Post match: Liverpool v Wolves (FAC 7/1/23 8pm)

for me Mos goal was offside. He was offside when the ball was played in. So he is offside. simple. The defender goes for ball because he dont know Salah is offside but it shouldnt matter cos Mo is offside and has been for about 5 seconds.

re the wolves 3rd goal that was chalked off. we get a break there becuase there is no camera. it went againt us v Arsenal as Sakho was offside but the var camera couldnt pick it up.

I was watching that game and saw that Saka was offside in real time, so for them to say that the VAR camera couldn’t pick it up still rankles.

How does the linesman judge that from his position, keep it what it is no need to change in regards to the position of the player. Remember the rules are reflected through the entirety of football nit everyone has VAR !!!

By looking at the players’ feet. It’s no different to applying the current offside rules at all levels of the game- you’re merely using a different part of the players’ bodies as your reference point.

Regarding our midfield, Thiago had a poor game according to a lot of you but take the quote from Jurgen
into perspective
The three starting midfielders won seven tackles between them, Thiago accounted for six, Fabinho one and Jordan zero.

If our other 2 had won the same amount of tackles as Thiago we would be in a far better place

Bloody hell.

Jan 14: Brighton
Jan 18: Wolves

Not that we were doing well with less congested schedule.

Says a lot to me when he is supposed to be our ball playing midfielder, but puts more tackles in than our defensive midfielder

The full gist of what Jurgen was highlighting is that we aren’t winning our challenges which is causing major issues for our shape

I saw a comment last night which said that as the pass wasn’t going towards Mo (I think he said it was heading towards Nunez on the far side) then the defenders intervention played Mo onside.

The rule is that it is still offside if the defender had tried to save the ball from going to an offside player but not if they just fucked it up.

I can’t find a working version of the footage so I can’t confirm that.

Sign him already!

Bingo!

The sad part is that he told Dutch TV he thought he played rather well …

Almost every match our midfield is overrun we buy a so so winger in Gakpo but leave the midfield problems unattended …

to be fair we need a winger , but we should have a midfielder at the beginning of the season and one in January but we opted for Arthur who will be another ben davies either injured or not making the team when fit .

You do know Bellingham is joining in the summer :sunny:.
Seriously though I would recall Morton.

I agree about the midfielder, not about the winger. Ox, Carvalho and Jones can play there. I have seen Gakpo play more than once like this especially in matches were the stakes were high.

Phlegmatic, playing the ball sideways or backwards and being invisible most of the time, we could have spend that £37m much better …

Assuming we buy bellingham we still need another 4 midfielders ( kieta ox will leave or be injured) thiago on mobility scooter passing sideways , fab at best a sub , henderson already past his best , elliot is a light weight and in general ineffective. So Bellingham will not be coming to this mess and we all know that if we get him there will be no money for anything else unless some eccentric billionaire or an oil rich state buys FSG out

Only if we are sold before the summer

Serious question. Where do we go from here? This has all the feelings of a collapse that’s about to happen.

Confidence looks shot on top of all the disjointed mess and lack of a functioning midfield. Too many stupid errors too.

Praying that Brighton does not have a running midfield or playing with 2 defensive/holding midfielders something Elliott would benefit from.

My feeling is that we are a bit confused. We used to rely on the front 3 to create and score - something along the lines of midfield (and the front three) makes sure the opposition does not keep the ball and once its taken off them and before they reorganize, the front three deliver. Teams have adapted to this largely. We are now in a situation where we are not about the press and are relying on TAA to make a killer pass. It feels as though we want to evolve, in the direction of controlling the game through possession but are stuck with TAA as an outlet for the killer pass. It feels contrived and as a team we have to go through a lot of gymnastics to facilitate that. Not to mention other teams are not blind to it.

I guess this goes against the grain somewhat but I would be in favour of a 442 and having more control and creativity in the middle (obviously we don’t have the players yet). I think any of our forwards (MS, DN, CG) can play as a front 2 and Jota and Diaz can fit into the middle or substitute for one of the front two…
