Post Match: Liverpool v Real Madrid (UCL 14/4/21 8pm)

You’re entire post was absolutely perfect @Limiescouse. Beautifully and eloquently stated. Literally agree with every word you wrote. Not much I can add, but I quoted this particular passage because it’s so on target and on point, and it’s exactly where I am. Sometimes the obvious answer is the right one. The magic and the chemistry has just gone for this group. For all the reasons you laid out. It happens in football. Our boys are burned out, and we need a reboot. We’ve asked so much of this small squad over the last 4 seasons and they delivered everything.

I also think The Boss needs to look within this summer. I don’t think he’s had a great year. Putting all his personal pain and distractions aside, I think even he would be the first to admit he hasn’t performed the best of his abilities. I love the man I’ll stand beside him through the end of time, through highs and lows. But also with that love comes honesty and I think he can be better. And before anyone comes out of the woodwork trying to Superfan me, just save it. This is not a critique on Jürgen rather a humble opinion.

Lots of regrets and what if’s but tonight’s big one was the Salahs early miss. What a shame as that would have elevated the whole tie.

No problems with Milner being dragged despite his top performance. He is 105 years old after all and possibly about to exhaust or injure himself. Coach had to have a crack with Jota, Ox Thiago and Shaq

And to think these cock heads with Ramos may be the team I lean towards to win this thing. Fuck me can’t handle Neymar, Pep or the Russian so who’s left fucking Ramos. That’s desperation.

Just finished watching a recording. Was on radio silence due to work and other commitments so I’m a few hours behind.

Gutted to be knocked out, but I expected it. Can’t stand them, but they defended well and know how to get it done. We were wasteful. Gilt edged chance on 2 mins for Mo, plus another couple of good looks. Better finishing and it could have been very interesting indeed.

Not too much more to say, other than back to the Prem…

A couple of timely wins have put us in the hunt for top four. Hopefully we bounce back from this disappointment quickly and finish the season strongly, and nab a top four spot against the odds.

Gutted to be out. Gutted we were wasteful in front of goal. But still, strangely, proud of the lads. They gave their all. It has been a tough season, for various reasons on and off the pitch. Let’s finish strong, get top four, regroup, and go again.

They need rest.

Sadly that is CL done for now,Top4 is the target now.
Not a bad performance here but we seem to have misplaced the net, sure it is out there.
We did lose this tie in the first leg,but it is history now.
Klopp needs to be a bit adventurous up front for mine.
Mane and Bobby are off the boil just now, while You’d expect them to bounce back at the minute they can’t buy a goal.

I just do not see the Thiago opens defences. Has he had one assist this year. For me is static, takes a touch too many and passes sideways more often than not.

Agree. He takes so long to play the pass and takes far too many touches.

We can’t even blame lack of CBs of late as they done ok but nearly all the midfield and forwards have dropped off a cliff.

I really don’t see top 4 finish unfortunately.

Time to blow up this team… Need an influx of fresh players in every area…

Valiant effort but if we keep this team status quo with just injury returned players. We will be good next season. But not good enough to win major trophies.

Klopps done a great job getting this team to be so good for 3 years but it needs a rebuild now.

Best performance since Tottenham before Christmas. Still not enough to score a single goal.

The whole tie was another case of the team being its own worst enemy with a horrendous first leg and incompetent finishing in the second. It has been the story of the season; either they are not showing up or they conspire to beat themselves.

A few months ago, I was certain that this team was far from finished, that no major rebuild was needed. Now, I am starting to doubt more and more these players’ ability to regain their previous standards. The drop has been so steep and so lasting that for a good number of them there doesn’t seem to be a way back to where they were. Not at Liverpool at least.

I’ve waited thirty years to see a league winning team, and at the first bump in the road we’re fucking them all off?

I think we’ll add a defender, midfielder and attacker, and continue the teams evolution. It doesn’t need ‘blowing up’. That’s just throwing out the baby with the bath water. It completely unnecessary.

What has happened to our front 3.

If they were 50% of what they once were (as a collective) we’d have put real to the sword tonight.

Anyway… lost it in the first leg.

We concentrate in the league now and finishing inside that top 4 - No Champions League next year would be a MAJOR blow.

I hope Madrid go on and win it now but in reality I’d take ANYBODY over City… even Chelsea however I hope it’s a PSG v Madrid final.

Totally agree.

We don’t need major surgery. VVD and Gomez plus Hendo next season will feel like new signings.

We’ll be ok it’s just been a fucking really strange season.

I Will not be watching a second of these matches or what comes after that.

Thiago wears nr 6, not 5.

Yeah, completely agree with this. As always, it will be a gradual evolution, with a few new bodies coming in to replace those who naturally come at the end of the road with us. There’s just no way that Klopp ‘blows up’ his squad just because of a bumpy, injury-ridden season.

Agree, but the team does really need both an injection of freshness in tactics and players. Not wholesale changes…

I have a sneaky suspicion we will see 4231 much more next season. Even 442 would work well.

It comes down to what is now easily a season long problem of breaking through low blocks… We still don’t get our wide players wide, we ended up with most of the team sat in or around their box man to man marked, we pass it around slowly, it ends up at Trent who has zero options bar a cross. Rinse and repeat…

We played well but our front men failed to put any of the chances away, something that has happened a lot this season.

We need height or an attacker with the jumping power of Ronaldo :sunglasses:.

Corners have been toothless this year since we lost van Dijk. We can not afford to be so dependable on one person in the air again.

A gallant effort but oh dear, our woeful finishing ! Goals win games and we created plenty of good chances but could not put the ball in the net.
Made my MOTM choices and when I checked I found I had picked the three that were most popular with other posters , nothing to disagree with there :-).
Will Mane and Firminho ever find their goal touch again ? I do not know but it might need a change of club to refresh them and new strikers to refresh our team. Only time will tell.
Good to see Trent play so well and Nat Phillips has improved dramatically.
