Of course we’ve got our red tinted glasses on, but it’s one of those in the Prem where if the ref gives it, VAR won’t overturn it.
Darwin getting in position to get his head on Trent’s cross, and then Carvajal, who is completely behind him and not near the vicinity of where the ball is going, strategically pushes Darwin when he is in the air - no attempt to get the ball. Laws of physics, easier to push when person in the air.
Fair enough if they both jump to head and defender does a slight push. But here it was timed to perfection, extended his hand out, and he himself didn’t even try to make an attempt at the ball.
Carra was a great defender. We wouldn’t have won the CL 2005 without him. People have short memories.
That said, his comments here are uncalled for. Both players he references have come back from potentially career-ending injuries. They might never be the players they were, but no need for him to stick the boot in
Carra was a great defender in the Houllier/Rafa systems, but he’d be fucking hopeless in Klopp’s system. And I suspect that most of the Premier League now ask for more than he could offer.
100% culpability is with Ali for the second goal. Plenty of time to clear it with VJ turning his back on him. Ali is an excellent keeper but when he has the ball at his feet he always puts the shits up me. He has made a lot of mistakes in the same type of situations.
I mean it wasn’t though was it? We needlessly lost it in the centre of the pitch by trying to overplay, if the simple pass is played Ali is never put in that position to begin with.
Couldn’t watch it live, gave up on it in the 2nd half watching last night (having carefully managed avoiding knowing the score).
This just seems doomed to be a joyless season. I don’t mean a lack of trophies, but simply enjoying watching the side play for more than a game at a time seems a stretch.
