When shielding the ball I teach my young players to use their arms to hold of their opposition. Itâs defending 101.
He just has his elbow out to hold off Richarlison. There is no swing, No aggression. His elbow is planted below Richarlisonâs chin. The player goes down holding his face

Being fair gobshiteâs head was at virgâs waist height when it happened. There really was nothing to see and from what I saw the ref had seen it and wasnât having any of gobshiteâs pantomime.
A fair tussle for the ball where one player behaved like a moron to try and upsetting one of the coolest, calmest players in football.
I donât think Virg was very pleased about it and let gobshite know and guess what, gobshite limped off in a sulky.

Another ref might have seen his elbow get thrown out and then bought dickheadâs theatrics and quite easily have flashed a red.
