I think we made a very good Lille team look very ordinary just like we did with Leverkusen. We never got out of 3rd gear tonight.
Goal we conceded was terrible though. Ponderous build-up down our right-hand side, low cross into the box and the ball ends up in the net - I feel like we concede that goal every other game regardless of personnel.
Hope Jones and Diaz going off were just precaution.

Didn’t see the game so just the highlights today. That Nunez offside goal was ridiculous. He’s stood in an offside position just staring at the ball for about 10 seconds. Seemingly at no point did he think to quickly check if he was onside so he could be part of the play.
He’s certainly a unique player isn’t he?

Yeah, he had so much time just to get back onside. One of those stare in disbelief moments.

We beat the 3rd best team in France, riding an unbeaten streak of 20+ games without breaking a sweat. Tenacious fuckers too, they just wouldn’t give up.
Had it not been for Jones’ injury and the copycat goal we’ve conceded again, it would have been an almost perfect match. Particularly pleasing was the performance of Elliott, Endo and Chiesa. Nunez’s not so much. It wasn’t really his fault, everyone was looking for Salah but that offside goal was bad. He strayed offside and stayed offside without it ever dawning on him.
Anyway, we’ve secured qualification in the top 8 and will almost certainly finish first. We should have been going to PSV for tourism, but the pricks officiating Benfica’s game had different ideas.
