Post Match: Liverpool v Forest (EPL 29/8/26 12.30pm)

We were alright, bit unlucky. I think the effort is there so I’m willing to be patient. Still very easy to put under pressure at full back, but Munoz has definitely added some spark.

Isak and Wirtz both slightly improved — they need to dominate some home games to get confident I think

As I said in the in match thread, the unwritten rule is usually no pen if shot taken.

Then once ref gives it on the pitch, VAR will not get involved unless there’s a factual error in ref’s decision making. Soft pen. One that we will never get.

Sound for midfielders apparently

Penalty was a joke. Munoz shoved over at full pace but no penalty but fouls given for identical shoves later. No consistency in the reffing

Sadly, I think even Iraola himself in his retired state would be better than Frimpong at RB.

Hughes got a diminutive wingback to play RB. In the most high tempo, most physical league in Europe.

The very definition of incompetence.

Hopefully Hughes delivers before he departs for Saudi. His tenure has been woefully disappointing.

Yeah, this was my take as well. Officiating was pretty horrendous all told.

You’re too kind.

It’s so bad it’s borderline fraudulent.

Are we sure they haven’t got Ali and Isak the wrong way round?

Two very exciting games we have played which is encouraging. Iraola needs to make some brave decisions in midfield and Hughes needs to sign someone who can pass.

Good :

  1. Gakpo can do a good nice sliding pass if he wants to…Just don’t let him cross high balls.
  2. Victor Munoz is not very good at LW somehow but became a beast on the right.
  3. Wirtz was the one that is key to making this Liverpool team tick. All the goals came from Plays that originated from him.
  4. Szobo gave the required energy at RB and put in a lot of good crosses…He should really consider being a RB where he has the freedom and the stamina to go up and down.
  5. Macca brought a lot of stability to the CM position.
  6. Nyoni is not bad with his vertical passes.
  7. Jacquet and Araujo did well too with Araujo willing to switch the play from flanks to flanks

Bad :

  1. Szobo was truly terrible at CM as he really cannot pick out a pass under pressure and cannot tackle properly for nuts.
  2. Frimpong is very weak defensively and shown no damn desire to come back to our half to defend. Went down too easily at times, needs to be stronger. Defensively naive as well.
  3. Rio was not very good in his cameo…Needs to master a position first before switching flanks.
  4. Kerkez needs to learn how to cross…
  5. Isak was near anonymous…needs to do way better.

When Stevie G says it was a penalty then I tend to accept that…there was contact…

He also says we lack nastiness..I tend to agree with that too…

So, are there any stats about whether we are allowing more fast break situations than other teams in the top half of the table, or whether we are just really shit at defending them? Or both?

Getting a goal scored against from a goal kick feels particular shit..

3 fast break goals against us in 2 weeks.

He did exactly that

Ventured into the penalty thread on Reddit, pretty telling that flairs from all over were astonished at the entire incompetence of the situation.
