All games are unless they make no difference. Wish this cliche as tired as it is wouldn’t keep be trotted out.
I literally said the part about not being able to make a tackle or win a duel, didn’t I?
I don’t see how it’s incompatible to believe that he could have done the basic work better, and was letting the team down on that regard, but also that otherwise his positioning and general play was according to instructions.
Yes, but @Sportbilly1966 wasn’t talking about passing, but about positioning.
That one I can’t answer, because the only thing worse than our play today were the streams I tried.
We’ve got two cup games first, and the FA Cup tie against Accrington next week provides the perfect opportunity to manage players’ minutes as needed.
And you were saying it’s team instructions when every post I’ve made is about poor passing and I’ve not isolated one player.
Only Maca gets a by from me at 2-1 as he wasn’t being silly.
Some of the posts in the match thread were worse.
Mainly mine.
@redalways, all man united attacks were coming down his side ALL game, and in over 79 minutes he wins no duals or makes any tackles?
Mate that’s how the rot sets in. Same happened when we lost like 7 points advantage to City few seasons back. People were saying it’s atill 4 points lead after a poor performance and we lost the title. Once u take the foot of the pedal trying to accept dropped points the lead will evaporate faster than u gained
Just woke up.
Shit!
Go back to sleep, score will change again when you wake up
Are they going to get a penalty after the game? You never know with Utd.
Think wires might be getting crossed because I don’t think I’ve replied to you apart from that post?
I was talking specifically about positioning because that’s what @Sportbilly1966 and I were discussing. I agreed with your original post making the point about calm passing.
Trent was better defensively earlier in the season, when he held his position, but since he has started moving into midfield more, yes it could be instructions, he has gone back to being poor. Players also have to read situations and know when to do it.
Today Trent seemed to be avoiding making contact with their players in case he got injured.
Again, I go back to the point about this being a theme throughout his entire career. When he’s been given instructions to be more defensive he has excelled. He just keeps getting instructions to play further forward. Jürgen admitted as much, if I’m not wrong. Alexander-Arnold himself has talked about how closely he’s been working with Arne on his positioning and how important he found that, so I find it hard to believe that it’s not a tactical thing.
Yeah obviously because he wants to keep himself ready for that imminent move to Real Madrid, right?
Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister, talking to Sky Sports, said: "The result is not good enough. The performance was not as good as we wanted but at the end of the day it was a fair result.
"We didn’t play as we wanted and conceded too many chances and had opportunities to score more goals.
"The effort was there, the mentality was there because we came back but when you’re 2-1 at 75 minutes you have to defend better and we couldn’t do it so we have to think about what we did wrong and move
Do you really believe that?
Yeah could tell from his body language.
Anyhow we move on, nothing has changed and perhaps Man Utd might improve and take points elsewhere though I’ve got my doubts.
Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: “It could have been a lot worse if we are absolutely honest with ourselves. They had a big chance in the end that could have been a lot worse than where we are now. I’m definitely disappointed with dropping points at home but it is what is and we have to move on and we will.”
“We found the 2-1 and then it is about trying to manage the game and keep the ball for longer than three and four passes. We lost the ball too easily at times and then we were more open than we should have been. We’re not perfect, we’re still learning and we have to learn from this as well.”
On whether they came into the game underestimating Manchester United: “That’s all the media. Media talk. It’s nothing to do with us. We prepared for a very tough game like we have seen today. We didn’t think any of that.”
On being in a strong position when you look at the league table: "We look at the next game, we don’t look at the league table.
