Post Match: Liverpool v Wolves (EPL 16/2/25 2 pm)

I am glad it is safe to come back on the thread. I couldn’t watch the last 15 minutes of the game.

Those stats for the 2nd half are fucking brutal, I’m pretty sure I’ve never seen anything like them before.
The thing is, I don’t think they are down to Wolves being any good, more a case of us inviting them back into the game. The first 15 minutes of the 2nd half we gave the ball away time and time again as we attempted to play out from the back.
I don’t know if Slot told the lads to conserve energy and see the game out but if he did we got it badly wrong. We can’t play like that, we are totally bereft of any game management. This was highlighted by Robbo, 5 minutes into injury time, playing a fucking stupid ball towards Mo from a free-kick which could have led to a break for Wolves. Just play it safe, pass it back and play it around for a minute instead of playing a totally pointless high ball to Mo which he was never going to win.
Voted for Alisson MOTM for his 1 on 1 save, Gravenberch was decent 1st half and that block by Quansah was the equivalent of a winning goal. Konate was fucking brainless and Trent looked like he had his boots on the wrong feet.
2 massive aways in the next week. Play like that again and we’ll get 0 points. Time to stand up and be counted.

We are genuinely our own worst enemy. My mate said both teams were kicking towards the same end in the 2nd half and I think that just about sums it up.

It’s literally what we’ve been doing all season.

We got there in the end. I was surprised how poor we looked in the second half, and it’s a little worrying that this is the second game we haven’t controlled particularly well.

I was thinking Everton was a one-off given it’s a derby and all the biased ref calls, but I’m now hoping it’s not a sign of our fatigue.

On that note, I was pleasantly surprised by Simon Hooper. I seem to recall that he is a decent ref whose main problem is fitness — when he can’t keep up he tends to “guess” what happened. I feel like he had a decent game and got all the calls more or less correct (bar one foul which I thought was incredibly soft just outside our box). That part was refreshing.

For all the huffing and puffing Wolves did after the goal Allison never made a save even if you look at the Quansah clearance its behind the Wolves man which allows him to clear. Granted second half wasn’t brilliant but there is too much pants shitting.

Three points the main thing. 7 point gap over Arsenal as we look ahead to three tricky fixtures coming up. Ideally I’d love to extend our gap before the end of the month, since we play three more games to their two.

The second half was concerning. Was it the start of tiredness that might spill into other games? Or was it just a poor half and we collect the points and move on? We will see in the coming fixtures.

Quansah was a big positive. He had a very good second half and looked like the player who emerged last season. He should definitely be part of the group moving forwards.

Bradley showed good energy when he came in, and a couple of tackles or clearances were met with a clenched fist and the appreciation of the Anfield faithful. It’s not headline making stuff, but these are the vital ingredients you need if you want to pick up the points when the team is below par.

Endo did well too, and helped us to shore it up. His tackle/block right near the end was the action of a man who simply refused to lose his 1v1 duel. Good to see.

Darwin Nunez? I am not going to pile in on him. The whole team was crap during the time Nunez was on the pitch. He had nothing to work with, as collectively the team retreated, missed passes, and all the rest of it. I would imagine Slot will take the dough in summer and reinvest, as he shapes his side for next season. Nunez probably won’t be the only one. In the meantime, we were right to keep hold of him. It’s a long season and we don’t want to be short.

Three points. And well done to the crowd, too, as they got behind the team, started chant after chant and supported them in getting over the line.

On to Villa. We will have to be better, and I think we will be.

Oddest thing was the first was one of our better performances.

I switched from the Smiths to New Order on my playlist so perhaps that did it.

No it isn’t. It’s one thing to change tempo during a half which is what we have done and another thing to completely shut up shop and show no ambition to get forward whatsoever.
The stats for the 2nd half are mind-blowing, if that’s us playing our normal game then God help us.

Just because we didnt have a shot doesn’t mean we shut up shop. We have a goal chalked off for offside, the Jota penalty incident is a very good chance and we are caught offside 5 times thats not shutting up shop.

Look at the different headlines.

Wolves did come at us in the 2nd half, got a good goal and had good plays but ultimately, this is how Champions are, even when not at best, we grind out the 3 points. Onto Villa.

8 wins will do it. Arsenal will slip up.

The next 3 fixtures are already tricky by itself which will be compounded by Slot and his deputy missing 2 of them…The second half performance cannot be repeated again…A better team would have slaughtered us…

No, they won’t.
According to Arsetita’s quote of no team in Premier League history has won all their games, his unspoken (deluded) exception is Arsenal will.

Just seen the second half, and really do not understand why Endo is not used more.
Only on for about a half an hour or so but was instrumental in shutting it down, and obviously making things hard for Wolves.
He is certainly not shy about putting himself about.
Hope Slot is seeing this lad differently, now!

2nd half our midfield fell apart 15 minutes in. Chasing shadows and incapable if controling the ball, on the rare occasion they managed a controle passing it straight to the opposition didn’t help particularly as they could win the ball back.
It was a very worrying time being dominated like that in a 2nd half again.
