Look, it’s not the end of the world right now and there are obvious issues that need working on. A top 4 finish is our reality this season with hopefully some good cup runs.
I do feel for Iraola at the moment. He has inherited an unbalanced squad with terrible work rate whilst also having to work in his new system against one that was the polar opposite in style from the previous coach. The first half felt exactly like what we were used to under Slot and it showed that it will take some time to drill out of them. I’ve faith it will because our fight in going behind in the first 2 games has been better. I’ve been confident we will score, last season I never was.
Not only that but our dof has failed him in the window. Our prioritys are wrong. Barcola is a good signing and a wonderful footballer, but i’d take a top class full back on any side and a top class 6 over him any day of the week. Our team needs power, our team needs a Fabinho, our team needs a Masche. Really hope a penny has dropped and we can do some business the next few days.
Munoz was good and should have started RW.. Jaquet was good and also would like to see him and Araujo start above VVD.
Full backs are a friggin liability.
Pen was a shocking decision.

I agree there are some positives but control the game we did not, and it could be argued that today we were robbed but we were fortuituous to get the second against Newcastle last week
The fact that we were better in the second half was a major plus for Iraola. Also, our players for the most part looked like they could last 90 minutes. Obviously some, like Jacquet, are only just getting up to speed, but the improvement is there. Hopefully, he will last for the full 90 in a match or two.

I hope we have one or two more signings to come in addition to Barcola. Put me down for Camara and Minteh. Then Iraola has most of the things he needs to shape the team.
I think Villa lost the first five games last season and finished in the CL spots. We will improve as we go.

Yeah, I think it is being underestimated just how poor this team was by the end of last season in physical aspects.
Klopps methods were still in place for the title winning season and the team kept it in place until Slots methods took over. Plain to see around the last qtr of the season but the real work had luckily been done. Season after they were drilled in the team.
It’ll take time for things to start flowing the way Iraola wants them to but upon reflection in our games so far, there are signs it will get there.
A patient season from fans is needed. We are not winning the league and whilst I will be gutted if we finish outside top 4, I would not be surprised. These days it doesn’t really matter anyway as top 6 teams spunk 100’s of millions on players regardless

Honestly I´d be happy with just Camara. A proper midfielder to help protect the back four and pass forward reasonably (Nyoni deserves a go) and I think we can get away with our wing options for now. Gakpo and Muñoz for the right wing is fine.
Big gaping hole (or two) in midfield and at full back right now, I´d say. Our wide options are arguably better than last year.
People are supposed to know your likes and dislikes? And comply to them?

I also agree there are some negatives, but I am more inspired by the two performances so far than any game we saw last season. Also, the negatives have been mostly moments in the game which will not happen when the team gets more familiar of what Iraola is expecting. Maybe the fullbacks are the most worrying part of the team at this moment.
However my main point was that I don’t understand why people here are so doom and gloom when its clear that the team needs time and nothing happens overnight.

I think people are over simplifying it by saying Klopp´s methods only.
We also had Salah not far from the peak of his powers, Van Dijk and Ali (although Kellelher played a lot) closer to the peaks of their powers, the best passing right full back in the world that could make up for mediocre midfield passing, Diaz, Jota, and also Robertson nearer the peak of his powers. All these players had been here years and were a settled team.
Last year was missing a few of those players AND Salah, Ali, Van Dijk and Robbo all aged and were visibly declined, whilst Arsenal improved and we had new players.

Genuinely, I think us fans just want to enjoy our football again.. People can take not winning a league in understandable circumstances. Losses and draws happen.
Going back to the 2017 season for example, we saw excellent countering football through Mo, Bobby and Sadio. It was a joy to watch at times.
BUT, we lost games too. We finished 4th in the league that season and had a great UCL run. No trophies. I consider it a great season to look back on with it being some of the best football I saw us play as a team.
