I can’t stand these West Ham fans (and some in the media) complaining about a lack of effort or Moyes’ team selection. If they had just been battered 5-1 by Man City, the narrative would have been all about how the Hammers had simply lost to a better team and that there’s no shame in it.
What a refreshing performance, everyone played well, standouts were Harvey & Curtis, with Curtis rightfully MOTM.
Loved Quansah’s performance, he was excellent on the ball and was a little unlucky with their goal, gets a foot in and it ricochets perfectly for Bowen.
Endo was excellent both on the ball and off it.
What was also uplifting I saw, Gomes, Nunez and Szobo make a mistake on the ball and all 3 then worked back to win possession.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp to Sky Sports on Curtis Jones:
**"It was a joy to watch him. I’m really happy for him because the skill-set he has immense but sometimes he forgets to speed the game up. **
so its not only us fans telling jones to speed it up
**"Especially the second goal, it is exactly what Curtis can do. He has this speed, this tempo, and he doesn’t use it often enough. **
"It’s what we tell him quite frequently but tonight he did it. Hopefully that’s an eye-opener for him and a possibility for me as well.
All in all, a very good night. Much improved performance by the team and the crowd (well done @The-AllMightyReds !).
And I loved Jürgen’s use of the squad. None of the starters for Arsenal match (except for MOTM Jones, he should definitely start on Saturday) played the full 90’, so all should be reasonably fresh while having remained in rhythm.
Glad he had said this. Loads of young fans desperate for tickets that could create a great atmosphere. Easy to blame tourists, but there plenty of old season ticket holders that sit and grumble their way through every game
So many good performances, thought Harvey and Gomez were fantastic. Quansah given a tough run around for their goal but otherwise going from strength to strength & for the first time this season Jones really came alive, that’s what I’ve been wanting to see.
Two leg semi final. That needs to be nipped in the bud. It is silverware and I want to win it, and we did very well tonight. But it is the fourth most important trophy for us, by a margin, and the prize money is only buttons too. Two games for the semi is too much. I don’t know who we talk to about that. Rick Parry? And presumably it would go to a vote, and presumably the vast majority of voters would want the extra money from the extra game?
Thinking out loud, but maybe some trickle down money from the Prem could be an enticement to streamline that semi final?
