Which then begs the question why havenāt we any central midfielders?
I mean by formation and dedication. Szoboszlai essentially a converted midfield left, Macca essentially a 10, Gravenberch you say an attacking player so 10 as well.
No wonder weāre having problems.
Itās true. We do not have specialist midfielders in the first 11. I think the only true specialist CMs we have in the first team squad are Endo and Nyoni and maybe McConnell
In the title winning season our danger came from first the right wing, then the left wing, then from the central striker positions. The passing came from the fullback especially Trent. The midfield had a relatively light set of responsibilities so even three converted attacking midfielders could play as Centre midfielders.
Now, all of those dangerous elements have been lost because of time, transfers, and sadly a death. And the replacements havenāt yet taken to the levels of the predecessors. Therefore, the midfield is suddenly in sharp focus.

Imagine what he could have done with a footballing brain!
Edit necessary after reaction, @koptician:
Iām using Notasuperfanās words for Grav, to stress the madness of calling him a player with no footballing brain. I thought it would be obvious after the discussion, but not too sure after seeing you āsadā
.
If he had the midfield nous of, say, Gary Mac, he would be a monstrous player!
His nous is just fineā¦
The mistakes he may have made, I know players considered geniuses to have done before him.
Consistency is what he needs. If he brings his a-game every time, heāll be monstrous enough.
Itās because weāve been an average team for over 18 months. Over-rated players, no discernible style of play and a quite frankly diabolical recruitment process.Thereās no mystery to it.
This is where Klopp was a genius. I would criticise how he always moved attacking players back into midfield. The thing is he made it work. I presume by insisting on a minimum effort. With that and a couple of great match winners we were feared. As it is itās hard to see us being feared for the foreseeable future. Iraola is going to have to dig deep.
Yeah, we really need a CM who is comfortable playing deep.
Right now he is essentially an one-trick pony with only turning and ball-carrying skills.
As Souness said, ball-carrying is overrated as an attribute for midfielders.

Are you still in France SixpenceNun?
If you are ask where your staying to change your sheets
.
Oh itāll be best to ask them if they have changed your sheets later in the day.
100%. Another club, for example Chelsea, would have surrounded the ref re the first yellow and, if he dared to give the second, would have probably ensured at least 2 more sendings off by milking chanllenges with increasingly agricultural challenges in between. Ever since Klopp weāve been setup to just take it on the chin and keep trying (sentiment that is perfect for young players and those playing in a fair competition) which only emboldens the cheating. Iāve been saying for years that we should put someone other than the manager up as spokesperson and very clearly and directly accuse the officials of bias each and every time there is a decision that goes against us - teams like Arsenal under Arteta (who was no doubt educated when part of the cheaty setup) are constantly doing this to try and game how they are treated re free kicks etc. Alongside that running a commentary on each ref and then publicising private eye details of their lives/weekends/dirty habits etc. What we are ācompetingā against is autocratic rulers who think everything can be corrupted by their hydrocarbon filth.
Vas te faire enculer! TĆŖte de noeud! (Bugger off dick head)
Fully agree with this. Iāve just written yesterday off as a farce involving a sham team. Weāll find out over the next few weeks how this team are shaping up
Yes it was like putting a straight jacket on him Araujo was terrified of tackling anyone after that and guess where the cheats attacked at will and scored.
Kavanaugh was itching to penalise us at every opportunity all game.
I donāt know what to make of the performance. We were on top, red card, then it felt like a performance from last season. Munoz reminds me a lot of Diaz in terms of his constant never say die attitude and willingness to take people on.
The fact that we looked the better side with so many players missing prior to the red card should not be overlooked.
There was an old lady who was quite poorly on the train to Liverpool sitting adjacent to me. She was apologetically coughing her lungs out.
I may have picked up a bug from her.
