No, I think they are perfectly capable of thinking and reacting for themselves. Which is exactly why surely if they are doing it over and over again, it’s not them that’s the problem.
I genuinely don’t understand why Alexander-Arnold is getting all the blame for the first goal when Gravenberch was goalside of the player.

Because Grav isnt public enemy number 1.
We all play poor passes and it is how you respond, Trent was like a 5 year old defensively on their 1st goal just ball watching
Grav at least put the effort in but wasn’t as sharp as normal defensively, but was mostly excellent in possession alongside Macca.
On the 2nd goal, it was where he was on the pitch, not RB as he kept vacating the space which was their main outlet throughout game.

Mate he was shite - worst player on the pitch by a country mile. . No two ways about that… He has been attempting the same 10 feet pass to Salah half a dozen times and lost the ball every occasion. Can’t he atleast play a 1-2 with a midfielder and then try it or hit a cross field pass which he invariably does? Even now he must be playing that pass had Slot not subbed him and we would have lost.

Yes, in hindsight, maybe Grave should have stayed with Martinez but Trent could easily have moved to cover Martinnez, i.e recover back to an orthodox RB posiition than just stand watching

With all the TAA talk, this has gone under the radar. TAA was the worst of a bad bunch. Apart from Bradley and Jota in their short cameos, no one came away smelling like roses. Error strewn performance, which made a very average side look like the better team by the end.
We threw away 2 points, which may prove crucial down the line due to our own mistakes.

I have done, but all you can say is that the manager tells him to do so and he can’t or is allowed to think for himself, even though he is the vice captain, when the manager agrees he was poor.
At least Grav was moving to close down a player, only thing Trent moved was his head

I don’t think you can say that any defender was anything but poor if they didn’t win any of their duels, can you?
The point we disagree on is whether his positioning was down to him or not. You tell me that they’re not robots, so quite clearly if he’s doing the same thing over and over again despite having the capacity to play differently, perhaps it’s not him that’s the reason?
@WeeJoe made an observation that he only came in more central in the second half, so perhaps that’s a tactical instruction too? Or just him trying to claim more credit as the star of the team so he obviously deserves his Real Madrid move?
It just simply boils down to whether you believe the players have the tactical freedom to contradict the manager.

I think people said that of Jones in the matches where Szoboszlai wasn’t doing well after Jones first came back into the team this season.
I think we missed players being collectively on it today, not any individual player.
