Post match: Liverpool v Msn City (EPL 3/10/21 4.30pm)

Was a strange game. Felt like we played tight, We seemed fixed on a game plan that we weren’t fully confident in. .

Feels slightly disappointing.

The league and champions league is hard enough to win as is. The club have done well and we have a top team no question. That said there’s always been room for improvement and there is now.

We’ve not done that well in domestic cups. We’ve not always had the depth one would like to compete on all fronts. Yet we have arguably the best manager in the world and certainly some of the best players. Ultimately I feel the club could do more to win trophies.

Agreed we should have won that particular league title.

Tyler is a proper wanker when commentating on Mo’s goal he has to mention about Milner not getting sent off. Knob.

A point is a good result after that first half. Said it during the game but it’s clear as day we don’t have enough quality on the ball in that midfield

It felt like we played without a midfield today, they were terrible, and were imo easily the worst three players on the pitch.
Jones wasn’t in the game till very late, and then barely made a difference.
Hendo was all over the place, but in the wrong place. He was pressing way, way to high, and when he was bypassed, he was hopelessly out of position.
Fab played in slow motion, and then in ultra slow motion when we needed at minimum at slow motion in order to win the game.

Virgil was average.
Matip was fantastic, he basically played defence and creative midfield at the same time simultaneously. If it wasn’t for Mo’s assist and wonder goal, he would have been motm.
Robbo below par, especially passing.
Milner left out to dry.

Mane good, nice goal.
Mo fantastic (motm just slightly above Matip). It’s a shame, his goal deserved to have 3 points attached to it.
Jota and Firmino poor.

Ali saved us from what would have been a miserable first half.

A point actually feels lucky if you take the entire game into account. We could have won, but we also could have had a bigger hiding than we had last year.

I’m not sure about this. I ended up voting for him behind Salah and Alisson, but he was a distant third. It’s more a reflection that his distribution through midfield was great, and there was really no-one else who stood out.

I keep going back to the way city were able to repeatedly attack his side of the defence and create overloads on Milner.

When I was watching it, it seemed suspiciously unnatural and in conflict with the laws of physics.

You can make the choice: a club run by petrodollars, or one that’s financially sustainable and with Klopp at the helm.

Klopp chose our club because it was a club for the fighter, the underdog, that’d was similar to his first (second) love Dortmund. He didn’t want a Man City squad. Even if the club has the money (which it does).

And before you start comparing our spend with clubs that are not Man City, United, Chelsea, remember that the clubs spending outside their means like Arsenal are only doing so because they are absolutely desperate to be dining at the top table again. That was us 3-4 years ago. We are now at the top table. With a top level (almost certainly the best in the league) squad. One shithouse performance and draw against the second best team in the league doesn’t change that.

Just put your foot on the ball Fab…he’ll foul you and its a pen…if only.

I think that screenshot is misleading. The first shot I’m sure is showing the ball coming his direction. It’s before he has it under control or had had any touch on it.

I said earlier it’s easy to analyse after the fact and I’m sure Fab will too as he’ll know he needed to take that on the half volley or even after the first bounce, or off his left. Anything but what he actually did.

100% true but fat people who never done any kind of sport will never be able to understand that.

Ball comes with speed. Fab never really had it completely under control.

So difficult to stop that ball with the right foot and finish with the same. Think the ball did another strange bounce after Fabs first touch.

Rat Boy in true cowardly fashion named joint MOTMs. On the day Mo Salah cemented (if that was needed) his absolute quality that Manc fuck couldnt just be gracious enough to name him MOTM.

Before the match I thought that if the lads could stay both focused and composed we’d weather it.

Unfortunately they didn’t and we ended up sharing points. We did score twice against a fairly decent side.

Fortunately it’s early in the season and we have another break to catch our breath and work on fitness issues. Given the circumstances I think we were fortunate to walk away with a point.

I don’t think it’s as bleak as some have suggested. If I were a City/United/Chelsea fan I’d be asking questions given the amount of “stars” on their benches.

If the lads can stay healthy, focused and composed we’ll be competitive. It doesn’t look like anyone is going to run away with it this year.

West Ham and Brentford are capable of putting sticks in the spokes. Spurs, Arsenal and Brighton look to disrupt.

Plenty of time left in the season…

Heads up lads!

YNWA

P.S. Since we have a couple of weeks can we focus on getting Mo a contract? It’s kind of important right now…

Depends what way you look at it , look at their second goal Alisson has it covered but it deflected off Matip and into the net and then Fab has a great chance to win it, so it could have been 3-1 to us , looking at the stats 2-2 was a fair result, 3 shots on target each 48-52 % possession.

The positive to take away from this is prior to the game City had only conceded once.

I think we can say our scoring woes are sorting themselves out. It the influence of the midfield that is concerning me now.

Tbf I could name far more goals that were aided by a selection for us over the last few years.

Swings and roundabouts.

Not relevant to today’s game though.

Watching motd and I still Cant believe how poor we were defensively on our right city’s left .
Time and time again city entered the final third and had the freedom on that side. Gomez came on and he couldn’t seem to see that side of the pitch either.

It’s taking VVD time to get back to his levels which has to be expected.

Jude. Think how good we’d be with you in there.
