Post Match: Liverpool v Leicester (ELC 22/12/21 7.45pm)

If City or United had made it this far, I’m sure they would have been delighted to reduce it.

it was a great reflex save, but the positioning was pure luck.

They’re making fun of something (foodbanks) which are a necessity, not only on Merseyside but across the nation. Leicester has it’s share of problems with unemployment and deprivation. They should be joining in with the “Fuck the Tories” chants, rather than taking cheap shots about it.

Feck em. They spent most of the game singing about our team and fans. Where we sang about our team all night except for “Fuck the Tories” in reply to their “feed the Scousers” chants.

He wasn’t half moaning about the ref as he thought Morton should have seen red I think Tyler should be careful in future as it is his 2nd yellow in as many matches

Any game played is worth winning, but up till the break that was looking a bit rough.
But great second half sorted that.
The highlights were Rodgers with a gob around his knees, always nice to see and the time wasting blowing right up in the Tories faces.Karma, writ large!
Seriously though, Keita isreally starting to show why he was bought, but hope he can keep fit.
Ox had a decent game, particularly in a difficult first half for us.
Kelleher continues to show he is a pretty decent No 2.

Surprised to see Kelleher at only 65%. Granted, he could have done better in the first half, but that covers a lot of people. Really turned it around…and people, he saved 2 penalties in a shootout.

That’s two more than even the Great Kasper Schmeichel managed.

YES!

Love it, what a night.

Almost ruined it by starting Koumetio though, I didn’t understand that move. All the others were understandable, but as soon as I saw Koumetio against the likes of Vardy and Daka up top, I immediately sensed trouble. The kid is simply not up to it and from what I know, he’s not deserving of a chance like that going by his games for the younger teams either. Not fair towards him, not fair towards us. Shouldn’t happen at this stage of his career.

Loved the reaction, hunger and atmosphere in the second half.

F*ck Leeds on Sunday, we’ll deal with that when we get there.

We were prepared to die and leave it all out there in that second half, I was so proud of the team at that time. It’s so sad that we have to trail 1-3 to start playing seriously in a game that gets you a cup SF at a packed Anfield.

Was a bloody better atmosphere than in most European games.

One of my favourite LFC games in recent times and I’m not joking.

These are nights when you show how big of a club you are.

On the other hand, his next match he will be fearless. Might be the right step, I am fairly sure Klopp would not have chosen him lightly.

I think that’s a bit harsh on Koumetio and Bradley. Both young. Both in a mix match side. I think that either/Both could come into an otherwise full strength side and look a lot more assured.

I don’t know if being fearless will make a difference. It’s not the first time he played for the first team. I’d just let him develop (if he does), avoid playing him in such games until he makes some further steps.

We’re away for the 1st leg of the semi final. Brilliant that they have to come to Anfield for the 2nd leg.

All in all a great game this evening. Jürgen managed the game perfectly. He managed to get minutes in legs, have a look at some youngsters and see how he can affect a game through subs.

It was a great atmosphere in the ground tonight. There were loads singing around me in the lower main stand. Probably some of the usual ST holders not being in the Auto Cup Scheme or passing their tickets on. The ones there tonight wanted to sing and back the team. No moaning about misplaced passes or sideways or back passing it. It’ll probably be back to being quiet on Sunday.

Great game in the end and the way the club fought back. Substitutions made a big difference. Deserved win.

Fair enough - but that still makes only 1 of the fist 11 playing at the end.

Fair enough. But the lad got us a half, and though down, not out of sight. From Klopp’s point of view, that is gold. I think we are underestimating the sheer impossibility of the situation that Klopp is confronted with, and the kid gave him 45 minutes Klopp needed. I think he can walk out of Anfield head held high.

In his defense, this was the only thing on the table for them to have a chance at this season - so may as well go all in.

Our first choice central defenders have had plenty of struggles against Vardy in recent years. He’s a pointy chinned witch! And a very good player indeed.

Koumetio will have learned a lot from that game tonight. And in a way it was almost a free pass, as no one is going to pile in on a kid trying to make the step up.

I’m certain the education from the game will continue on too, as it will all be broken down and analyzed, and turned into specific drills and things to work on in training sessions.

My bad about the Jones goal. It is great winning with the youth players, but my point was more about enjoy the cups instead of seeing them as hinderance. They are there to be won so why not try and win. Some of the most entertaining games in Klopp’s reign have been in the league cup. I enjoyed today more than I’ve enjoyed most of our games this season. The 5-5 against Arsenal was great, checking back to that first season he took over the 6-1 against Southampton was so good - Div’s first goal for the club, “ADAM LALLANA, HE’S WINNING 4-1” immediately score “ADAM LALLANA, HE’S WINNING 5-1” also hilarious it’s on the Southampton yt

For sure, part of why there is tension and excitement in these matches are the youth players that feature but also the fact that the games do matter. Not as much as a CL or FA cup knockout match but they matter. Its a great feeling running deep in these comps. They’re an easy way to generate good will and good vibes. Low cost high reward - no one will judge this season by the league cup but they’ll be happy about the run we’ve had in it; especially after tonight.
