Post match: Liverpool v Man Utd (EPL 5/1/25 4.30pm)

Liverpool are the 𝗙𝗜𝗥𝗦𝗧 team in the Premier League this season to not make a single tackle in the first half of a footbal game, as per @Squawka :exploding_head:

Talk about Idiot posts

Probably wanted to avoid an early yellow.

Odd assumption that our Jan and Febs are always poor but under Klopp it seemed to be good/bad/good/bad

Assume some was related to AFCON but one doesn’t match up. Remember Rafa drawing two games during that period when we needed to catch Man Utd but I don’t think it’s a given.

There are 8 games as opposed to 7 (could be 9 but if we were to take say 6/7 wins and a draw or loss which we did in our quad challenge or last year then I think we will probably be in much the same if not better position.

our New Year’s Day game or first one after does seem to have a poor record mind.

Well to be fair you have vast experience in writing them.

Only saw the second half. Just not good enough collectively. Trent was bad but United targeted him and there has to be a collective effort to cover that. It really wasnt there as dudnal as TAA’s efforts were.

Still it could have been worse. Might be ok watching United claim to have turned a 16th corner

They could soon change their name to the Manchester Myriagons.

Goodness all a little tense in here isn’t it? We maintained our 6pt + 1 game lead at the top by the way!

All anyone criticising Trent today is saying is that he’s shite, Slot is shite and getting sacked, league is gone and fold the club. Why are we arguing!?

From you I take that as a compliment

Because sometimes bedwetting just isn’t enough.

This ManU is nothing but a show. And Anfield was the perfect theatre today.
Unfortunately we got caught up in the shaite show today and didn’t do enough to play our game at all times.

Out of Mo, Virgil and Trent, it seems that only Trent is suffering majorly from the contract situation. For a lot of the season he has been average, shit passing, shit crossing, terrible tracking back. On occasion he has been world class, just not enough. Today was one of his worst. Slot has to take some blame for keeping him on for way too long.

We played average at best, while manu played well above what they have delivered this season. Thankfully Arsenal didnt close the gap.

Take the point against game-raising cunts and move on.

We’ve kept the gap at 6 points (with a game in hand) and got one of our bogey matches out of the way - just the 2 against Everton left.

Thought Konate did really well coming back in difficult circumstances given the weather and opposition, Gravenberch and McAllister my other picks for MOTM.

On the downside there were 2 who stunk the fucking place out, one looks totally bereft of any confidence in anything he does and the other can’t fuck off soon enough as far as I’m concerned.

Not sure if anyone mentioned it but Trent’s cross with his weaker foot won us the penalty.

He has qualities we won’t be able to replace if he really leaves.

ManU targeted him and he was found out defensively again. Difficult conditions played a huge part but no excuse of course.

Slot should have take Trent off earlier but I would also ask why he sticked with 4 attackers on the pitch after we took the lead.

I am trying to find individual stats for Trent for past seasons, this season, and this game, as far as passing accuracy goes. It has already been posted that he made 0 successful tackles for a large portion of the game. My head says this is his worst game of the season as far as passing stats, and that this year is his worst so far for passing stats (since he has become an established player). It would be interesting to see if my intuition matched the stats.

I was watching it with a friend and it was uncomfortable. Disappointing performance and tendentious that we drop points against United when we are in a good place and they are in a bad one.
But it’s still a point and we are still in total control of the table !
In general, no worries. But this particular game was a poor one from Liverpool.
