Post Match: Liverpool v Sheffield Utd (EPL 24/10/20 8pm)

I agree that I chose the wrong word with “dominating”. Sorry for that. But they were the better team in the first half and had much higher intensity and aggression than we did, and with some bad luck we could have lost these 3 points. It was a close game. Overall, we were better than them over two halves, but they shocked us for some considerable time in the first half.

The stream I was watching was so far behind, Jota has only just scored! Did we win then?

Good win, three points, had to dig deep.

Their goal was a joke VAR penalty for a good tackle by Fabinho.
Gomez had a very good game. Fabinho pretty good too, though we aren’t as imperious in the air at the back without VVD, so we miss that a bit.

Should have added a third to prevent the possibility of a sucker punch but two was enough. Mo missed a couple and Jota looked lively and tucked his header away with aplomb. Nice to see Firmino score at Anfield, though unfortunately for him he didn’t hear the crowd erupt!

I think the league will be tighter this year and nobody will run away with it. The schedule for the CL will mean those teams will be exhausted, while the better teams without European football will have a big advantage with their additional rest, so they might get to the fringes of the title race.

This season, if completed, will be won with less than 90 points. I think we will add a central defender in January, Kabak or Upamecano, as a replacement for Degsy and especially given injury to big Virg.

Anyway, three points. Mentality monsters starting to emerge again, digging deep to get the points.

SU had 3 other penalty calls overlooked. Just proves how VAR is operated is just nonsense 3 reasonable calls and zilch one non penalty given as.

Fair enough watched it again on match of the day but still should not have had a penalty

Jermaine Penis says it wasn’t a penalty but added that he couldn’t understand why Fabinho was going after the ball, twat.

Just when I finished folding laundry, made the bed, about to put on the home kit and sit down, feeling good with the initial attacking plays from our boys, we got an absolutely shit decision against us, and as a result, we were 1 goal behind. Afterwards, it was hard to jump up and down to celebrate any goals as VAR (Andre Marrinar is shite as usual!) kept on intervening. I also thought that Mo scored another one, but in fact, it bounced off the post and into the keeper’s bossom. Nervous time throughout the match, especially with the man with the whistle rarely calling any fouls against the Blades.

It seemed to me that the energy level was not as high at the latter part of the match, passing of the ball was not as crisps, probably because of the mid-week CL match. I do not remember there were much pressing from us in the final 15 minutes, which allowed the Blades came at us for sustain period of time, or that they have thrown the kitchen sink at us. We were not able to keep and control the ball. The anxiety level was high among the players…If there were fans on the ground, that anxiety may get amplified.

It was great to have Ali back, beautiful save to keep the score 0-1 half way through the 1st half, but he also had one of those moments, that if it was Adrian, he would have been crucified.

After Burke came on for the Blades, our defence was under a bit more pressure. At that point our defence looked a bit like a chicken with its head cut off. It felt that we were a bit all over the place, and the Blades managed to get past our right too many time to my liking. Hendo had to come to the rescue on at least one occasion.

On the left, after a massive game from Robbo in the last match, he had a bit of a stinker in terms of pass accuracy in the first half. Nevertheless, there was one memorable run from Robbo in the first half from the left back, connected with Hendo, received the ball from Hendo and then ran all the way towards Sheffield’s end. He did much better after the break.

Gini was feisty today, he was ready to get into a scrap after getting shoved by Sheffield’s player into the Boss. Hendo provided the usual stability, Diogo was great in linking up and intercepted plays.

Mane hard work and his ferocious header ended up for Bobby to even up the match. Yay. Wonderful cross by Sadio for Diogo’s header to put us ahead. Bobby also linked up reasonably well with Diogo. Mo did everything right, except putting one (or two) into the net.

My 3 picks:

  1. Hendo - As usual setting an example. Even with a poor pass, he would be back at it to get the ball back. What a massive cross with so much pace by Hendo to Sadio, resulting in a good save by Ramsdale but Bobby pick up the scrap for our first goal. Played a one-two with Mo after a short corner, too bad that Mo ran out of space. He had a brilliant through ball to Sadio, but did not end up with anything. He also made an important interception, when our right side of the defences got a bit lost from the Blades’ attack.

  2. Diogo - Not just a nice header to allow us to keep the unbeaten records at Anfield, Diogo put in proper effort in attacking and defending (except with 10 minutes to go…Either lack of concentration or out of gas when Osborne passed him at our byline). Of course there are plenty of room to improve, but it is another good showing by one of our new signings.

  3. Sadio - 2 Assists?! He was constantly being marked by 2 players, and yet, he managed to find the spaces.

Big shout out to Joe Gomez. I think that the did really well in today’s match. Also Mo - One of those days that his effort did not end up with goals. The VAR denied goal was exquisite. Then he just missed a sitter by hitting the upright. Mo also seemed to find more room, while poor Sadio was marked by 2 players at all time.

