I think its simply timing. The league and FA Cup games often take up space when games are coming thick and fast, and we’re often missing players. Even though our squad is strong, covid has hit us at an inopportune time this time round.
Lovely goal from Taki, loved that. Ridiculous that the next game is 2 legs, utterly insane. Hopefully back to Anfield South early next year though. Arsenal won’t be a push over with tonight’s team but hope springs eternal.
Normally don’t do midweek mid afternoon non-PL/CL matches at the Pub. Decided to take a few hours and enjoy the kids working hard to get us a little more silverware.
Not the usual size attendance for our matches, but a decent number still. Some of them left at halftime, believing it was done.
By the time those pens were being taken, we had the entire place—including those just there for the Christmas drinks—as loud and loony as if it was Istanbul.
Love this entire organization…what a blast!!
Leicester (and many other teams) are so stupid with time wasting against our boys. If they weren’t so blatant on wasting time, it would not be 6+ minutes. Serves them right.
I was out earlier today and missed the 1st half. Whenever I got the chance, I checked the posts on here…it read 0-2, then 1-2. When I got home, I saw the 1-3 scoreline. Immediately put on my Hendo kit from last year. Sat down and watched the 2nd half. My heart started to pound harder when we got back to 2-3 with Diogo’s beauty, then screamed with glee when Taki put us into penalty to decide the outcome.
Now watching the 1st half with a relax mindset, I do not think the younger lads did too poorly, as it was described in the pre-match thread. It was actually Leicester being clinical with the chance that they got though our mistakes…but thank goodness that LCFC weren’t clinical enough to put the match out of reach.
Ultimately, the good guys won. My 3 picks:
- Ox
- Caoimhin Kelleher
- Diogo
Wow, the noise at Anfield tonight!
After such a match, how can you not CARE-ABOUT this cup?
Was Gomez really as bad as some is saying? I think it might be a confidence issue with him, if there is even one. After all he has shown a couple of seasons ago that with VVD, he can cut it at the very top. I am thinking that if a bid of 30m and above comes in, he might be let go. Which I will be in two minds, because I would love for him and Konate to push Matip and VVD but as of now he might be thinking that he is way down the pecking order and I think he knows he is 4th choice now and might push for a move in summer if not winter.
So our 3rd stri… er 8th string line up beats leicesters Brodgers!
Ok took a penalty shoot out but that’s what Klopp had planned all along he even planned 3 goals each, just such a great manager. He didn’t even need Origi.
I know just a silly cup game but beating old Brodgers is worth it.
Slept. What did I miss?
Brodgers bus.
Still stuck in Konate’s pocket
And it never seems to work for him either. Just makes him look silly because he invariably dives the other way looking gormless.
Well that was a classic, clichéd “game of two halves”.
I didn’t think we were too bad going forward in the first half but the defence was a mess. I’m not blaming any individual. I just think there was a lack of communication and understanding between the players.
Second half was clearly much better even with several second choice players and no Mané and Salah up front. MotM for Kelleher as he managed to hold it in the first half and did well against some decent penalty takers in the shootout. I also thought Ox was good throughout.
Only other thought is that this gave us an indication of how we might set up during AFCON except we had Keita on, and he looked quite good. I’m just hoping we can avoid injuries for that one.
Gomez played as badly as someone who had been missing for months, came back, didn’t get significant minutes and then got injured again. His lack of playing time was painfully obvious in everything he did, especially in the first half.
He improved in the second half having Konate alongside him, as did the whole team when Keita and Milner also came on. And what followed was an onslaught in a rocking Anfield that no team can stand. That probably was rather weirdly the loudest it is been this season and the best atmosphere one could hope for.
P.S. Keita was sensational. If only he and Thiago could stay fit; they would have put the “workman like and unimaginative Liverpool midfield” nonsense to bed for good. Chamberlain is also making a claim for a starting role. He brings something unique.
P.P.S. Rodgers’ leaving Vardy on for half an hour with a hamstring injury says it all. His ego and short-sightedness are unparalleled. I wish he had got the Utd job.
So , presumably , Leicester will be going to City now with a second string side , and then back to fullest possible strength against us again at home. Fuck off Rodgers.
He still thinks he is charge here when used about 13 players in 13/14!
I saw hi lights this morning and seemed a exciting game, Kelleher should have saved the first goal, koumetio and Gomez not great but to come back from 2-0 and 3-1 was brilliant great to see Kelleher saving the penalties.
I can imagine the buzz around Anfield will be fucking epic, it’s going to really give us a lift through the christmas period.
Someone clearly forgot to tell the kop that it was only the Carebear Cup! Very enjoyable, nice to have some low jeopardy football to watch on a Wednesday night.
