Post match: Liverpool v Leicester (EPL 30/12/22 8pm)

Not a great performance. Defensively poor for the goal conceded. Wasteful on goal. Faes our lucky star. Three points nonetheless.

Trent was really good. Best I’ve seen him defend 1v1 in a long time.

Midfield is crying out for reinforcement. With Fab out today we looked so much worst, and hes been well below what he can do. Then you look at the bench or other midfielders, and there isnt really any real athleticism around. Melo, Naby, Jones and Ox are all made of rich tea biscuits.

Im far less concerned with our defence and attack. The defence will always struggle when the midfield is absent. Same can be said for the attack, whereby they dont get service.

Nunez was here, there, and everywhere again. Put in another solid shift, and appears to really be gaining a good raport with Mo. Once again he missed some good scoring opportunities (no sitters though). Hes causing havoc and getting chances and my gut feeling is that it will come.

Not gonna lie, im desperate for us to bring a midfielder in this window that is in the right age bracket who can come in and have an instant impact. I dont think theres any footballer (even Jude/Enzo) who could magic everything better overnight, but hopefully we can find someone…and sort the Jude one out for summer.

I have some sympathy for Faes. If anything could go wrong, it did, for him. I wish we could have scored our own goals but happy with 3 important points. But we should really have played better than this. Still, 3 points.

On the pair, Klopp said: “Harvey before the game injured Robo a little bit in our warm-up game. He hit him with the knee and the hip. Dead leg, could play butthen couldn’t play on.

“Harvey got a knock which was quite painful.”

Hopefully good news as I thought it was a muscle strain for Andy… hopefully not then.
And then Bobby and Fabinho back too hopefully

What Klopp said at the end of the game was the withdrawal of Fabinho before the game threw all his plans in the air his wife had a baby that is the kind of bad luck Liverpool have suffered throughout of 2022 boy will I be glad to see the back of that year I have just lost my mother after her funeral caught a chest infection and after a course of antibiotics I thought that was the end of my bad luck until I had a stomach bug gave me the shits for days I hope I last past frigging Sunday happy new year all

No idea what to say but no idea how this lot go from decent to shocking in 3 days.
So many bad performances…i reckon 9/11 were poor

Jurgen…please revamp this awful midfield. Thanks.

I agree totally tonight but sorry I’m not having that Villa one, before they turned up for 25 minutes the game could have been done and dusted and we reacted well once we got our heads in it after they had scored.

Sadly this is far too common and it really is a bit baffling once or twice you lose a guy before the game fair enough but not being able to cope every single time.

Bugger me that was positive for you, as you actually thought 2 were good :kissing_heart:

Not really arsed about the performance to be honest. Win games, keep us in touch with the top 4, hopefully reinforce a bit more in January.

Pretty ordinary effort for the most part, but the 3 points is what really matters, even if they were own goals.
Imagine Rodgers is not best pleased, with that.
We look like we do need to complete at least one signing in Jan,the midfield is looking suspect, at times.
But hey, we need to keep in touch and win a bit.

Note, Fab wasn’t even on the pitch today. You sure the problem was the #6 role? Because we looked pretty inept out there today with the captain playing there. I’d honestly rather have Thiago playing #6, he was fucking excellent in the tackle today and getting stuck in.

I really do feel that now is the time to try that double pivot idea. Advance the FB some more and get the wingers playing off them. #10 between the lines.

Or a 4-2-2-2 which is what it appears to be from where AOC has been located recently. About level with the most advanced mid and Nunez/Salah up high.

Really do realize how bloody valuable Sadio was, days like these

Why do we start out like we barely know how to pass the ball, let alone looking clueless as to what formation we are playing or confused as to who these other lads in red are?

No wonder Robbo looked completely out of sorts!

Fabinho wasn’t on the pitch this match. But we’ve seen too many instances where he gets swamped by a midfield overload especially during a counterattack. This has especially been the case this year as most sides have done that against us.

We have sorta been playing a 4-2-2-2 this season to get over the weaknesses with a double pivot of sorts… Still doesn’t seem to help that much. Hopefully fabinho is sharpish when he returns to the team and we can then start the next match with a rather more typical 4-3-3. Brentford will pile the bodies in the center otherwise and we’ll have a tough time

3 points, TAA, Nunez and Keita from the bench the only positives.

I do wonder what they were doing in Dubai, it’s hard to believe that they were training, based on what we’ve seen since the restart. We look worse now than we did before the break. We are more vulnerable now than we were two years ago when we literally had no CBs.

It’s not just the lack of fresh legs either. We start most games half asleep. Their goal was unspeakably bad defending; one of the worst under Klopp. I can understand the lack of freshness and intensity but the lack of organization and awareness 10 minutes in is inexcusable.

We got extremely lucky to come out with 3 points from a game that we deserved absolutely nothing from but luck won’t last forever.

I wouldn’t be too bothered if we were grinding these wins here and there while performing better in most of the other games and winning convincingly. Neither are these 1 goal margin wins like our title winning season when it felt like once we have a lead, it always felt that there won’t be many chances we’ll give away and see the game out nicely.

Most of the games we are winning are with either Alisson saving us many times or the other team being absolutely useless in front of our goal. Midfield seems to be the key issue. I thought we would look better after the WC break, and the team was adapting to the tactical changes, etc. and will have time to make up for the lack of preseason, but this is as bad as before.

Happy with the 3 points again, but these 6 could have easily been 0 points the way it had been in the first half of the season. Biggest positive is it isn’t which really gives us something to build upon. We look like a team still in transition and assuming this is how the rest of the season will look like would hopefully make watching our games less nervous for me.
