Post match: Liverpool v Wolves (FAC 7/1/23 8pm)

The two worst teams in the EPL at the moment.

Our evolution into a possession based style of play has been in place for while though but I agree we are too passive when we lose the ball and being honest our ability when in possession is not where I would like it to be.

I do feel we need to change something though. What we are doing is clearly not working but Klopp clearly believes in it or at least feels itā€™s our strongest option. Part of me wants to see 4,2,3,1 but we have tried it in places already as with 4,4,2.

The extent of the collapse is the most startling thing to me.

Well I wouldnā€™t go that far Phil, West Ham and Southampton fans would argue that but we arenā€™t far behind.

So the jury is out after 80 minutes?
And the transfer period jury is out on the 8th of January too?
And the two issues (winger and midfield) are necessarily so related and co-dependant that itā€™s either/or?

Again, that IS the rule, except it is better stated as being ā€œofā€ the ball rather than ā€œatā€ the ball. The issue is what constitutes a deliberate play, and as of this year the guidelines has been revised to mean that it shouldnā€™t include defenders simply trying to defend. It is supposed to be limited to constructive bits of playā€¦actually passing the ball to an opponent. Like Ali did with Guedes

In the Newcastle game, one in which there was no VAR, Guimares kncoed in a rebound after a keeper made a save but was as clearly offside from the initial shot as you could ever see. The officials missed it and allowed the goal. Apparently the BBC coverage repeatedly explained it away by the goalieā€™s save playing him on, which is absolutely not the rule. The officials just utterly fucked it up. Long and short - the commentators rarely have any idea what they are talking about.

Shortly after Mo signed, back when we still had Phil and Ox was fit and valuable in one of the attacking roles, we flitted back and forth between the 4-3-3 and Kloppā€™s previously favoured 4-2-3-1 from Dortmund. We eventually dropped the latter, but not due to the midfield as is commonly understood. Straight out of Kloppā€™s mouth, he felt the way the front 3 played meant they were better at pressing from a front 3 than a front 4 and with the latter we ended up being too easy to play through. Mo is the only player left from that side and doesnt really play the same way anymore. I am conscious of not making a change that makes it harder to ultimately play the football we want, but something has to change. Iā€™d be inclined to play a double divot with 4 ahead of them and pull it 20 yards further back. Just get behind the ball and press only when they get to the center circle. It gives us less ground to cover and possibly more space for Mo and Darwin to run into.

To be fair, I said that was my understanding, and I said you posted a more recent interpretation.

Look at my name, think what the nationality of Gakpo is, do you really think I have not seen him for a lot more than 80 minutes?

Have a good day ā€¦

:joy:

Love it how you think only Holland has internet.

If I wanted, I could watch a third division reserve game from Borneo these days.

Or maybe you just donā€™t know the rules well enough?

That said, it seems neither do most English referees.

But have you seen 10 full matches with Gakpo in it ā€¦. :scream::joy:

From the beginning people here started to talk about him I said I did not wanted him because he mostly does not show up in big games, yesterday we played the second choice of Wolves ā€¦

I hope he proves me wrong but Iā€™m not holding my breathā€¦

Or maybe most voters in the poll are reactionary and overreacting to what happened.

Yeah maybe, would help if they didnā€™t go around changing the rules every 5 minutes, adding all these little hidden rules behind other rules.

& even if this were true, thereā€™s a reason why the majority of football fans want VAR out the game (go have a look at the recent polls)ā€¦and why more or less every poster on here argue with each other over refereeing/VAR issuesā€¦far from a ā€œmeā€ problem wouldnā€™t you think?

But as long as the likes of you and Mascot know the rules inside out and can add clarity to us all, weā€™re good.

No, not even one.
But I could have if Iā€™d chosen to

I thought I knew the offside rule, but on the basis of last night, Iā€™m lost. Donā€™t look at me for help.

Donā€™t worry, never have and donā€™t plan on starting.

Because no one really understands what VAR does. They expect an automated machine that magically gets everything correct, when itā€™s still the same old referees behind it.

You must have me confused with @Limiescouse. I have repeatedly stated that I donā€™t know the rules very well.

You would hope that trained referees, with numerous slow mos, precise angle technology, different camera angles and even the god dam rule book alongside them if necessary would get things right, but alas it seems to only highlight their flaws and flaws in the rules of the game.

Iā€™m not against VAR but itā€™s an absolute mess of a process and used so poorly.

We take a trip to the deepest darkestā€™s depths of deception and we NEVER come back!

Interesting point to note is that if VAR isnā€™t used itā€™s still 2-2.

Unlike the SW game in my view which would have been 2-0.

The problem is a lot of fans, too many, use their own rules in judging whether a ref got it right, and even if they know and apply the right rule cannot tell the difference between simply disagreeing with the ref over a subjective decision and the ref being objectively wrong. The general level of discourse about refereeing decisions is pathetic.
