Post match: Liverpool v Man City (EPL 8/2/26 4.30pm)

We bossed them for about 20 minutes in total, they had double the shots on target and scored double what we did, we ended up with 2 defenders on the pitch and the goalkeeper up front , absolutely clueless by our coach and his presser afterwards was embarrassing, oh yeah and they played in midweek and we had 8 days for this crap performance.

Alison gifted them a penalty and then went on a walkabout that resulted in our MOTM being sent off.
Reminded me of the golden era of Calamity James.
A disappointing loss, but we went toe to toe City and we didnt get the rub of the green . Hey ho shit happens.
Whats really unforgivable is our recent performances at home against the relegation fodder. Thats why next years CL qualification is in jeopardy not because we imploded against City.

He is escaping a lot of scrutiny. His kicking game has gone to shit as well.

No subs until 85 minutes and takes off Kerkez lol.

noted.

let me know when you realise our bench isnt shit, Slot should rotate through them more as more game time means more confidence, and making subs, even if the player is a downgrade on paper, can keep the team fresh and change the game.

id ask you to start with why you think giving Rio 10 minutes for Gakpo, even in the context of this game, would be such a bad idea…i happen to know your answer though, given that you stated it a few weeks back…

thats why i thought (incorrectly) you were fighting a corner instead of commenting on the game at hand…

is there a reason why you decided to name freddie woodman in a post above, and not Endo, Robbo, Rio, Enrico or Curtis?

I didn’t go to the pub tonight, because of that result today. I’m saving a fortune this season.

How can Mo and Gakpo play like that and stay on the pitch.

always a bright side to everything if one looks hard enough

Exactly we could have been better off than Villa at this stage and then these matches sting but it’s ok, CL is still very doable. Instead we somehow drew to the likes of Burnley at home.

its cos the bench is shit. no options anywhere apparently.

Rio is 17 years old, full of promise, but his game right now is very much based letting him run at players without a lot of defensive discipline which will come later. If we are putting him on, then we have to accept that he is going to turn over position and the full back/midfielder will need to cover him. I don’t think that is really tenable against a team as good as City.

Because Woodman is our third choice Goalkeeper and he is only there because Slot is trying to fill out the bench. I’m using him as an example of how thin the options are for Slot.

Funny how the bench turned to shit once Slot got the job, but it was fine under Klopp.

They were both crap, but here is the issue.

Mac Allister was shit. Ekiteke, Wirtz, Szoboszlai and Kerkez and looked tired.

Slot in theory, could do them all - he could have had six subs today, as City used the concussion protocol for one of theirs.

But there is on the bench precisely one player he actually fancies. The rest are kids or players who aren’t good enough.

@Mascot you need a break.

What are you trying to prove?

noted on Woodman…leave that to the side.

ive bolded the critical part in the post above, fim not going to be condescending and point out that that doesnt happen without game time…we all realise that…

but in being a bit looser in posession (is he, in comparative moments though…i.e chasing the game, last ten minutes, what are his pass completion rates like vs Codys in same situation?) he also takes the game to a different place, he moves in closer to the box and can go either way around a defender… at home, vs THIS Man City team, i really dont think its a folly at all…

also, not to be pedantic, but the discussion is now moving from ’ the bench is shit, what can slot do’ narrative, to a ‘the bench isnt deep enough’ narative…no bench is deep enough with five first team players injured…but the existing bench is not shit, there were options.

I think those of us hoping that Arne Slot will leave and Xabi Alonso will come in may be disappointed, because Slot is likely to be given more time. Separately, with reports that this could be Pep Guardiola’s last season, Manchester City are pushing hard for Alonso.

Yeah, selling off 6-7 squad players, all of them are at a higher level in terms of match readiness than say, Nyoni, is certainly a choice.

Ohh, and Kelleher would have helped us big time this year had he stayed.

Isn’t that obvious since the forum started. :joy::joy::joy:

Didnt Klopp say its not the result that is important, its always the manner and quality of it?

Ive seen enough of this pedestrianism, and even in Oct, had to call it out to the swell of opposers calling, us few then, kneekerkers. Which im sure will be quoted back.

But this guy Slot hasnt got it. Im not also sure the dude above him, Hughes, hasnt either. Because its his plan ultimately and he would have had to sell it to the board to get the funding they splurged last summer. The consequences of this ‘plan’ have been disastrous, and today I think we lost next seasons CL money to boot. I bet Alonso thought to himself, what a fcker.
