It was such a nice move. Robertson’s over the top pass from the midfield was inch-perfect too and after Chiesa’s sublime touch, Ekitike was rolling the ball into an open goal.
Shame that’s not why it will be remembered for.

We looked like a team that hadn’t played together because …we were. It’s still early in the season but there were some good signs.
Loved that Fede had his best game. We would not have won that without him. Lioni looks promising and Mamardashvili was solid. Let’s not forget that inch perfect pass from our half to the left hand channel that created the opportunity for the second goal. Well played Andy (TAA) Robertson. Arne has some work to do to get the best out of our squad, or maybe this long ball game is going to be our playing style this season…?
Chiesa reminded me that we need his unique skills to open up games. I think we look so much better when we have this type of player. Maybe we should have found a Luis Diaz type to fill that gap?
Yes, it was annoying that the commentators kept referring to us as ‘one of the best teams in Europe’ which was not an accurate description of the team we put out.
We are, of course, one of the best clubs in Europe, but, much as I love our reserves, they are not among Europe’s elite.
Our second string xi is still really strong though.
We should have won this match much more easier.
Just not sure we should be relying on last minute goals after giving up Jammy goals. There always is a period in every game where we drop out level and are punished.
Not quite sure if it’s complacency or its instructions from the coaching setup to ensure we don’t over exert ourselves considering the matches that are remaining.
Between him and isak they should be able to manage 90 minutes on Sunday
Another win despite of the match seeming to slip away at some point. Well done!
Ekitike getting a red card for taking his shirt off… it’s a stupid rule, but then again, why does he have to take it off if he knows that he’s on a yellow and will get another one for this? Is he suspended for the next league game then?
Anyway, he’s young and will learn from this. Another goal for him, from a peach of an assist from Chiesa (MoM for me). Isak getting off the mark (also thanks to Chiesa) is another positive to take.
Fingers crossed that Leoni’s injury isn’t too bad, and well done to Southampton who played very well to be fair with them.
Ekitike is out for Palace.
All the players know the rule, so why do it? Even if you’re not on a yellow, you’re putting yourself in danger of a red next time you mistime a tackle.
Leoni’s injury is serious. Could be season ending.
I haven’t seen anything confirmed so far. Did Slot say this?
Just judging by the reaction of the player and staff, the strapping on the knee, the amount of time it took to get him on the stretcher etc. I’ve never seen anyone go off like that and come back a couple of weeks later.
The Leoni injury looks serious even if nothing is confirmed.
Best case I can think of his a 2-3 month injury
I don’t buy the first card for Ekitike fwiw. Both of them were jousting each other and the referee giving the foul in favour of Southampton wasn’t on. Don’t blame the player for being pissed off. Players are humans at the end of. Especially if it’s the referee making the mistake.
The card is for the reaction and it was stupid. There’s no way around it.
You know that you receive a yellow for beating the ball away as he did. Similarly, he should have known that he’d get a yellow for taking his shirt off. He’s young, and lost control of himself on these two situations.
There’s no justifying his dickhead move for the second yellow card. For the first one , his petulance. Yes. But doesnt mean the referee should not be taken into account for the bizarre call in the first place.
This is the same kind of justification we’ve been lambasting Simeone for his red card the other night.
How does this sound to you?
“This doesn’t mean the crowd insulting him should not be taken into account”.
The first yellow I understand, a player shouldn’t do it but the way he was being fouled and then it was given against him.
Second is just dumb.
Really pleased for Chiesa. MotM, great performance. Could be a turning point for his Liverpool career. He was given a similar chance in the FA Cup tie against Plymouth back in February, that didn’t work out so well and I think it had an impact on Slot playing him in future matches. He was given another starting chance here and took the opportunity really well.
The physio that tended to him was guessing it might be an ACL?
