Post match: Liverpool v Newcastle (ELC 16/3/25 4.30pm)

Honestly do you think we can bottle the league? Scared mate. Tough games ahead especially the one against Arsenal, Fulham ,Chelsea and Brighton away. With no Trent Salah is getting cutoff and our mid has been poor last 4-5 games. Jota is so short on confidence. Nunez is Nunez and Gakpo isn’t fit. Thank goodness for the international break.EPL is all that matters

I reckon he’ll get another game or two if we have the league wrapped up early. Wouldn’t surprise me at all if he starts the Palace game, for example.

It shouldn’t be able assigning blame. Perfection is not a reasonable bar to set in football and throughout history even the very best of sides lost some.

Or anywhere else.

what we need is rest… boys are knackered… mental and physical fatigue. one game a week will do them a world of good. playing that same midfield three has finally caught up with us…

We are spoiled with Alisson, but every keeper gives up a soft goal once in a while. It was just terrible time for us here. He’s a second choice keeper here because of Alisson, but he would be a solid first choice keeper for a midtable side.

I think those two games against Paris might have had a telling effect. We’re maybe not as good as we thought we were and now the doubts have started to creep in. That performance today was simply not acceptable. Thank fuck we’re twelve points clear in the league.

A team for whom this was their season against a team for who this would have been a nice to have.

They played like they were trying to break a 70 year drought. We played like a team coming off the back of 120 minutes earlier in the week.

There will be the knee jerkers out in force complaining the team didn’t try or we need to tear the squad up and spend like Chelsea in the summer. Reality is you win some and you lose some. Was a poor performance. We’ve dug ourselves out of these spots throughout the season but couldn’t today.

Lack of outlets in the fullback areas hurt us. Midfield got out played and forwards were feeding on scraps.

No need to go overboard. It’s disappointing but unlike most, we’ve still got a bigger prize to play for. Pull some from the international break. Get as many rested up as we can and then smash Everton into the sea in a couple weeks time.

Yes can easily lose the league.

12 clear…27 to play for…and we look on our feet.

Worst performance all season long, probably the worst Liverpool performance in a final ever. It feels like we didn’t win a 50-50 or a second ball all game long. But the players shouldn’t be blamed. They gave whatever they had, which wasn’t enough.

This abysmal showing for me rests 100% on Slot’s shoulders. The results of his stubbornness and refusal to rotate are showing now. Klopp was saying at last year’s final that we needed fresh legs to win. That’s a lesson that Slot still has to learn in England.

Chiesa is the only positive and Joelinton is a horrible cunt.

Maybe. But theirs is a midfield, like PSG’s, you would expect to be able to outwork our 3 even if their tanks were at full. That is how 3 of our last 4 games have played out now (2 against PSG) and we’ve struggled. I dont think we address that by adding more legs there, because the chemistry of this group is good, but we maybe need to get smarter about how to play in those situations. And we definitely need more help from the forwards who make sure the ball sticks when we get it forward to them. 2 of our 3 today we’re like trampolines in that regard today.

Disappointed, but can’t let a bad week define a season where we’re on course for #20.

front three have not been in it for a few games… maybe try chiesa and see how we do… dude is hungry

No, we’re plenty good. Two matches against a top side on great form - one that we won away, mind you - do not supersede eight months of outstanding play.

You don’t deserve a league title. Acting like it’s the bare minimum.

First and foremost fairplay to Newcastle, they were the better team.
As for us, it was an insipid performance. Player selection didn’t help. We never moved to second gear.
Now we need rest and concentrate on the lwague.

Newcastle put a lot into the game and they looked like they wanted it more. It coincided with a tired Liverpool team, well below the level we were hitting a few weeks ago. The ref gave us nothing which didn’t help.

I hope we see more of Chiesa in the run in. We look poised to make a couple of changes in the attack. On today’s evidence Chiesa looks like he should be here next season.

Salah was peripheral, which is unfortunate. He wasn’t great against PSG either. He has had a great season but he might be coming to the end at Liverpool.

It will be interesting to see what changes we make.

When all is said and done, if Slot’s first season ‘just’ gives us the Premier League title, well done that man. It has been a bad week but we will be happy with a league title come the end of the season. And you would have to think Slot is learning so much about the players he has. When it’s smooth sailing you learn some things, but usually adversity teaches important lessons, and while it stings right now, it will serve us well in the long run.

Up the reds. YNWA.

Some of the subs were late, we needed goals and attacking guile and quality and we brought on Nunez, Mo was non existant, did nothing and stayed on, Diaz works his socks off and gets brought off,

Elliott was the spark and Chiesa seems to have good movement and finds space, but hasn’t had a look in especially when some of our forwards are misfiring.

Gutted, hate us losing, but the league is what I want.

Arne will learn, it isn’t just tired legs but playing week in week out where every game matters that is mentally taxing, to compete on all fronts, rotation is a must.
