Post match: Liverpool v Man City (EPL 11/10/26 4.30pm)

Not one of them could knock the skin off a rice pudding.

Yep. Poor recruitment. Great players. Just not balancing a side. I think I should watch the game back but do not want that torture.

Watch upto the red card then turn off.
My son missed it live, saw the score and said he won’t bother. I said the same to him.
It was a match where we showed real progress then just crumbled after a big blow.

Was it a red? Or did we get fecked.

It was 2 yellows for 2 clumsy challenges. The first was very dubious the type that if the player hadn’t twisted his own knee wouldn’t have even bought a free kick. It was the usual very poor refereeing.

Shame because we were on a good way to at least not lose that match, certainly not 0-3, but possibly nick it.

Red card changed the game massively, although it was also a little bit disappointing we then conceded 3 and looked like we could concede more.

A combination of losing a few players and that big moment when we lost Gravenberch.

Other than that I remain relatively positive, there were some good signs when we were complete. Looking forward to upcoming games and hopefully a bit of luck with injuries.

Yesterday was just not our day.

THERE WAS NO CHALLENGE FOR THE FIRST ONE!
Grav clearly pulled out of a challenge and Anderson went down 3 seconds after the non-contact. If anything it should have been a yellow for Anderson for simulation!

And there were at least 5-6 challenges on Koumas, Munoz, Grav that were very similar to Grav’s second that weren’t even given as fouls.

Yes, my point is addressing the reason why we crumbled. It is the moment when you understand that cheating has beaten you. Its a psycholgical moment that must have a wearing effect.

Yup, happens against the other 18 sides I’d be genuinely questioning but with all that and then frankly two soft yellows I’d probably hit a similar frame of mind.

We played well up to then and matched them as good as any other side this season.

Also 8th minute booking for dissent on a player so key to defence was already concerning not to mention Haaland does the same thing on Grav and he basically goes yeah alright.

Watching on, I just started laughing when Grav got sent off.

It’s all just surreal. What can you do? What’s the point?

I guess Iraola could have maybe brought on Nyoni immediately as we were a midfielder short.

Then again Araujo was on a yellow (for asking for a yellow…even though none of the City players who asked for yellows got one on them). So maybe he could have told someone else to double up on Doku with him.

I don’t know.

It’s all starting to seem pointless.

Ignoring yesterday for a moment. We have now gone 5 home league games without a win. There no longer seems to be a fear factor for teams coming to Anfield. That is concerning…

Disagree. Man City were rattled from the beginning. They were getting into scuffles with our boys, misplacing passes, getting annoyed at each other. Virgil was up for a fight. The amount of noise that the crowd generated visibly affected the cheats.

When a ref does what Kavanaugh did then what can you do? This should have been our springboard to starting a new streak at Anfield but the ref handled that for his employers.

I did say ignoring yesterday…

Anderson clearly twisted his knee and didn’t simulate anything. How he twisted his knee is something I couldn’t tell you, these things happen with or without contact.
Grav was close at the time that’s all and might have instigated a reaction on behalf of Anderson.
Normally something a ref would wave play on for imo.

As a general comment about Grav I like to see him make that little more effort to get in to better positions to make his challenge, he pulls out a lot or doesn’t even put the player he’s tracking under enough pressure for my liking. A little lazy.

Right but then how is it a foul let alone a yellow card on Grav who clearly did t even touch him?

I haven’t got a clue!

The spine is growing quite quickly imo. Considering the fact that we were 100% the underdogs in this game, our lads were fantastic I thought. Despite of being second best in terms of pure quality on the pitch, our lads gave them a real match, and deserved to take at least a point from this game. We were solid at the back, strong in midfield and our forwards worked their asses off to press Cheaty high up on the pitch.

The two yellow cards for Grav (and the rest of Kavanagh’s laughable ‘performance’) aren’t only a joke, they are a clear sign of what we already suspected since long, and know for good since two weeks or so : this league has become a playing ground for cheaters and corruption.

Our implosion after the sending off was very unfortunate. Iraola hadn’t the time to reorganize the team, as the first goal came immediately after we had been reduced to ten men. Could we have defended better after the 0-1? Sure, but it’s hard to defend against eleven in-form world class players applying pressure when you are already gassed, playing against 11 + 1 and reduced to ten men yourself. I for one can’t blame them for that. They’ll hopefully get up quickly and continue their common growth into a competitive unit.

It’s his makeup. He is at the core an attacking player with the ball. He does the other, more defensive stuff only because he has to as a midfielder. It’s not really his thing. That’s why his body positioning is frequently so awkward when he is trying to put a challenge in.

His heart is not in it.

@Notasuperfan I know many of us have been on Grav’s case especially this season and rightly so.

But it feels like you viewed his performance through the prism of previous performances and not for what it actually was.

He started off superbly with a slick turn with I think three Man City players trying to stop him but failing. Yes he did hesitate with two passes that means Munoz didn’t get a direct run at goal and another time he stopped and turned back because he didn’t decide on forward options quickly enough. But then he got on with it. And especially the beginning of second half he was probably our main goal threat.

I thought he was comfortably our best player
