Look how he wants to pass forward. He doesnt just pass the buck and give it to his defenders. He pivots his body and he finds angles to play it forward.
Get him in the side with Wirtz and see how Wirtz gets more of the ball.

Yep. He does the role we need.
Sure it´s great to be a Vitinha or Modric with a lot of individual ability, but he does the fundamentals of the role they do.

I swore I would not say a bad word about the ref but the yellow card he gave to Frimpong was the most bizarre I have ever seen ie he gets taken out and it’s him that gets penalised. The handball we should have had a penalty and another penalty for the foul on Rio in the box.

Brilliant by the young players and telling that we looked worse when Trey and McConnell went off. Koumas easy MOTM - amazing performance of grit. Well done Mama. Frimpong good as was Kerkez mostly. Gakpo was the class player out there, along with Jacquet, both of them purring with quality. Macca very good too. Rio draws defenders out of position and will get smarter.
That was more enjoyable than Madrid because of the kids and the atittude we showed.

I have some complaints/ frustrations about certain players. Which i will post later.
BUT … I might be wayyy optimistic after this match in saying that

- we have a very talented squad
- we need Iraola to be brave and make hard choices and find the right combinations
- we must bring back Virgil, Allison, Macca and Araujo

Sure we are going to see more of the kids after that,Iraola’s post match said it all, the kids were stuffed when they came off, surely gave 101%.
Feel a bit more confident about this season after that.

Didn’t see the match but some snippets.
We have an issue with gravenberch…We simply have no idea where and how to play him. We thought we found a solution during Slot’s first season but it got found out in the 2nd season.
Szobo can play RB, RW and CAM or even fucking CF. Just don’t play him in the middle of the park as part of a midfield pivot where all his limitations comes into full view.
Macca and Nyoni were very good. Nyoni keeps things ticking without going too far up like what a proper pivot should do. Macca looks rejuvenated and more like the player we got in Klopp’s last season, has a long shot full of finesse.
Seeing Gomez back again is a good thing. Let’s hope he can continue to stay fit and provide defensive cover until the end of his contract with us.

Koumas ran his socks off from a pressing perspective but I was also impressed with how, for his frame, he really competed physically with their two CB’s.
marmadashvili done the basics distribution wise although still not the most reassuring but made some big saves. I also liked the way he was pumped up. It was a shame that he kind of flapped on the Corner for their Goal but all in all positive.
Frimpong, I am not his biggest fan. If I can criticise his performances then it is only fair that I can praise his performances. He got an unfair yellow card early which may make defenders tentative but he got stuck in, generally defended well and made some important challenges.

Mama can’t get my vote with that howler, even as he had a great game otherwise. His distribution was very good.

I already expected such performances from Nyoni and Koumas, but McConnell was the one that surprised me. He was supposed to be a deep midfielder, but today he played at No.10 and did a nice job.
It’s still to early to conclude whether he is a Premier League level midfielder, but he certainly did not disappoint today.

That was more like it and great to see midfielders scoring goals (screamers). Every player stepped up last night. Irs obvious some of our fringe players need more football to show they are good enough. Lots of moaning about Dom but he showed his class with that goal, now we need the same at the weekend.
