Fairly easy to support and make light of an un-Thiago-like display.
Not sure how he can be made a scapegoat though when we won
We love him, but he was off tonight
Thiago was lambasted by some last season and a lot of it was bullshit comments after listening to ‘pundits’ and he is still jumped upon by some, not saying by you as you are a newish poster.
Like he was against Wolves …
We should just spout bland corporate talk when asked about “head injury” = just say it should be taken seriously, and also play to the whistle.
Klopp mentioning people gaming the situation is absolutely true, but imo that should be discussed at a later time. Otherwise, it will get overblown by the media as usual. Just look at the Joe Cole and Jenas discussion.
Geef krediet waar het moet
Thiago plays deep but plays a more expansive game in that position then what we’ve had in recent years. So it’s a trade off. He’s gonna get caught out at times, and being so deep, will offer up a chance.
For me, currently, Fab, Henderson and Thiago are our first choice combo.
I thought Dean should have stopped it. Player on ground holding his head before cross came in, not like he knew we would score a goal. Never know if player bumped head on ground after collision or if brain just bounced around in his skull from whiplash from fall. If that was against us I’d be fuming.
But that’s on Deano- Jota did exact right thing, let them sort it out after.
For the actual match, thought Konate played his best game. TAA was majestic, Salah and Jota dangerous throughout.
She really is the best
If play had lasted one more second, Dean would’ve rightly blown the whistle for a potential head injury. Was such a short time from it happening that a little benefit of the doubt helped us in that situation.
This is creeping into a lot of games now, players feigning head injuries just to stop the play, when their team is under pressure. I don’t like it, it’s cheating plain and simple and puts referees in an impossible situation because most feel obliged to stop the play. The player then miraculously gets to his feet and play continues. I’d like to see yellow cards given for it.
Konate and Matip good, front 3 good, Henderson quite good.
Poor mistakes by Thiago early on could have seen us 2 down. Chamberlain was hopeless in that midfield role, hiding away from taking up good positions. Keita was a massive improvement.
A fairly boring 3-1 really. Second half was a terrible watch, but we’ll take the points.
In the past, football was behind the times with head injuries. Now, a safety first approach is there, which means there will be false negatives. And then, as with any situation, some teams will push the boundary and take advantage. See Raul Jiminez coming back onto the filed of play to waste time and force the ref to stop the game.
That’s exactly the sort of stunt which should be punished.
I like you think it is a tradeoff with the way he plays and it seemed after the 1st half he played more within himself and seemed to affect our forward play as he started playing too safe.
Yes, in the first 30 minutes, Ox was positioned 5 yards from the centre forward position, and the game passed him by both offensively, where he didn’t link up as was so high (and also as he wasn’t on the last shoulder, any crosses coming in, he was in no position to get to it), and didn’t help out defensively. In the last 10 mins of the first half, he started dropping back at times, and make a couple of nice passes.
Of course, his high position meant the Newcastle defence were fully occupied, but if he was going to stay that high, he should’ve been making near post runs when the ball is out wide.
So use retrospective Video evidence to punish those that go down holding their head when there is no contact and it will stop the cheaters.
Oh, I meant those morons “back to the studio”. I was not clear!
great win 3 points and we move on .
having said that ,we are bit naïve and sloppy, they could have a penalty from nothing and the game would have been 2-2. I just don’t get it , why we need to have two full backs bombing forward and being exposed to counter attacks when we are up 2-1 . Anyhow 3 points Kieta and firmino is back all good
