Post match: Liverpool v Villa (EPL 1/11/25 8pm)

Clean sheet, three points. Lovely to get back on the win bus against an in form Villa side. The most pleasing thing was the fight we showed. We have been in a funk and had we just drifted through the game it would have been really concerning. But instead we showed a lot of fight.

Moving forwards the bigger issues to solve will be to integrate Wirtz and Isak, but that can wait for another day. Three points, with a little tilt to the past to get it done, and that was fine with me.

City are down to 8th. Is this a crisis?

Nah,just like to see us hammering them!

A lot better, Not perfect, sometimes a bit of over commitment at 2-0 but some really good defending and they didn’t have much of a decent chance in that period.

Hopefully Brentford was the darkest before the dawn.

Szobo, been a star through all the drama this season. Big, beautiful bastard

It was a deserved result, even if Villa self inflicted. Only looked like being 1 winner for much of that game.

I’m happiest for Mac tbh, a lot were skeptical over his inclusion (probably right so too) but we do need to get the form back into him and ideally the sooner the better. We don’t tend to play well unless he’s on it. His reaction to winning the foul on the corner from that big nasty bully, picking on someone 593ft smaller than him, brought a warmth to my heart.

I actually don’t fear playing the better teams as we can go toe to toe quality wise.

It is the teams that aren’t so fashionable that are causing us problems with a style that relies a lot on fighting for the ball and if they press us we aren’t very good at successfully playing through them and go long at the wrong times.

Therefore I feel we’ll do well in our next 2 games compared to against Forest.

But 1 game at a time

Delighted with the clean sheet and the 3 points, and with seeing Salah and Macca back to their more normal performances.
Finally a win with a good performance and without heart attacks, and with more than a single goal difference.

Hope we can now build on this.

PS: Doubt we’ll see any knee-jerkers own up in this thread. Hope we can see more focus on support now, rather than imaginary solutions or hear who was to blame (not talking about the constructive posts, talking about the tantrum posts). The team needs all the positive energy, it’s bad enough everyone outside the club was having a feast, and media and pundits were suddenly burying us.
Need to have a good run to get them to turn their attention elsewhere, and to start getting the confidence, but tonight we showed that we can do it, Villa was not an easy game.

We’ve been pretty crap against any team recently.

I thought we played poorly. Only the last 25 minutes of the first half, when the tempo picked up and we played more forward, were decent.

Mamma saved us several times in the first half, and in the second half we just played not to lose.

We succeeded in getting the three points, but there’s still a lot of work to be done before we can celebrate.

Mo, MotM for me and Gakpo, no idea why he gets to play every week.

It’s a mystery. You have to have the patience of a saint to watch this guy week in week out and not wanna strangle the nearest person.

The most upsetting thing is seeing Chiesa, who runs through brick walls any time he comes on and tries to make things happen, can’t even get on the pitch despite Gakpo rotting the place out.

Played well against Arsenal, looked ok against Chelsea until last 15 mins…

Hugo and Ryan deserve better songs!

Chiesa got 30mins last week and was awful. Agree that Gakpo is incredibly frustrating. Would love to sign that Diaz fella from Bayern!

Thing is it was very much a Slot performance from last season. It’s no thrills but enough attacking intent while trying to shut up at the other end. We still had gaps but we defended a lot better

Our set piece defending had that edge which we’ve not had and we need that shithousery to be honest

Most games have demonstrated an ability to play and create it’s been usually that it’s always at a risk that was less so tonight.

Probably helped that Macallister looked better. Most games for teams will be 35-40 mins quality play, dig in for about 20 and the other bit a bit dull.

If we had done the basics on set pieces we’d probably be top still.

This to me was the best thing about today. There were holes in the performance and still difficulties to navigate in terms of how we improve to the level needed while adding in today’s missing pieces, but if we’re going to be able to do that the fans need need stay on side so this was really encouraging to hear. Especially as it wasn’t an isolated case people quickly moved on from

A collective cheer and relief for all Liverpool fans. I hope this would kick start our form and confidence. This implies replacing an old system and players requires more time.

The next few games are against teams who also play out from the back, so it is a good omen.

My only gripe is Gakpo - more such performances and he could be the one to make way for Wirtz in the starting 11 soon. Isak might seem to be a luxury buy. He was the main man at Newcastle and all the attacking chances went to him. We are seeing Woltermade receiving similar support. Remains to be seen if Isak can replicate Ekitike’s link up and movement to allow the front three to flourish.
