I agree with you, but I also think it’s difficult to get him that time to develop in a side that is going into the last twenty minutes with the game in the balance every single week.
He refuses to use the squad players as he thinks they are not good enough, said we didn’t need January signings as we had enough cover, would rather put two keepers on the bench instead of a u21 player. Me thinks he ain’t got a scooby doo.

so in theory, he needs to rotate the squad, possibly six players could be rotated for fatigue reasons, but becuase he only has one option hes waiting till the 84th minute…

And that’s his call to make. If he thinks Endo and Chiesa are shit, that’s up to him. If he thinks Nyoni and Rio aren’t ready to be thrown into tough premier league games, that’s his decision to make. He is more qualified to make it that me or you.
The issue I have is that Slot’s opinion on Endo and Chiesa is not really a secret. I can see that from here, and I can’t pick up the phone to Slot. Hughes definitely knows that they are not wanted and not rated by his manager.
So why the fuck are they still here? Not only are they taking up a place in the squad, we are also maxed on non home grown players so there is little we can do in the market even if we wanted to.
i think thats the issue to me… i mean we lost the game anyway, so its not like we could get ‘negative points’… but ultimately, its pointing towards him ‘protecting’ the player…i think most people would rather see the courage to trust Rio, if he misplaces a pass, he’ll find out its not the end of the world…
the old ‘best way to teach your kids how to ride a bike is to let them fall off’
the seasons gone…(not in the context of its not worth watching, but in the context of us just not getting anywhere near what we had hoped in september)…giving minutes to players in critical games would be a massive goodwill way of saying to the team and the fans that we are working towards something.
if we are really going to progress in the CL… we need the likes of Rio challenging the likes of Gakpo…
i suppose, what im really trying to say, is that i really dont think its this massive risk people are trying to percieve it as being…and even if it is…what are we risking? 3 points we didnt get?

It was quite interesting that in this game we found it hard to get Wirtz on the ball. They seem to have set up to bypass him to a large extent. The few time he got on the ball, he was good as ever but somehow they seem to be one step ahead ofr most of the game.
The shame was that once we got the lead we did not go for it. We may still have lost, but we lost anyway.
Same goes for subbing. You could see we were retreating to our quarter towards the end of the game - a smattering of subs at 75-80 min would have given extra energy… But maybe we would have lost because we don’t have the (required)depth, well, we lost anyway. If nothing else we kill some time and stymie their gifted resurgence.
There’s seems often times to be a lack of nous about how we go about things.

We’ve done worse than this game, as you rightly noted but this one we should at worst have drawn…
Especially since for most of this game, we effectively controlled City defensively…
And this is what passes here as “perspective”…

Tbh I don’t understand the rules of football anymore.
I’ve seen penalties given because the offense carried on inside the box. I’ve seen penalties not given when a player has been wiped out by a defender/goalkeeper because the attacker got his shot off or the ball was deemed ‘dead’.
My gut feeling is we got fucked over again today but I wouldn’t put my house on it because maybe the rules have changed. Or maybe they haven’t. I just don’t know anymore.

@Mascot , so are you. But, lately you seem hell bent on maintaining the notion that Slot is a helpless victim of circumstances.
I agree with a number of your points (squad quality, injuries) but definitely not the strength with which you are doubling down on them.

To an extent Slot is a victim, of Hughes’ grandiose plans from last summer. ironically under which, the only decent deal he did was necessitated by the death of Jota RIP. To boot, this DoF has overspent, now lost revenue, and revised the principles that made us feared for the last 8yrs.
Now go back to 1974, when Shanks changed the guard to Paisley, we then at least had the nouse to know what you can change, and what you cant. We’ve been totally derailed and all for the naive ambitions any journeyman could get from a textbook. Our problems are systemic because everything isnt right.

I found that very annoying. Trying to use kidology to pull wool over the fans eyes.Feels like we’ve veered to the other extreme of MD+DoF being in charge of transfers. The question is, what if they’re not as good as advertised? We know Edwards is great….at Hughes’ job.
