Post Match: Liverpool v Sheffield Utd (EPL 24/10/20 8pm)

I’m undecided if I give @Lowton_Red a tick / check mark for this one.

Scrappy and battling performance it was but he was off on the score again. Continually putting me through the wringer like this is doing me no good.

Maybe you should start a new thread. Now there’s a thought.

I have a mate who is a WHU fan and he is convinced they have been totally shafted by VAR over and over again.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp to BBC Sport: "I’m not surprised at all, you always have to work hard against Sheffield United. It’s hard to take for Chris Wilder.

"The penalty was not even a foul. During a season there are so many different periods, we have had an injustice and we have had to go again. I love these games, as you earn all of the rest. You earn the easier games when it all goes your way on nights like this.

"We struggled with McBurnie in the first half but we changed our positioning and won the second balls. We were dominating at 2-1 and had some really good football but then they came back.

“They never give up, I respect that so much. They go and go and go. Chris is doing a wonderful job.”

Our classy manager

Keep your fingers crossed that he just might be able to rebound back and still play later in the season!

I’ve got absolutely no faith in any match officials or VAR or whoever is on VAR because of what’s happened to us recently.
I don’t give a toss who the referee is anymore because I know for certain they will stitch us up at some point during the game.

ok performance , although we lost all the long ball headers and most 2nd balls .
JOTA did ok but lost the ball many times and not always tracking back.
Alison is back and this is a very big big positive 3 points done move on

First half, we were poor. We had no energy, no zip. We were getting beaten to all the balls. I was thinking, “Firmino hasn’t done much,” then I had a funny feeling we were about to score, and we did!

The second half was much better. We controlled the half, and deserved to win. I was impressed by Gomez, Jota and Henderson. Salah looks absolutely sublime.

His goal was offside, so I had no problem with that, but VAR is ridiculous. Fabinho did NOT foul with his first foot. He fairly won the ball. He chopped the attacker down with his SECOND foot, which was a foul but outside the box.

The problem with VAR - well, one of many - is that it replaces the judgement of one official for another. How Fabinho was adjudged to be penalized on that while Pickford last week was not, and McGuire for ManU today against Chelsea is simply unexplainable. Absolutely bizarre.

But in the end, we won. We are going to be champions again, I think. We didn’t play like champions for much of the match but won anyways. That’s what champions do. I don’t think ManC are anywhere near as good as they were a few years ago. My guess is that the champions, i.e. us, win it with less than 90 points this season.

Mané was clearly brought down in the box 5 minutes before time, Dean was looking straight at it and just waived it away. I don’t know what is going on this season but I too have no faith in them anymore. We need to score at least twice in every match to win.

Hard fought game. Jota was excellent and my motm. The games are coming thick and fast so I’m not expecting us to blow away teams. A professional game played today against a tough opponent.

VAR is ruining football. I don’t celebrate us scoring now until it’s been cleared by VAR. Never a penalty in a million years. It’s as if VAR has to find a foul, offside etc so that the powers that be can say how amazing it is. I think it should be used s8milarly to Rugby Union. The ref has to request the video ref and we can all hear the discussion on the mics. Getting tired of refs not being held accountable. First post and I’ve ranted!

Wilder thinks they deserved something because they dominated us,the only thing they dominated was the fucking VAR,soft cunt.

Lol, how ridiculous ! Glad it didn’t have severe consequences, but how stupid is this ?

As for the game. Could have been a draw, but we made enough out of the second half to win. I am happy enough, but we can’t play many first halves like that again and expect to salvage 3 points in the second half.
Still, table looking much better now.

Omg! That was :grimacing: very relaxing to watch (not). Uff, we were made hard to work for this match. Sheffield Utd are no pushover. They could have got a draw, but we grinded out the match and got our well deserved 3 points.

I think our lads are still traumatised that Virgil isn’t going to be with them for a long time and are learning how to cope without him. It will take time for the lads to get used to the new situation and adapt.

VAR is so farcical, it runs the whole atmosphere of the match. Every time we score, I am thinking, it will be ruled out anytime.
The guys using VAR have no idea what they are doing.
It is going to be a long, long tough season, with more VAR controversy on the way against us. The lads will have to play out of their skin.
Jota was excellent and I believe he is a superstar in the making. It was so nice seeing Bobby score after a long while and seeing his white gleaming gnashers.

Anyway, glad it is over and we got our 3 points. On to West Ham, who will definitely give it ago against us as they drew against Man City which will boost their confidence. Hopefully, our defence will be abit more settled by then.

He wasn’t wrong, they were much more dangerous than us in the first half and if I were him, I would be disappointed as they were quite close to a result. We were much better in the second half, but that does not erase Sheffield United dominance in the first.

Edit: Overall, considering the second half, we truly very much deserved the win. But it was much too close for my liking.

Right now, when everyone else with a realistic chance (and some with a highly unrealistic but got to count them in the conversation this early on) of winning the league are dropping points, three points is all that matters.

Not as if either game against them was that great for us. Back to winning ways with plenty of players to come back into the side and squad. Right now we just need to stay in contention at the top whilst others drop points.

I don’t want to argue really, but they had much higher intensity and aggression and won more second balls in the first, as well as having more dangerous attacks than we did.
But sure, we really did deserve the win based on second half performance since we were better in the second half than they were in the first, but it was too close in my opinion.

Edit: I guess what I am trying to say is that Wilders can be excused for thinking they were close to a result.

That was more to do with us being a bit sloppy with passing,we literally kept giving them the ball and gave them chances,we cleaned that up in the second half but it’s fanciful to say we were dominated.
