Post match: Liverpool v Man Utd (EPL 5/1/25 4.30pm)

I wonder if there’s a possibility that whatever illness it is that’s hit a couple of them is now spreading throughout the squad. I know I’ve seen in passing some comments that it’s the cause of Spurs’ current lack of players.

Cold light of day…

Win the game in hand and we have a nine point lead over Arsenal. They will drop points, as will Chelsea. Forest may not fall away as people expect, but a result away to them will maintain a buffer.
It would need a huge improvement in City to go on a winning streak…

On yesterday, I thought it was worse than the Forest performance, insofar as we are further into the season and should be more accustomed to the style Slot wants.
We never had control, we had too many players not on their game and the weather most likely played a part.
But we didn’t lose ground to the pack.

On Trent, it was a poor performance, he should have been subbed after an hour. Simple as that. If Bradley wasn’t 100% then Quansah could have played RB. In honesty Trent was just poor.
At 2-1 we should have exerted more control. But we were sloppy and gave them hope.
The shite talk about Maguires chance is irrelevant as Zirkzee was offside.

Its a reminder that we need to keep a level till the end of the season. We need to consider Tsimikas and Bradley starting more games. Maybe using Endo/Morton more if we are comfortable in games.
We might need to think of a front five options including Chiesa, as Darwin offered very little yesterday unfortunately.

I was really dissapointed yesterday, like all on here. I never subscribed to the huge hammering we were going to give them, that was nonsense and most annoying.

Its cuntish that they got some bragging rights from this, but fuck them.

Surely you can console yourself with the thought that them getting a draw and their first goal at Anfield since 2018 is “bragging rights” for them?

Bragging rights :joy::joy:

Their best performance of the season got them a point to lift them to 13th. Our worst performance kept us top of the league by 6 points with a game in hand.

Even the most shameless united fan won’t be bragging after that

I remember watching the 3-3 draw in the pub years ago when Ruddock scored…
The Liverpool contingent celebrated like a win…showed how far the standards dropped.
Thats the same feeling they got yesterday.

See above

Even their captain was questioning why they couldn’t do that regularly…

Celebrating with their fans isn’t bragging

For me neither. When we were the underdogs, we used to do that to them on a regular basis.

Fine Joe.
Whatever you like.

maybe you asked that question, but it was a loaded question if you did…he was getting pelters for his performance…

having said that…ill post the following in the player thread;

my daughter brought it up that around the halfway point of the second half trent ended up in the hoardings in the attacking end ( we thought it was a corner, but it was a goal kick to UTD) and he grabbed his face, then he had the look in his face of someone who had been slapped…maybe hes hit his head?

i havent watched the game again but i dont remember really thinking he was stinking the joint out until the last twenty or so…

maybe theres something in that?

Forest fixtures are very tough in Feb-March. 23feb - Newcastle away, 26th feb - Arsenal home, followed by ManCity at Home, Ispwich away and United at Home. I am more worried about Arsenal. If they drop points against Spurs and Villa then they arent catching us. Both are home games but thats after they play NewCastle and United in Cups.

All these confident predictions halfway through the season.
Why can’t people learn?

Horrible match where we never got going.
A number of players were well below par.
Diaz was either invisible or giving the ball away, each time he was on the ball I had to shut my eyes, certainly didn’t nothing a central striker should.
Jones had about 2 good touches the rest of the time didn’t manage a second touch.
VVD very complacent and didn’t seems to lead the défense let alone the team.
Gravenberch possibly our best player on the day however for me hé looks very tired at the moment.
Trent needs help defensively and with everyone crowding the left side that wasn’t forth coming. Far too often hé is left out numbered and hé struggles against 1. Another match where Salah wasn’t coming back to fill some space and that always hurts us. Even so Trent is an essential piece of our puzzle, the number of times this season hé had linked up with Salah to win us the game is incredible.
Salah is our ‘leader’. When he wants it we score.

I like Conner Bradley. I really do. Feel he will suit Slot’s team.

However. Let’s do a thought experiment, and pull some number out my arse just to illustrate the point.

Over a course of a season, consider Trent playing 50 games vs Bradley playing 50 games.

I’d argue that Trent will raise the level of the team more (to the extent that when Pep splashes the cash next season, we can still out compete by having payers of the class of Trent, just like Klopp’s 90+ point seasons).

All players can have bad days. Trent had one yesterday. Yet Slot kept him on till the 88th minute (maybe Bradley could only play a few minutes or so, but there were other options, or tactical tweaks that could be done, especially after Salah’s pen).

So imo the ire all on Trent is not fair, when Slot could have made changes (and just to make it explicit, Trent had an absolute stinker yesterday).

I don’t see it as a loaded question since literally everyone was blaming him for that goal.

Totally agree with all of this and also worried about the pressure that would put on Conor. He’s obviously added to it by ‘bursting onto the scene’ with such fearlessness and ability, but he’s still young and will go through poor patches of form also

Conor doesn’t give a fuck about that. Ask Mbappe.

Yeah I posted this on his thread yday. Just making the point that he’s a young player and will hit bumps on the road in his development
