That was pretty solid, the second half in fact was promising. Defended very well and largely kept them in check. After halftime, we even put some nice moves together.
Van Dijk and Konate were largely faultless, TAA and Tsimikas provided an outlet and surprisingly the midfield more than held its own. That was the most competent Fabinho has looked all season. Nunez was a menace throughout and Jota, despite many complaints about him looking off the pace, helped a lot defensively with his pressing. Salah on the other hand was below par but he still got a nice goal.
Thatâs more or less what they said on the German coverage. Except in German, obviously.
I still canât work out who Jota is meant to have fouled. The run leading up to it was something else, if he had got his shot away it could have been goal of the season stuff.
I can only assume, from past performance, that Jota is someone thst Tierney has a âproblemâ with.
Wasnât an easy watch. More passes backwards than Iâve seen in some time, but maybe that is tactical to try reduce the number of times we get turned over and the opposition ping a ball over the top.
Positives: Three points, Jota back and hungry, improved attitudes, clean sheet and no injuries.
Negatives: Further proof that weâre regularly player against 12 men (Tierney in this case) and our 12th man was a little quiet for much of the game.
One thing about this is we lost to this lot 3-0 in one of the most abject displays of football only 5 games ago and that was after several other games of similar quality.
Regardless of what happens against the better teams we are in somewhat a better place than we were.
Agree, but the number of back passes has been evident for some time nowâŚnot sure it is tactical, a lot of the times our cbâs or fullbacks hold onto the ball too long looking to find some movement ahead of them then when they donât see it and see opposition starting to close downâŚall yours Ali.
I thought the same but there was one angle that clearly showed that Jota kicked and fouled their player and you couldnât blame the push from their player 1st for it either
Happy with the win. Not so much with the performance but at least itâs 3 points and another step forward. Things a little brighter but still really nervous at how weâre playing.
But if we can keep picking up wins, who knows what might be possible
Energy comes from going on a wee little run like we have, I get the tingle in my loins.
Not just in the thread title, but the thread itself YEAH BABEHHHHH
Long may it continue.
P.s thanks to all who voted in this fantastic poll although not a single love for Ali kinda makes me sad âŚlets get a few more in, reach that 50 mark.
Beating a team which had drubbed us three nil just a month ago, in a solid and comprehensive way.
More and more players returning to the squad, and the collective finding back some form.
There is clearly a pattern emerging now, long may that continue! Itâs not perfect yet, but the upward curve is there for all to see, and not even Tierney could hinder that.
And now on to the red mancs. Hopefully we can beat them and make that top four race even more interesting!
Thereâs an annoying habit that Harvey and Stefan have picked up that needs stamping out - the flick over the top. Hendo does it as well but less more recently. It almost never works and is a disaster in close/tight situations as the ball hangs in the air and allows the opposition to close down the receiver!
Play it along the ground - it is the Liverpool way!
