Post match: Liverpool v PSG (UCL 11/3/25 8pm)

I just had a bad feeling throughout the game to be honest. You’re always hoing to regret missed opportunities like that. If we could have only grabbed one.

To be fair they are the best side I’ve seen this season. Oil cheats hurts though.

Which of you is this?

Agree he did well.
The others came on and did nothing much.

I am not too fussed now about the result. Cracking 2 games and we were just pipped by an excellent team. If Villa can’t win it then wouldn’t mind PSG.

However I don’t like the new format one bit. Too many games and I much prefer the home and away format in the group stages. Can’t see too much advantage in our putting the big effort into finishing first but must confess I have no idea what criteria they used to decide the last 16 match ups and can’t be bothered finding out now.

Not to the standards that we once would have expected of him, no. But after Trent went off, Salah barely touched the ball outside the wide area just across midfield. He dropped out of the game almost completely.

I think Ramadan was a factor, but Salah has had a version of that game many times this season - and scored 2 goals in a couple of them. Five years ago, he was relentless in creating chances for himself with dynamic runs. These days, he has at best 2 a game.

Not happy this morning…only listened to commentary…however many times the ball was in the area…however many times we hit the post…it wasn’t for us…agree the format needs dealing with…so onwards to Sunday…rest today boys get your legs rubbed…and lets battter the Barcodes…

Meh… I genuionely thought that it would be one of these great European nights.

No-one can really be blamed for this not happening, but fact is: our lads weren’t good enough to get through to the last eight, and that is disappointing.

A night I’ll quickly forget. Going out to the freaking Qatar oil cheaters… :dotted_line_face:

I feared the worst after our previous two games where we struggled to score only two goals in open play. We were very lucky to come away from Paris a goal up when we could have been three or four goals down and then last Saturday when we scored just the one from open play again against bottom of the league Southampton. We look a very tired team just through the amount of games that we have played. Hopefully we will get some downtime after Sunday and come home fresh to wrap the league up.

Odd, commentator I had said he had never taken one at Senior level. Must have just checked league and Europe.

No just full of shit.

A 2004-born man with his shirt tucked in, there is hope that this world isn’t going berserk.

Being honest, I thought Salah had a poor game overall. In fact if you take last night in isolation you couldnt be blamed for thinking he was very ordinary.

I’m guessing he just had the stats from open play rather than penalty shootout.

I normally get a really good feeling when we go to pens and I also felt the players and crowd didnt believe it was going to happen either.

For those feeling downhearted, just remember that we are 15 points clear at the top if the league. You may want to be reminded what that means by a footballing expert far wiser than me:

Salah was never much of a threat either leg. First game he barely got a kick, and he was dominated. Second game he saw more of the ball, but the old explosiveness has gone.

He has been having a brilliant season but it is not a forgone conclusion for me that we offer him a blank cheque. Ideally he signs a new deal, but not at any cost. I think we will see diminishing returns moving forward. Not precipitous, but it’s a tough conundrum to weigh.

To my mind we need pace and power on the wing, and a clinical central striker. In addition to other changes we anticipate.

few mates text me this morning and said are you gutted etc.
I said yes and no
Yes because us and the CL have a really good history
But no because in August every year our mantra is to win the league first and foremost.
Anything else is a nice bonus.

Disappointing result. Good game. Let’s move on. YNWA.

It’s a strange one because we are so far ahead in the league that it feels almost flat right now. But It’s a brilliant achievement!

The CL was not to be. We played at a high level and would have had too much for most teams, but not this PSG. Enrique is bringing Barcelona stuff where everyone is good on the ball, and merging it with pace, power, young age, and the Qatari check book. They will be a force for years to come.

Next for us is the cup final coming up. Ice baths, rest, get a team on the pitch and hopefully beat the barcodes.

By the end of the season we will be delighted with what we achieved.

Was just going to say that it is a totally different thing over here.

One’s favorite team gets only one chance to win an overall championship each year. The blessing (or curse) of our friends across the pond, is that one can be totally gutted after yesterday (as I was), then five days later play for another chanpionship….all the while riding a comfortable lead for yet another.

Can my emotions take it?!