Also happy with Brewster getting match time now, but at the same time, glad that he did not score against us.

According to MOTD, this isn’t true.

However, given how last week they hadn’t checked the foul on Van Dijk, then they had, then they hadn’t again, I suspect they’ll say any old shit to cover their arses.

I thought that was a great win, honestly. We were fucked over by the referees and SU played very well, they gave us a proper game. Instead of feeling sorry for ourselves we battled for the win, great stuff.

Alisson was excellent in goal, a key factor in us winning today. A few of their set pieces put him under real pressure but he rose to the challenge.

Gomez was very good, the better of the pair this time. Fab less so but still not a bad game by any stretch.

Henderson had a good game but Gini did not. Front 4 played well and could have easily banged a few more in if not for some excellent last ditch defending by SU.

A well deserved win in the end.

Yeah I heard all of that and was not impressed with the shit he was chatting. I’m not at all liking the ugly side of Wilder’s character that he’s been showing. I admire the job he’s done but he’s cracking under the pressure and he’s pointing blame everywhere but at himself. He’s dangerously close to completely losing the plot, and his players trust. Personally I think Blades are a legitimate candidate to go down this year.

I saw his interview. He said absolutely nothing offensive at all and came across sympathetic and nice in my view. The only thing he said that you could possibly object to, like Scott, is that he thought they deserved to get something out of the game. This what what I saw at least. What exactly has he said to provoke this reaction in you ? His team played a brilliant game against a superior team, he was respectful throughout the interview and only answered questions when asked.

Edit: Maybe he has said something bad in an interview with another channel. But as far as I know, he comes across nice.

VAR makes you feel like this!

A win is a win,and that was a good one given it was against the Blades and VAR.
Great to see Alisson back,we miss him and Gomez looks more confident with Alisson there, totally understandable.
Jota looking the goods, and was nice to see Mo and Bobby looking closer to being on song again.
MOTM hard for me,but Gomez!

Not a great match from us. But will take the win.

I feel while the players know they are still a great team even without VVD… His loss still has them shaken. Maybe a little unsure of themselves as far as winning the title again.

But I believe after a few more games to adjust without Virgil. And the return of Thiago Keita and Matip. We will be at our best again.

I have a wider margin than most for Chris Wilder so I’m not going out of my way looking to be offended. He’s one of the very few I’ll go out of my way to say nice things about. The interview I saw post-match he was referring to our players fouling his players “every time in the box” then putting their hands in the air to proclaim their innocence. He called it “quite telling behavior.” It sucked. It reeked of Sean Dyche’s tactics of David vs Goliath and David getting shafted. And it’s not so much what he was saying but the manner in which he was saying it. Again, I think my posting history on Chris Wilder speaks for itself.

I am not accusing you of anything, mate. I just saw an interview with him after the game and he answered the best he could I thought. I am just trying to understand why you see the same as I see and take something completely different from it. If you think I am being a bloody bore, then I am sorry. Didn’t mean to annoy you, just being blunt with my opinion since I think you can handle that.

Because I think it is the same interview. From what I remember, he was asked by the interviewer if there wasn’t more penalty shouts and if they shouldn’t maybe have had 3 more pens. But it was the interviewer asking, and then he mentioned that he didn’t know (he asked the journalist if he had seen other angles if you remember), and then when the interviewer pushed him, he mentioned the stuff about our defenders holding their hands up in the air and that maybe it was a sign that they knew they had made a foul.
It is is the same interview I am pretty sure. I just didn’t react at all. I just didn’t consider that he said anything out of the ordinary , rude or wrong.
But there is a chance that I missed something. But again, from what I saw, the journalist triggered every such statement with saying that “you should perhaps have had more penalties” and so on.

…if Mane’s early attempt had gone in(around the 1 minute mark)…we started really well, they were hanging on, but then they came into the game after being awarded a generous penalty. But after taking the lead, Chris Wilder’s men put in a good shift.

Fabs got the ball, it was never a pen! In my pipe smoking opinion!
Gomez looked quite assured.
Robbo played well.
Mo was excellent and scored one helluva goal, ruled offside, sadly. Also hit the post, and that would have been a good goal.
It was great to see Alisson back in goal, and made a couple of decent saves.
Gini had a quiet match.
TAA almost scored from inside our half, was it a free kick? Must watch the highlights!!!
Bobby scored!
Jota is a beast! Nice header son!
Mane is a nightmare to play against! Shame he didn’t score!
Hendo was solid.
Not the best performance, but 3pts is all that matters.

Well, I’m off to clean my pipes!!! Night all.
