I started watching cos I saw they were losing the ref was shite gave 2 none pens
Iâve still been stewing away on this.
All my opinion but this fixture reminded me of football in the late 80âs early 90âs. Lots of huge effort, running etc. from British sides but the European sides were superior tactically and individual skill levels. They were just better.
Itâs a bit weird given we are packed with overseas internationals ourselves but it reminded me of football at that time. Skills wise we were not at that level.
PSG were the better side imo. I dont like how theyâve built that side or what the club stands for, but they are damn good. Thereâs more than one in that squad Iâd take at Liverpool.
I donât think that it was their skills that made the difference, but their superior intensity and physicality. We werenât as fresh as they were and it was obvious even in minute details like taking a touch too many, or hitting a pass a fraction of a second too late.
To put it differently, they wouldnât have stood much of a chance if we had faced them at our peak in mid December.
Iâm actually not sure how to take Arneâs remarks, because he seems to suggest that we were pretty much on par with them for intensity overall, but yet also says that they went through because of their intensity.
Thats a fair shout. I would certainly say they were also tactically superior which our lower energy levels amplified.
I just remember having the same feeling from sll those years ago. This team was better despite all our huff and puff.
I think it has a lot to do with the sort of football teams play in their domestic league. If youâre up against cloggers every week and playing at 100mph like you have to do in the Prem then that will eventually reflect in how you play yourself. If youâre playing in the likes of the French league then youâll probably have more opportunity to play your natural game and retain your technical abilities.
Itâs why I think England struggle at test level in the cricket, all good players but theyâve lost the ability to apply themselves and build an innings because 80% of the cricket now is T20 etc shite where itâs all about smashing it all over the place.
Might be complete bollocks but thatâs how I see it.
Thinking about it i think we crashed out because of fatigue.
Yes we had a few days off before the first leg but we had to go very strong in every match in February.
Before the second leg Paris rested 8 players and we had to go very strong vs Southampton.
@sandsoftime talked about Slots small core approach in the other thread. Not trusting Elliott and Endo to start at home against the worst team in the league arguably cost us here.
