Thought you’d have gone the cordial route myself, bet you drink presse.
IMO it was a foul as well. While I don’t have problem with this decision in isolation, if they are consistent with these throughout it would be nice. Somehow these are rechecked and revalidated and we usually end up at the wrong side of those.
Defender has a screening position, Mane came through him to try to get a touch on the ball, comes close but the sweep of Mane’s leg takes out the defender’s leg well before any contact with the ball is made. Defender then falls on Mane as Mane’s slide continues, and steers his leg into Fabianski. No intent by Mane to foul Fabianski whatsoever.
Yeah, could well be, he was not in a well-balanced position.
Last season I loved his swagger. He demanded the ball, and when he got it he didn’t look to just give it to more senior players. This season, in the games Ive seen him play at least, he has had that reserved, deferential sort of approach and it’s meant that he’s not really putting any sort of mark on the game. He is playing almost like Hendo his first season with us. You can see the talent, but just feels like he’s playing massively within himself.
As for the VAR, it’s difficult to see the frustration, other than a continuation of something we already dont like. There was a loose ball and Mane dived in. If he got there then Jota is offside, if he didnt then it was a late tackle, and you pick either of the West Ham players he fouled.
Grenadine, (sirop), usually is a cordial but sometimes one adds it to pastis or white wine.
I don’t even know where to start with how it’s used for offside. I know it’s a binary decision but a millimetre on/off isn’t about clear and obvious, it’s micro-officiating to a such a degree that the technology isn’t able to match. Then you have the nonsense of not flagging obvious offsides until the play comes to an end. If that’s how the game is to be officiated then ditch linesmen completely.
As for judging fouls, I can actually see how you can give the Mane one. But if you don’t see it in real time and you need three minutes of replays then it isn’t a clear and obvious error. It’s looking for a reason to rule out the goal and now fans aren’t even celebrating goals because of it.
We might get more right decisions but it’s at the expense of the fan experience. Every other sport has managed to implement technology better than football has.
Suprised to see Jones being criticised. He was no worse than Henderson or Wijnaldum. He didn’t do anything special but he kept possession, moved the ball around and defended ok.
Nothing to write home about, but an improvement compared to his last start.
If they had given it for a foul on the Goalie you can’t argue, studs-up going in always a foul in my opinion, however for it to be given for a foul on Ogbonna is bullshit as Ogbonna was ‘playing’ Mane, not interested in the ball.
If the challenge had been on Mane would a penalty have been given probably not.
Jones played better once he moved up the pitch 1st half too deep and doesn’t have the range of passing for that position.
I was just relieved it was not deemed an offside - it is absurd to consider that Ogbonna could be considered not ‘playing’ the ball there.
Agree again.
This ‘clear and obvious error’ shit just seems a convenient line to wheel out when the situation suits.
The irony that figuring out what is ‘clear and obvious’ is the most unclear part.
I like it with crème de menthe as well (called bec de perroquet )
Ogbonna wasn’t in possession and actually was only looking at playing Mane & not the ball so a screening position is irrelevant IMO
Take your pomegranate and stick it up your Pernod
Philips - take a bow son. He was expected to be our weak link /in fact everybody expected to see Rhys Williams in the starting eleven/, but the boy was our best defender today. Nat is not at the level of this Liverpool team, but he had showed desire, hunger and devotion to the cause. And that desreves huge respect. Won multiple headers, crisp passing, a fine example of no nonsense defending. And it was real pleasure to vote for him in the MoM poll.
I think that most of the players did well. Trent improved lately and today he looked close to his best. Robbo was good defensively, offensively struggled, but overall was fine for me.
Sadly Gomez played an awful game. Lost several important aerial duels and had an assist but for the wrong team and player. Joe almost cost us the win vs. Midtijland in the 90th minute standing still. He was diabolical vs. Villa. And today gifted West Ham a goal. Needs to improve his concentration levels. And we need Matip asap.
And the problem is that our defence must stop with those absurd gifts. We can’t start every game losing after 15 minutes, because of lack of concentration and stupid mistakes /for example VvD with a gift for Leeds, then Robbo assisting to Lacazette, Adrian, Gomez and co passing to ball to Villa players,Fabinho with a mistake in front of our goal, leading to a penalty vs. Sheffield United and today Gomez passing a great ball to Fornals/.
Hendo and Gini were good, but we need bodies. They are no robots and rotation will be nededed very soon. The front three had a mixed game. Salah was very good, winning the penalty, scoring his 7th goal and his form is close to what I saw in his first season in red shirt. Mane with a poor start, but slowly improved, still not at his best today, but tried. Firmino was invisible once again. Klopp insists and insists with Bobby, but it is time to start Jota over Bobby. Based on current form the Portugese must be one of the front three. That little Portugese bastard loves scoring at Anfield :).
Great 20 minutes for Shaq. He was good in midweek, and today his pass unlocked a very solid and stubborn defence. It will be nice to have him fit for the season, he will definitely contribute, if he stays injury free.
Curtis Jones with a decent game, but needs to take more risks in the final third. He will be a very important player for us in the future. Obviously Klopp likes him and there will be more chances for the young scouser.
Good to see that we stopped playing with that absurd high line. Still the defence needs to tighten up. 27 goals in 14 matches after the league was resumed in June… That is too much for a club aspiring for trophies.
And finally VAR - what a joke. It has become embarassing. I have the feeling that because we rasied our voice against that bullshit system, they are trying to punish us in every possible opportunity. I really don’t undrestand how every fuckin decision goes against us, every time. And most of the situations are 50/50.
With the tsunami of calls VAR are involved in…
If they get it wrong after it has been dissected beyond any further recognition by the pundits and fans… The referees must be thinking… "so what", tomorrow it will be yesterdays news!!!
Obviously secure in the knowledge that the whole lot of them are as incompetent as each other…!!
He was placing his body between Mane and the ball, for me that is in possession - an offside call (as commentators were considering) is absurd there to me.
Of course, there is a great deal I find absurd about the offside rule now.
