Interesting point on the CM we were after, hasn’t he missed some of the season.
Like he got our curse even without arriving.

Apologies to @Maria and @Dutch
U were right to be worried. I really thought we were going to come out on top for this one, especially since we were at home. So now in addition to the midfield, we need defensive reinforcements as well in the summer.
As one of the members already posted, I seriously hope this loss doesn’t affect our current PL form
One thing that might work in our favour after such a drubbing last night… The RM players might think the tie is already won. If they don’t have the right attitude going into the second game we could be 2-0 up again quite quickly and then game on…!
Lets be honest, we are worn-out, we ain’t going toe to toe with them in the fitness stakes next game… we got to hope their heads are somewhere else, then who knows what might happen eh
Par for the course to be fair isn’t it? Seems to be Klopps bogey man.
I so want to believe… I’ll leave it at that.
He will never be able to rub the stench of being Everton manager away.
I wonder who those D***eads were that set off the fireworks outside the RM hotel the night before the game… Winding them up like that, then they can take all the blame for the hammering we got :0)
Maybe those fireworks disturbed our squad’s sleep from the looks of it…
numb, disappointed, shocked and truly hurt (for want of a better word) that we conceded 5 on our patch. Their second goal is an absolute fluke, because even their player was surprised that the ball hit his leg and went in. Don’t want to fully blame the players, as many in the team have given us a couple of very good seasons after years of trying and not succeeding due to various factors. Klopp succeeded in bringing us up a level, but maintaining that level was always going to be difficult without having the dosh to keep up with the other richer clubs. What we really need is a very, very good recruitment team to find us the players that won’t cost a packet, as our owners don’t have very deep pockets.
Another factor seems to be that we are very unlucky with players getting injured and being out for ages, or buying injured players hoping they will come good. We need to find players like Suarez, with the mentality of winning only.
Maybe I am dreaming and need to wake up and smell the coffee.
To concede the second in the manner we did , and surrender the lead at half-time was a killer.
To come out second half and defend (?) that free kick in the way we did was shocking.
I turned it off after the fifth went in. It had just become embarrassing.
We just need to forget this now. We’ve got three big league games coming up which will probably determine whether we return to this competition next year or not. I just hope the lads can get it out of their system. Drubbings like that can have a serious drag on performance.
@Magnus I’m responding to your post in the match-day thread.
It was embarrassing. Not the result, but the performance. I never really give much importance to the results, for me the performance and mentality are all that matter. Last night showed the gulf in quality and mentality between the two teams. Even after going down by two goals Real didn’t give up, neither did they go gung-ho and shoot themselves in the feet. On the contrary, we acted like headless chickens after conceding the third.
Results aren’t that important. Any team can have a bad day. But it’s likely that we are going to take this attitude/mentality to our next game, and the next one. It’s scary.
Moving on, I think it was wrong to start with largely the same team that started the two previous games. Those two games were exhausting, physically and mentally, and players had very little in the tank for this game. Our midfield should have been changed during the HT. Both Stefan and Fabinho were struggling and it was obvious that Henderson won’t last too long either.
No need to apologise @Retro_Helix,
It is not impossible to beat Real Madrid. Lower teams in La Liga have beaten them.
The coach just needs to find a better strategy and better players. We have also had bad luck with injuries. We were better than them in last year’s CL final, we should have won that final. They had luck and were clinical in their finish and their GK was on top form that night.
Real Madrid buy ready made players, the cream of the crop from all the other European leagues and South America, so, their team is already at an advantage than all the other teams.
First team in history in the knockout stages to take a two goal lead and end up losing by a 3 goal margin. More importantly, this was the heaviest European home defeat ever.
The players made history in the most humiliating and embarrassing way. For 20 minutes they looked like a proper Liverpool team and then proceeded to fuck it all up.
Once again, they started backing away and standing off but Real Madrid aren’t Newcastle and they were made to pay for it to the umpteenth degree. Vinicius should have never be allowed to get a shot off for their first, ditto Benzema for the fourth. And then there is the deer in the headlights defending for the third goal at the start of the second half that killed off whatever fight was left in them. In between there was the typical freakish goal we inevitably concede against them. All the goals were self-inflicted by a team that seems too timid, too diffident to challenge, to tackle.
On a final note, these Madrid fuckers turn into the most ruthless side ever whenever we play them. They had 4 goals from 5 attempts on goal at one point and two of those were deflections. There isn’t a team around that they feel more comfortable and confident to go against than us and that sums up everything.
Good call. He’d be just the ‘Job’. The sort of player we should be having a ‘Luke’ at.
I’ll see myself out.
Overturning a 3 goal deficit from the first leg in a champions league tie?
Meanwhile somewhere in the north east of England a certain person was having a little chuckle. …and I don’t blame him.
Are you insinuating some of our players were asleep last night on the pitch
We’ll this morning feels like I’ve woken up and had to chew my own arm off.
We are a truly broken side.
Disappointed that only Bajcetic and Nunez appeared to be the only ones putting in any obvious effort. Ali aside, the rest just look lost and completely out of sorts to me.
That said are any of them available to play rugby for Wales this weekend? No money for it though.
6 attempts on target and 5 goals, bring Karius back.
Positives.
effectively we were beaten 3-0 by a very good team with phenomenal players. Given how we’ve been playing of late, not THAT bad a result.
It wasn’t United
Numez’s goal was glorious
Reasons to be cheerful
