Post match: Liverpool v PSG (UCL 14/4/26 8pm)

Yup. A top team can carry one lightweight luxury player but not 3 of them

Buy the players and then develop a plan? Unfortunately no sign of a plan. This is why we are where we are!

I don’t mind Arne he has always come across well but just lacks the right mentality to push the players, individually, technically and tactically.

He does seem to focus on a negative approach, worrying too much about the opposition rather than focusing on our game.

I saw in a little moment, when the game had gone in that rain, Salah’s face stood with his arm on his hip, Im sure I saw the last ember of Klopps time here, blow out.

One goddam awful refit. I think it’s the worst Ive ever seen from a top club. Utter disaster.

Should we be happy that we took the game to PSG for 45 minutes out of 180 and still conceded twice?

The two legs encapsulated everything that’s wrong with this team. Lack of fight for most of the time and even when that’s not the case the lack of patterns, of organisation, of cohesion.

PSG would find each other blindfolded. We couldn’t come up with a meaningful pass from several promising openings to save our life. Ultimately, this was a contest between two quality teams that couldn’t be further apart when it comes to the level of coaching.

It was always going to go one way.

Can Arne Slot please STFU about XG?!

That’s attacking-wise. There are big question marks about shape and positioning because our midfield doesn’t work without the front 3 pressing in unison. Wirtz of late had taken to pressing but I’m not convinced by Hugo or Alex.
What @Mascot mentioned about Hughes and Slot getting a bit big-headed after the PL win makes more and more sense.

Didn’t expect anything from this so not disappointed.
Now we move on to Everton, see what magic we can weave there!

We played well between the 2 boxes but we aren’t clinical in front of goal and don’t put our bodies on the line defensively.
PSG’s 1st goal encapsulated the difference between the sides. We just don’t get that amount of space to get the shot off. PSG always had an extra man back to make the block.
6 games to go. If we show the same effort and commitment we’ll be ok against lesser opposition. Slot should be drumming it into the players that tonight was the benchmark in terms of effort, anything less will be fucking unacceptable.

So Gomez wasn’t injured…but he wasn’t convinced that he could keep up the pace without getting hurt?

That doesn’t even make any sense. Why sub him on in the first place, then?

Regarding Wirtz, I really would like to see him working less defensively and save his legs for when we are in possession. It seems to me he has a large area to cover due to how we supposedly press.

Agreed on the other forwards, apart from Gajpo they aren’t very good at pressing.

We are also missing a Jordan Henderson like figure on the pitch. He did all boring work up and down the pitch and he was also coaxing/shouting at the players to be more robust, concentrated and be brave to make decisions on the pitch. He was a brilliant Captain. Also, Milner who would put his body on the line. I am not saying Virgil isn’t, but miss Hendo and Milly right now in a game like this.

I know most of us would want a new manager next season, but my worry is, I think FSG will give Arne another season. I hope I am wrong.

PSG were much the better side. No qualms going out to them, at least the current version of Liverpool. And that’s the problem, because at the moment we are well short of where we aspire to be. We did show some fight, which was good to see, and we gave it a good go in the second half. But the gap between the sides was evident throughout.

Where do we go from here? Well, half a dozen games to go in the Prem, and with our full attention on that singular competition, we will see if we can cobble the points together to finish in the CL spots. It’s a well worn phrase, but each league game almost feels like a cup final from this point on.

Anything between third and sixth seems possible, and we are about to find out in the coming weeks.

Overall, going out to PSG doesn’t change anything about the Slot decision. I think it will be a mutually consented sort of thing, and if so, hopefully Slot isn’t slated too much. He won us the Premier League and that cannot be taken away.

But this season has been so poor that almost all fans expect to see him moved on, and it feels like we need a reset under a new man, players and fans alike.

I could be too optimistic, but I think we have the bulk of a smashing side. With some key additions, and crucially with a breath of fresh air that a new leader would bring, I expect we will be ready to challenge for the biggest prizes again.

Interesting to see Iraola announcing he is leaving Bournemouth. I suspect a job like Liverpool is too soon for him, but there’s another fella who won a big title and went the whole season unbeaten. He was a Rolls Royce of a midfielder, and he knows the club and the city very well. He has a vision for the game, is a hands on coach, and has a thing for keeping standards high.

Hopefully it’s already in the bag. Let’s see.

It is so sad to see Hugo get an injury like that…And now, Isak is being so mis-managed that he might see himself start on the weekend and might see a re-injury…

Come to think of it, the severity of the serious injuries we get are all nearly season-ending injuries. What is going on???

The fact that people in here are happy that we showed “fight” (barely) for 25 minutes of a 180 minute tie, highlights the depths to which Slot has taken this club. At no point tonight did it look like PSG were concerned with us, aside from one incredible save, we offered nothing. PSG played the game in 2nd gear, when they felt like going up a notch they ran through us. They played this game at a canter and we couldn’t get close.

It’s basically a statement of him being done…not injured because he can’t/wont extend himself knowing that if he does something will twang.

Pre VAR I agree it would be considered soft.

In this day and age of VAR penalties are often given for the slightest of touches. Scrape the leg down goes the player and it’s a pen.

No one can deny he was kicked however lightly. I am amazed VAR overturned after what we have seen in the past. So I feel ripped off and at 2-1 it’s a different story.

No one can also deny that PSG are a better side and deserved to go through but that was a poor VAR reversal.

As I keep saying fuck it off for everything that requires judgement. Just goal line and offside.

Spot on on VAR. Let’s strip it back, if you want any more let coaches have challenges.

All that’s left this season to finish 3rd…

These are not the droids I was looking for.
