Yes, Virgil is the issue!
Unconvincing showing again and considering the level of the teams we’ve been playing, rather alarming. There were some good individual performances, most notably Wirtz and Ekitike, but team-wise it wasn’t good enough.
The first half was decent, nothing spectacular but solid enough. The second was an illustration of everything that has been going wrong against one of the worst teams to have appeared in the PL. Another goal from a set piece, another retreat and loss of control, another opponent looking fitter as the minutes went by.
The 3 points are welcome, but this wasn’t a performance that bodes well for the future.
If I was a coach aetting up against us, I wouldn’t play deep I would actually press us, when the opposition teams do we just result to hitting long hopeful balls and conceeding possession and half the time it doesn’t have to be a concerted press as was seen by Wolves in the 2nd half.
Yet if Wolves had equalised any ‘normal’ person would say it was deserved. We were fucking lucky!
That header they missed was the big moment. No qualms from me, the performance level must improve.
We may have found a little something with packing another midfielder in there the last few games, but with Szobo suspended today we lost some of the solidity we were finding?
Szobo was a massive miss in the 2nd half
Love checking when we win, 1 post from almighty reds in here and hes gone offline , sure if we had lost it would be 400 posts going well into the early hours …
In the champions league places after being shite for 3 months. How is that glass filled??
Has anyone mentioned that Bradley was brilliant when he came on, or left to his countryman again?
We just need to be 3-0 up at half time against Leeds on Thurs. Then after the half time talk when we forget how to play and they inevitably score it shouldn’t be as nervy.
Is there anyone in the squad that can tackle. Opposition teams just waltz from in their own halves right into our last third with no decent challenge to be seen. Second half today one of their team got the ball by the dugouts and we had three players fairly tight to him, he just went past them like they weren’t there. First half because they were content to get all eleven players behind the ball we looked quite comfortable but when they came out second half with nothing to lose they attacked us and we went to pieces. Surely we can’t be happy to be clinging on against a team that have just two points with half of the season gone and at Anfield.
everyone gets a gift!!!
Decent first half, Wirtz a joy to watch.
Slot needs to sort these set pieces out, there’s no good reason for us to be this poor.
More pragmatism, three more points. All that matters right now.
Good to have Frimpong back, good to see Wirtz getting some reward for sticking at it through a tough spell for him.
Is a bit concerning seeing some of them start to look tired this early in the season. Konate also one booking away from a ban with no other centre halves available is a fun tightrope next game. And we still can’t defend set pieces. Another second ball where our lads were nowhere to be seen.
However, all this nonsense about Slot not having a clue is just rubbish. Bloke has won league titles in two countries, neither time as favourite going into the season. Something isn’t clicking but you’re an idiot if you think this is what he’s asking them to do.
But points are points and we weren’t getting those a month ago. Frimpong, Gakpo and Bradley back. Szobo back next game too plus one closer to Salah returning. And the transfer window to open before our next game. Understand some of the complaints but it’s looking better than it did a few weeks ago.
Why don’t you lot just ignore him if he upsets you that much?
This is every bit as tiresome to be honest. The constant sniping at each other on here is really, really boring.
The thing is it’s got nothing to do with tackling!
We just leave all the space to the opposition.
You don’t really have to ignore…just don’t engage…no biters…no need to carry on…
First half we were all over them. 2nd half they were all over us. Against one of the worst teams in premiership this is not good enough.
We deserved our luck though…
Overall Wolves only created 1 big chance, the header, while Bradley prevented the second.
We could’ve benefited with fresh legs in MF. And Chiesa offering something close to substance…
There isn’t much good to say about the second half. Alisson made a great save that unfortunately went to an opponent rather than a teammate. They didn’t concede a second. Other than that, the issues that have plagued us persist. I don’t understand why we don’t assert ourselves in these moments. We invite pressure rather than attacking the ball. We invite pressure and don’t even counter effectively to punish them.
But that’s all been discussed already. I’ll just say that the first half looked so much like what I hoped this team would be at the beginning of the year. Wirtz terrorizing defenders. Kerkez and Frimpong bombing up on the flanks to cause the defense to lose shape and flail. That Wirtz-Kerkez combo was especially fun to watch.
You have to temper it all by highlighting that these Wolves are possibly the worst team to ever grace the Premier League (though I will say that the points don’t reflect everything - they are not a rollover; they’re just not good and I’ve seen worse). But it’s good to highlight the positives, too.
