got in Pawson’s face about it, realised that Ibou was going to be put under pressure.

Top of the league. Nothing else matters.

If that penalty hadn’t been given……. The look on the ref’s face when he called it after cocks at HQ couldn’t call it was epic.

Deserved red.
Definite pen.
Should maybe have had one a minute or so before when Diaz was taken out.
Konate…yeah lucky to not get a 2nd yellow.

All the shit about the red changing the game though!!???
I might be wrong but…the only chance i remember them having was DCLs header, straight at Alli, after like 90 seconds.

Both teams got exactly what their respective performances deserved.

The Konate one is very much in the category of you’ve seen them given so I get the point of it being raised. But it’s also in the category of those that don’t get given and leave fans asking why and trying to understand where the consistency is. At least in this game the consistency was in not giving them just for being fouls. Instead it needs to have meaningfully impeded a promising attack. I don’t know on the second one if the lads was even going to get to the ball let alone run past Virgil.

But as we talk about balancing things out relative to young’s entirely deserved two bookings, let’s remember tarkowski got away without a booking for tripping Jota on the edge of the box while he was lining up an otherwise unchallenged shot.

There are always decisions you can take about afterwards that could have gone the other way. But the context of those in this game is that Everton offered nothing and defended for the entire game. In a game like that all the decisions are about punishing one of their defenders or letting him go. If you do nothing but defend, at times desperately, you’re going to put the ref into situations where statistically he’s almost certain to give a pen and or send off one of your players.

I think Jürgen himself said it could have been a second yellow, as per @sandsoftime’s post above.
