That whole AFCON thing has set a bad precedent.

We have lost another two teams but us and Arse have kept the possibility of a 5th CL spot alive.

This is the thing, they’re good footballers. They just haven’t been putting up a fight for it on a physical or energy level.

First 5 minutes there were 3 meaty challenges put in to win duels. It was a complete opposite to what we have seen this season.

Good things happen when you move the ball fast. Plain and simple.

After watching this one, it really hit home how short they’ve sold themselves all season long. It didn’t even take that much. Just played with intensity and urgency and the rest followed. The first 15-20 minutes of the second half was the best they’ve been in probably more than a year.

Shame that it took so long to remember how good they can be.

Yep, that gives hope … again LOL

Not just that, it was the whole press and energy off the ball that made the performance.

I even saw players running back after they got in the space between midfield and defence, I was aghast

Great result obviously, no need to sugar coat that. We looked like a settled team rather than a patchwork team.
.
One of the problems I have with Slot is his constant moving of team players to compensate for one injury. Right fullback out injured, so instead of risking bringing a right fullback from 18-21’ we move Szibo, then someone else to his spot, then someone else to that spot. 3-4 changes for 1 position.
.
I believe it has a massive effect on the team.
.
Anyway great result and some intense play at times.

This perhaps feels like a one off, but credit where credit is due - what a great performance by the lads and the snarling Slot was a revelation in the technical area.

I think that’s largely fair, Wirtz and Ekitike took it in turns to pull left. It was a hybrid formation in reality. But because of the intent shown - it worked well.

Just watched the game back, clearly Szoboszlai was the top performer on the pitch. Salah had his best match possibly the whole of this season.

But I had to vote motm to Wirtz, playing a free role, finding the space, he was key to 2 of tonight’s goals. In the 10+ games left of the season I would suspect he continues to play exactly like that role, the little taps through in the dangerous areas, gonna be a nightmare for defenders to work out where he goes and what he thinks.

Such an intelligent player, he has to start!!
