Post match: Liverpool v Fulham (EPL 14/12/24 3pm)

Like everyone…I would’ve loved a win…but a draw seems ok…the Arse dropped points…and we do have a game in hand…

I know, I think Tsimi is a good backup, but this the an time in the last 2 seasons that he has been injured when we need him.

Also, Konate is a beast and Jarrell, who was great last year has lost confidence.

Lastly it would be good to rest Grav, although, Macca can cover there he has the tenacity and quality but lacks pace

Knew Jota would score…

Shame they had to mind.

I’m wondering if it’s the case that Arne just doesn’t think the trade-offs are worth it because he’s largely in a sufficiently good condition physically. It’s not as if we don’t have options, even if they might not be at his level.

I know, and I am torn, it just seems like previous seasons where, injuries and tiredness of players, Robbo, is hurting us.

I am the last one that pushes for signings but we are so close to being a level above the other teams and even though our 1st eleven is.

Maybe AS is watching the rotation; or lack of; from our challengers, and has got to thinking… if we get tired later in the season, so will they… Points on the board is what he is ruthlessly pushing for at the moment

Both of their goals were down to him. There was a tremendous amount of bad luck for us on both, I still dont know if Munoz knows how he scored that second. But to a degree they deserved a bit of luck for how positive Robinson was with his runs on both, and the quality of ball on the first. Defensively though he had a tough game. As I said in the match thread, I think there were episodes where if our LB was having that hard a time we’d have been pulling our hair out.

Hope Tsimikas is available next weekend.

Wasn’t it one of the dodgy group Atwell?

Luis Diaz - early in the game, ball coming just behind him, so he readjusts for the overhead kick. The bellend ref gives a yellow. Where did they find this ref?

He is and was brilliant today, but that today will have taken a lot out of him, had to make a lot of recovery runs covering Trent.

Positives:

  1. Point earned after coming back twice with a man down. It took a lot of character and determination.
  2. Jota’s brilliance.
  3. Elliott’s energy and quality. Should have come in much sooner.
  4. Gravenberch bossing everyone and everything no matter where he’s playing.

Negatives:

  1. 2nd game in a row with dropped points due to calamitous defending.
  2. TAA being as bad as ever defensively and apart from one cross field pass, he didn’t offer anything offensively either. He was a liability throughout and Slot should have pulled him earlier.
  3. The first 30 minutes where we looked anything but ready to compete. Not the first time, that it’s happening and unfortunately not the last.
  4. The defence has collapsed in the last few games without Konate. The right side in particular. Not helped by the rest of the team either.
  5. Robertson. Partly responsible for their opener, justifiably gets sent off, it’s probable that we’ll play Gomez, Van Dijk, ?? and Quansah against Tottenham.
  6. A lot of effort wasted for what turned out to be not 3 points but 1.
  7. Slot taking too long to make subs again.

On the balance of it, I’d say that just because we saved a point at home after repeatedly shooting ourselves in the foot, shouldn’t be something to celebrate. We need to find a way to become solid again because with this type of performances, we’re not going to win anything.

FT: Liverpool 2-2 Fulham

Liverpool

Liverpool boss Arne Slot speaking to Sky Sports: "I don’t think I could’ve asked for more from my players, especially after going down to 10 men. I couldn’t have asked for more in terms of performance and results. of course, we could have had two points more. At the start of the game, you always want to start intense. After 30 seconds, one of ours was on the floor and needed treatment for a while so we couldn’t get the intensity more.

"I think Robbo might have been a bit too injured to keep going because normally he’s faster than that. It says a lot about his character that he wants to keep on going but it results in a red card. I think it’s just whether it’s offside. I was clear it wasn’t going to be changed. It’s maybe the only thing I didn’t complain about today. It’s an emotional game and we were a man down, it’s frustrating. It’s good to see our performance after so many setbacks.

“It’s difficult to judge for me because I only see it in real-time like the referee. We have to accept what VAR sees. You know how important these decisions can be. We ended up with a draw and I don’t think we can blame the referee for that. There were a few moments when I could have been given a yellow card. It’s marginal moments and when some go against you, you think some will go for you but I haven’t felt that here. There was a moment when one of their players already on a yellow could have been given another.”

Lol you have a lot more negatives than positives so how can they outweigh them?

Back of beyond…

I’d agree, but with the caveat that the transfer window won’t do anything to fix that since the relevant players would probably be back by the time it opens.

That said, if we can pick up a new left-back for the future I don’t think we’d be averse to the idea.

I doubt we’ll see him mid-week. Except watching from the stands perhaps. Surely you’ve got to think Endō and/or Morton will get that game. Hopefully.

It was fascinating since I felt like Alexander-Arnold was basically everywhere else but right-back at some point, surely that has got to be tactical?

Yeah, the Newcastle game in particular was frustrating. Players gassed and yet not using all the subs.

Putting Endo on after going 3-2 up would’ve eaten up some time and had a fresh player on with no yellow to his name (I know Slot doesn’t fancy Endo, but the Newcastle game was just crying out for fresh legs).

Tactically, Slot has been brilliant. The learning curve is rotation and subs. This time next year, I guess all will be ironed out after picking up Prem experience.

I was replying to GermanRed’s point about positives outweighing the negatives.

This is interesting. I dont think Ive ever seen a player say something like this, at least about a ref in a domestic game. I wonder what exactly he’s talking about.

He kicked a defender in the head. How are we finding ways to complain about this?
