Post match: Liverpool v Fulham (7/3/21 2.00pm)

It is really obvious from the team that was picked against Fulham that we have forsaken the league and will now only concentrate on the CL. Klopp can’t say that though for obvious reasons. It’s the right strategy. It’s all or nothing now. We are still good enough to win it if things go our way on the day.

something has to change because we have become too predictable and it seems every Tom,Dick and Harry team can beat us. No goals scored at Anfield for about 12 hours of play is incredulous. The team cannot let their heads down despite the results. They dug this hole and they have to get out of it. We still will support them, but they have to stand up and be counted. Klopp can motivate them and get them believing in themselves again.

It is actually just our CBs - you say that as if it were a little thing. We are missing all of our first 3 CBs and we sold our fourth choice in the summer. They used to say that ’ you build from the back’. We may have other problems but if we even had Matip fit for a season, I think we would still be pushing for a CL spot.

But this shit always happens - people start to try to jump on the manager when things go south. How short a memory you have. We are playing two kids at CB that are used to playing in the reserves. That doesn’t just affect the defending. It affects the confidence the whole way through the side. The forwards are under so much more pressure because of it.

I thought it would have been better to come here and read this thread after 12 hours or so, but, this is getting ridiculous here after reading discussions for Poch, Rafa or Nagelsmann to step in !! FFS

People forget that ,with FSG running in a self sustainable model and with any other manager , our goal will simply always be to get top 4 and post a title challenge every 2 years or so. We cannot and simply will not be able to spend like Chelsea/City or even United.

We all tend to agree that we have been shite since lockdown. But, then we fail to mention…that it also means that we were lucky that 3/4 of the last season was played in front of fans, otherwise, we would have been in trouble last season itself.
The only reason we have been able to cross the finish line and win the league is because of the energy, belief and drive this manager has been able to feed off through fans and instil in the players.
You put any other manager there and we only end up posting a decent title challenge atmost.

Hats off to those people who flew the banner yesterday Unity is strength over the stadium. Thank fck the people in the city believe ,that this is the time to stick together and not throwing toys out of the pram.

I still feel that we need to turn this around within this season. This season cannot be a completely wash away. Football is all about momentum, confidence and winning mentality. We will not get all this back on it’s own at the start of next season.
Which is why the CL run-in and the remaining league fixtures should be about turning it around, having a go and getting that mentality and drive back. Otherwise, God forbid , if we start the next season and end up with 2-3 defeats in first 5 , heads will drop and the vultures will be out again.

It’s time to stick together and believe in this man at the helm that he will turn it around. He may not be getting help from players or coaching staff, but atleast as fans we can show him that we are there for him and not start discussing his replacements like spoilt owners of a joke club.

Players get injured in training all the time. Once your defence moves out from the back a ball over the top is always on.

I know all that. I’m just saying defensively we aren’t doing too bad considering the personnel.
Yes if affects the spine and teams confidence and if we losing 4-3, 3-2 or 5-4 I’d understand it. I just don’t see how the defensive issues stop the front 3 from falling off a cliff.
Yes the defensive issues cause the midfield issues but it’s not as if we are not seeing the ball in the final third, we are, we’re just dreadful up front.
It would cost a lot of m9ney but the midfield needs a complete rebuild along with an out and out 9 like Haaland.

Supply is a big part of it I suspect. We used to be able to catch teams in transition before. It was our greatest strength to be honest but that’s gone now. Whether that’s because teams have figured how to counter that or we dont have the people to allow that transition to start is anyone’s guess. I suspect it’s between the two given that there were signs of struggles earlier in the season before everything properly went to rat shit.

I dont think we need a revolution. The squad is too good for that but we certainly need a rethink tactically, but only in the sense of how we attack densely packed defenses. We need to get teams guessing again and something fresh might actually help with enthusiasm and confidence levels.

That midfield is increasingly becoming the key area in my mind but I’d also have a look at the roles of TAA, Robertson, Salah and Mane in particular.

I don’t think I can ever remember us making such a huge backwards step

What pisses me off about Klopp is that he can’t magically make our injuries disappear, fucking useless.

After that there’s is his frustrating inabiltity to explain that there is no way he’s going to go with 3 at the back when all his CBs are injured. Leaving me to get infuriated on here reading posters suggest it! :rage:

The concept of “We don’t have 2 decent CBs so we’ll play 3” is priceless.

Right my fellow Compadre’s… I’m still stunned, sick, disappointed after yesterdays showing…I’m not usually superstitious but I think I may have to have some help…I keep seeing single magpies before every game (we live near fields)… and also had to use my new cup(the old one started to leak)…these omens are getting my down…HELP!!!

Still need to get the front three to score 5.

Robbo Can and Gini are all (were) exceptionally good players though. Sunday, not so much.

One problem is that we rely on our FBs for width and if the system isn’t built on a solid foundation, we stop being able to prise open defenses because the two FBs are now more scared than they were before of the ball over the top. This was an issue for us, even when we had VVD. Now, it is a massive issue. Yes, Firminio in particular has not been good but Salah is still the top scorer in the PL. Mane has not been as good as he was in the past but he is still knocking goals in. It’s not just the front 3 that we have lost goals from, it’s also the midfield who used to chip in. We’ve been playing our two best midfielders at CB. That is a massive loss for the attack.

To be honest they’ve only knocked goals in when we were winning and top of the league, we’ve had one goal go in at home since December and that was a penalty.
