The first half was good created chances and got two at the perfect time, not sure why Slot can’t find some of that boring stuff he did so well when he came in, It was certainly not a Klopp trait he carried on, it was certainly a change but it’s disappeared somewhere.

As for gassed players I will give him some slack on that, all things considered.

Anyhow 3 points.

The 3 points are the most important at this moment. Wirtz is starting to adapt to the physicality of English football and in my opinion was today’s MoM. Ekitike is a fantastic footballer and I am still asking myself who decided to spend 125 mln. pounds on Isak, while at the same time the club did not sign a winger and a central defender. And there is not enough depth.

Good game for VvD, Kerkez, Frimpong /great assist/. It is strange that most of the time the players chose to attack much more through our left side, while Frimpong’s speed was always a problem for Wolves. The three in midfield were very good for 45 minutes and disappeared during the 2nd half. Bradley did very well, saved the point with his tackle and looked solid.

And the negatives are that Woves totally outplayed us in the 2nd half. There was zero control of this game once more. Leading 2-0 and then totally gifting the flow of the game to the opponent /Bournemouth, Newcastle, Atletico Madrid, Everton, Leeds, Spurs, Wolves/. Back to Rodgers’s era of soft football. And another goal from a set piece, and still somehow Alisson saved from close range, but Wolves player was left alone to finish it from their second attempt. K onate is shocking, once again at fault for their goal, their forward totally destroyed him, good luck with this style at Real Madrid. Chiesa did not show enough creativity, he has to use his chances in a much better way.

Slot probably needs to call Heitinga. Maybe I am wrong, but still have the feeling that it was a huge step back from Hetinga to van Bronckhorst. The latter had a promising start fo his career bringing the title to Feyenoord after long years, but later turned into a disaster, his teams famous for being soft and conceding too many goals. Awful at Rangers /we scored 7 at their place/, sacked at Besiktas after shocking displays and the fans turned against him.

Finally a lot of players looked tired, while most of them had a solid summer break, especially compared with Chelsea and City. Slot must learn how to rotate his squad and to trust 20 players, not 13 or 14. Hopefully we will see Robbo playing next game and Rio must also start to get more minutes.

Positives from the game. Kerkez, Wirtz and Ekitike all had good games…………Oh yeh, Bradley didn’t get a yellow card!

My sense is that it comes from the uncertainty of not being able to find the balance between sitting back a bit and building on the momentum from the 1hf.

And in the end we’re neither doing one nor the other.

Fourth at the end of the year. I’ll take that. Christ knows what we could achieve if it all came together. Keep the faith.

It’s hard to fathom how we’re 4th after the poor season we’ve had so far, but there we are.

Stopping the game for head knocks is really starting to piss me off. Players taking advantage of it now. Was particularly frustrating when Ekitike went down after defending a corner midway through 2nd half when he was hardly touched and we potentially had a breakaway. At least be smart about it if you’re going to milk it.

The league is shit this year. Arsenal, if they cling on, will be very poor champions. No team seems well put together or competent. Every two months the teams that look good change. Bournemouth are now in free fall whereas Villa who didn’t even score for something like 6/7 games are now looking like title challengers.
In a different year with our form we’d be aiming for a top 4 finish but given the inconsistent shit show that every team is (apart from Wolves and West Ham who are consistently just shit) it’s really not inconceivable that we drag ourselves back into the race despite not looking great ourselves.

It’s almost as if they enjoy it.

Pleased overall but how they fuck we allow a team like Wolves to camp in our half at Anfield is genuinely head scratching. And Konate doing his ‘get behind us’ routine to the crowd when he’s still phoning it in had me shouting at the telly.

Excellent, three points and three wins on the trot in the league. I’ll take that! :+1:

At this moment of the season, form flies out of the window. All that counts is the three points, no matter how you get them. Small teams, big teams, all games are hard.

Our first half was genuinely excellent. We couldn’t wish for more than that, except maybe one more goal. Ekitike’s fine shot on the post deserved a goal for instance. It was the basis on which our win was built.

After the break, tiredness seemed to creep in, and Wolves, to their credit, showed that they can play a bit of football too. Still, their goal came out of nowhere. A corner, not enough concentration, and there it is. But it gave them confidence, and our lads lost their way. During ten-fifteen minutes, they panicked I think. Then, things went better again and we created chances. Wirtz could and maybe should have scored his second goal. Ekitike fluffed one, Macca too. With the score still 2-1, Wolves tried to come back towards the end. Some of our lads seemed gassed, but we still held firm.

Three deserved points, mission accomplished. The end. :+1:

On to the next game, which is Leeds at home I think. Looking forward to that one.

What does this mean? Sounds like this is the most difficult part of the season. We had three games in the last two weeks. Not even played half of the games yet.

We’re about to enter the FA Cup. Likely to play the CL playoff round. Most opponents will be stronger than what we had today. Basically zero midweeks off. More injuries. International breaks.

At no point this season did it feel like Slot is interested in making the most of his squad/bench options.

Couldn’t care less. I don’t think the domestic cups are any of our business this season. I wouldn’t shed any tears about going out early.

Yeah I wrote a less detailed version in the PL thread.

No one’s setting it alight, Arsenal have a set up that goes unpunished and City are City. Effectively spells of a game will win it for you.

Everton and Newcastle spring to mind at 2-0, nothing was happening and then some kind of brain fart and it’s sixes and sevens but all teams seem to be playing in spells. You could say the same for Leeds.

Jep - thats the small club mentality which is slowly (actually not so slow) creeping in.

That’s the domestic cups - fine.

What about the CL? It used to be ‘over two legs we‘re almost unbeatable’. At this point anyone will be favorites against us over two legs.

Guess Arne will be happy if we crash out in the playoff or Round of 16. More time to prepare his 14 players for the PL matches.

Arne Slot has yet to throw any CL game…

I personally want us to go for the FA Cup. What baffled me more was the fact that the Soton team was better than the Palace team in the cup. Where the Soton team was the type Klopp would play in those rounds, he just seemed to progress.

Small club mentality😂 give it a rest.

We are in no state to juggle a run in the FA Cup alongside the league campaign and the Champions League. As you have correctly identified, we are in the midst of a mini injury crisis and the available players look tired. It’s nothing to do with mentality. It’s everything to do with thinking practically about how many fronts we can realistically fight on.

Every season, we have the same thing. True, the festive period has been kind with us in terms of scheduling, but the games still need to be won.

So, aren’t you happy to have nine points from nine over the last few games? I’m over the moon to be honest. Hopefully the lads can take their winning streak further and beat Leeds too.

What comes after that , nobody knows. But for the time being, despite of a bit of an injury jinx, the lads are slowly finding back their feet, getting the results, and I for one am very glad about that.
