Post match: Liverpool v Man Utd (EPL 5/1/25 4.30pm)

Yes they targeted him but at times there were 3 versus one situations anybody would have scratched their heads as to what to do, but apart from Macca and Cody everybody else was still in holiday mood and assumed all they had to do was turn up. Now after this game I will be surprised they will find the right flaw to beat their (manure that is) next opponent.

Yes just like last year ETH thought he had turned the corner but just like Everton it was their cup final of the season everything else after that was shit.

It is also not fair on Slot either as if he had hooked him earlier he would have felt as if he was going to humiliate him, he was in a no win situation. When he took the early decision to hook Quansah previously he knew being so young it would not affect him that much.

yeah, I think the players came out after the season and said that Man United loss had affected them mentally

I know it’s difficult to play on a cold, rainy and windy Monday night at the Britannia but the boys struggled on a cold, snowy and rain Sunday night at Anfield. Onwards and up!

I dont agree with this, the team comes before the individual, also Trent surely knew he was having a stinker and must have expected that he would be subbed off.

Further to your point saying 3 v 1, more 2 v 1, did happpen at times but he wasn’t at the races 1 v 1. Regarding being overloaded, I do agree and that was a failing in Arne, because it was obvious to me sat in my armchair and he seemeed to just let it happen. Also Mo never helped him out and if Gravenberch was the one to help, then what was Jones’s role as he was never really central to help out defensively.

We definitely missed Szobo as he normally helps Trent a lot and does Mo’s defensive work.

Given how flat we were I did have a thought that maybe a few of the lads out there were not 100% healthy. We know Chiesa has been ill and Szoboszlai missed this game with sickness too. Could be that potentially some of them were trying play through the sickness and ended up being a little off from their best.

Seen in the Athletic that 8 of their fans have been arrested for tragedy chanting. I don’t know about anyone else who went the game but to my ears I heard none of that at all yesterday. I’m sure the arrests were fair and deserved but in terms of clear and audible singing in the ground I thought it was much much better than it has been.
I’ve not missed United at Anfield in over ten years and I can’t remember the last time I didn’t hear a single song of that ilk.
Every chance they have sang stuff and I missed it, so I’m happy to be corrected, but often it’s a response to our ‘Fergies right your fans are shite’ song or the when we sing ‘livvverpool’ they sing the same but murders, so you know to expect it and I never heard it once in the ground. Which is good and a nice thing to acknowledge.

I looked at the next two fixtures for the league and you could assume but actually they all have potential surprises in them.

End of the day we should have taken further advantage once we got it to 2-1 but we at least we held our advantage. Thats the worst you can hope for after every game week.

you dont see that picking out a moment during the game to defend TAA as opposed to discussing his game contribution is skewing the discussion?

lets all assume you are correct and have turned the forums opinion on that moment during the game…

now thats done, how did you think Trent performed for the rest of the game?

I think they’re well aware that arrests are in the offing now for any of that crap.

I just heard on the commentary of the Wolves game that Zirkzee was offside at the end of the game, which is what I suspected. I guess the narrative should probably be shifted from “Man Utd nearly won it at the death” to “Liverpool nearly won it at the death” with van Dijk’s header.

This is not true though and it is the perfect encapsulation of how reflex the criticism of Trent’s defending can be sometimes when we concede. This is his position right before Bruno passed the ball wide to Garnacho

He was there rather than where we’d expect him to be as RB because immediately before this frame Ibou’s clearance gave the ball straight back to United and left him caught too far out wide to get back into position. Trent responded appropriately by pinching in and temporarily covering for him. It seems pretty obvious people are reacting to seeing Ibou defending in the RB area and just reflexively assuming Trent was out of position and left Ibou to do his defending for him and sticking the boot in.

There were undoubtedly elements of his play that were bad, and his response and lack of defensive effort on the first goal after the turn over was unacceptable, and that warrants some of this criticism. This was not part of that though and it is potentially insightful into the extent of the ongoing criticism of Trent that so many are willing to pin this goal on him that maybe some of it is not based on sober analysis.

Correct Trent was outside of him and he was marking Garnacho, however, as Konate won the ball Garnacho moved wide and Trent just watched the ball rather than staying with Garnacho, Virg was already coming over to cover inside as he no one to mark.

As the ball was played to Garnacho Ibou then had to press him, and Trent was inside covering him which I have no issue with.

What my issue was that through the 2nd half he was inside too much and not in an orthodox RB position.

Also on that goal Man U were lucky 1st it was a scuffed cross that went through Ibou’s legs and if Amad had hit it cleanly Robbo would have blocked it, instead he scuffed it and it went through Robbo’s legs and dribbled in, this was the story of the game nothing really went our way all, every time a ball dropped from a header tackle it fell to them.

really mostly disappointed from the attitude of TAA and Jones for especially this game, because they should have been up for it against that sh**e team. I really hope that shite team get relegated and stay in the very bottom tier for eternity.

Not all our lot are angels. But for what its worth.

We stood up for Ronaldo when he lost his child. I’m just not sure United fans would reciprocate the favour.

Don’t want to make excuses on the playing conditions as it’s something which is equivalent for both the teams.

But the slowness of the pitch hindered us more and possibly reduced the quality difference.

Happens a lot in cricket. Possibly one of the few times I’ve seen it happening in football.

A normal day , perfect playing conditions. We would have beaten that lot … Easily.

And for someone like Trent who relies quite a bit on those passes , he just didn’t adapt to those conditions quickly enough.

And then you see Ugarte mishit a pass which somehow fell perfectly for the maguire’s missed / offside chance right at the end.

I haven’t heard any ‘turned a corner’ statements yet, only some ‘back on track’ drivel.

I is disappoint.

Considering who they have next it’s unlikely this mini revival will last a week.
